👍 I Agree with you 100%. Linux is Wonderful. Don't forget you can Install Virtual Machine and load your Version of Windows and needed Windows Applications and run them Inside Linux. Works Great for the few Applications that do not have Linux Support.

If you're asking about Mint vs Ubuntu, I suggest Mint. It's based on Ubuntu so packages for Ubuntu will work. There are two graphical "flavors" for Mint, Cinnamon and Mate. Cinnamon is the most Windows-like. And unless your hardware is very old, use the 64-bit version.

You don't have to give it up. Get a second cheap device, install free linux on it and start learning. Best of both worlds.

Linux can be themed to look just like Mac OS. I have an old, slow Macbook Pro, wiped it and installed Ubuntu then set up the desktop to look like the Mac. People see my screen and think I'm a Mac user, but it's all Ubuntu, baby!

As with all things new, be sure to research things you are uncertain about before doing it. Read up on Linux, and ask questions here, or in other linux community forums. I've been a Linux user since 2000 (21 years) and still haven't learned everything, but that's the beauty of it all. Take your time, easy does it - and enjoy it.

Same been a user since 1994 because I wanted the C compiler. SCO was charging $800 for a computer at that time. Linux was an awesome alternative. Been using it for business purposes since 1998. It's almost indestructible 😀.

I‘m running Ubuntu Mate on an 2009 MacBookPro. Works flawless.
Just make sure you’re connected via Ethernet during install to get the lastetest updates during install. Otherwise you’ll have no WiFi after install.

Thank you! I know enough of linux to use it but install will be an experiment for me. Fortunately I still have an old Toshiba laptop I can futz around with...will have to learn more b4 tackling the macbook...

If you want to understand the CHIP shortage please share & read this article! Important to understand.

The great computer chip shortage of 2021 will likely get worse before it gets better. This conclusion was reached following brief study and anecdotal review.

Moreover, while COVID lockdowns may have initially triggered the shortage, several decades of shortsighted decisions and simmering geopolitical tensions make it much more than a matter of fixing a few broken links in the supply chain.

The world’s top two leading chip companies are Taiwan’s TSMC and South Korea’s Samsung Electronics. These two Asian firms, combined, control more than 70 percent of the semiconductor manufacturing market.

The U.S., which was once a leader, lags behind in chip manufacturing after major and shortsighted shifts in the business models in the semiconductor industry over the last 15 years. But this could change…

This is Negative Nate. He knows a lot about computers. But instead of helping Patriots get away from the "big tech" overlords, he uses his knowledge of computers to write complicated things that confuse and distract Patriots in our new technology community. He knows enough to know that learning about Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and the Linux Operating System empowers Patriots, but he hates our country, and he hates you. We don't know where Negative Nate comes from, bit we suspect it might be an ANTIFA camp in Portland. Negative Nate is not your friend. Watch out for, and don't be, a "Negative Nate!"
