According to internal accounts from Google, half of all the engineering work on Google's new Gemini AI goes into making sure it is sufficiently woke.
Google HR has ordered engineers to quit using phrases like “build ninja” (cultural appropriation), “nuke the old cache” (military metaphor), “sanity check” (disparages mental illness), or “dummy variable” (disparages disabilities). The "Greyglers," an affinity group for older Googlers, is being renamed because associating age with gray hair is offensive.
Promotion decisions are openly made based on race rather than ability.
Company leadership has become such a mess that the company's only unifying force is "a powerful, sprawling HR bureaucracy ... totally obsessed with left-wing political dogma."
Worth reading.

Good morning frens,
For a long time, Jeff.pro has been helping educate Americans with simple courses on our Learning Management System … (LMS).
One of the features on the LMS software is for people who are enrolled in the same course to send each other messages. This was left enabled because sometimes there would be discussions about Linux, class members would help each other out, etc.
Unfortunately some people started “broadcasting” their tech support questions to the entire enrolled class, causing everyone in the class to receive an email notifying them that they had a message on the LMS, then they’d log-in, and see it was someone else’s question directed at Jeff.pro staff…not them..a distraction and resulting in the time lost to go check a message and see it had nothing to do with you.
Now, be aware no one’s email address was available through this process. If you got one of these notifications, it was because someone sent a message to “all” through the LMS and it was relayed to you.
After realizing this was annoying people…we disabled the LMS messaging feature today, once and for all. Probably the right thing to do to avoid any further distractions of message notifications having nothing to do with you. So, if anyone needs a support question answered, just email us at support@jeff.pro!
Thanks frens and sorry for any confusion.

London-based internet monitoring firm Netblocks said the problems appeared to be “related to login sessions in multiple countries.” But the firm, which advocates for internet freedom, said there was no sign of “country-level internet disruptions or filtering,” which are typically imposed by governments.
Cybersecurity expert Matthew Green said the outage appears to go beyond Meta.
“There are a number of services having trouble with at least parts of their systems, particularly the ability to log into websites,” said Green, an associate professor of computer science and member of the Johns Hopkins University Information Security Institute. “This may indicate a common cause, like a failure at a major cloud services provider. At the moment nobody knows exactly what’s happening.”
Nexstar reached out to Meta for comment on the outage’s cause, but hadn’t heard back. This story will be updated as we learn more.

Happy 43rd year anniversary (today!) from the first release of the Timex Sinclair ZX81 on March 5, 1981.
It was designed to be a low-cost introduction to home computing for the general public. A huge success, more than 1.5 million units were sold.
It had 1 KB of on-board memory that could be expanded externally to 16 KB 🤣

While we are bragging on printers, I will say my Brother MFC-J805DW works really well. I don't recall any issues getting it set up. But I have never connected it to wifi, I just plug it in with a cable. I had an Epson when I first started moving to Linux; I had to look around a bit to find the correct driver but it worked fine once I found it.

SCOOP: Microsoft is offering something it calls "operator call protection." What is that? In the simplest terms, Microsoft is asking to listen in on all of your phone calls, live, so they can send them to an AI for "analysis."
Through its Azure cloud computing platform, Microsoft's stated purpose is to prevent fraud and scam calls — a worthy goal, but why should the same industry training machines to think the Founding Fathers were black be trusted with listening to ALL of your phone calls?
Microsoft promises that the data will be destroyed and that the service won't be politically biased, but to put it bluntly, why should we believe this? What keeps them from quietly changing the rules later, when nobody is paying attention? Or colluding with the intelligence community? But more importantly, why should we ever let phone companies turn over our private conversations to the people who own ChatGPT?
Imagine this: You receive a call from a group trying to raise money or awareness about some cause. Then, one of their words trips a switch over at Microsoft. Maybe it's "Covid." Maybe it's "election fraud," or "January 6," or "Joe Biden." And suddenly, while you're still on the call, you get a text message from your phone provider: "Hang up, this is a fraudulent call."
You think a system like this won't be abused?
Microsoft needs to scuttle this, immediately, and if they don't, Republicans in Congress should make it clear they will make them scuttle it.
