Linux is traditionally about FOSS. But I would submit that the reason windows and apple have been successful in growth in the pop culture is due to their for profit models. Money motivates.
Gaming is a GREAT example. Processing power has moved forward largely because of the need in the gaming industry. Profits move forward the development of faster and faster processing to facilitate high resolution 3D graphics at 60 frames per second.
In order to move Linux forward there is enthusiasm currently. It's a need because we know that the alternative is taking advantage of us.
But we must recognize the profit, model and it's success in moving things forward. Capitalism works. We need to find a way to implement free market capitalism to help grow the Linux systems.

BE SURE TO ALWAYS KEEP BACKUPS OF YOUR DATA, WHETHER YOU SWITCH TO LINUX OR NOT!! **It is absolutely essential to always protect your data, especially before moving to a new operating system, which you need to do carefully, one step at a time!!

Thank you. I didn’t think it would. I am going to use an older laptop instead. My concern is preserving the windows files and programs that are on it. Not sure a full backup would work.
Switching to Linux I wanted to do many years ago. (I have always hated Windows, lol)

I'm enjoying it as well. I'm still dual booting with Windows to play certain games that I couldn't get to work on Linux. Rockstar Games games. Also, raspberry Pi's are pretty awesome.

Jeff said I'm on the same level as a doctor or a lawyer in the call tonight. lol. Never thought about it that way. Just figured I was a nerd that had some strange fascination with command-line stuff and doing things that go against the grain of society.

I'm so inspired and ready to put in the effort to be independent. I successfully created my Ubuntu boot USB drive and plugged it into an old 2015 laptop. I clicked on 'Try' and got in! Very exciting. Then, a disappointment. Apparently my Dell has a Broadcom network adapter and my wifi was not recognized - bummer. I plugged in an ethernet cable and watched a video on Youtube, and checked my email. Awesome! Tomorrow I might try Mint to see if the wifi shows up, unless someone here has a better suggestion??? THANK YOU SO MUCH JEFFREY!

Quick tip for NYS residents. LinkedIn learning fka Lynda.com is available for free to members of the NY Public Library. There are a lot of tutorials and I believe certificate options. I've used this resource for several years to udate autocad and coding skills to name a few.

Pretty solid call tonight, Jeffrey. Thank you for bringing together this group of enthusiastic people with a common interest, in a rather safe environment, keeping focus of a goal, with standards I appreciate, individuals input that leads to new ideas with similar principals. As we continue, this will always be remembered as a place where growth can be seen and influence with encouragement together bring out the better side of us all. Bless your night.

When you surrender your life to God fears grip over you begins to fade.
When you die to your own will you can be at peace.
Even if you take a beating in this life you can never truly lose. With faith you are always in a win win situation because there is nothing that God cannot turn around for good.

Barbara, I thought my Macbook Air had died too - I had cleared it off, erased and tried to install but wasn't able to reinstall the OS, even from a USB. I thought the hard drive was corrupted. So inspired by Jeffrey's channel I thought I would give Linux a go - Ubuntu installed easily. I like the way each feature is explained complete with a definition. If I had to do it again I would use an ethernet connection, as I next have to install drivers in order to obatain a wifi connection. I used this simple step by step tutorial: I'm unable to post a link here, but search for Ubunto (dot) com tutorial 'create a bootable usb for mac os'
