Exactly one year ago, the Jeff.pro Telegram channel officially launched on the premise that it was important for “We the People” to start unplugging from big tech in a important way that was not being widely discussed — at the Operating System level, where the most crucial software that runs everything on our computers resides.

For most Americans (and people internationally, for that matter), this means they are running the Bill Gates designed, Microsoft Windows O.S. software at the core of their laptops, their computers.

The Operating System software can see and keep a record of every single thing we do on our computer. Forget about “Antivirus” software and so forth…your O.S. can see and make a record of absolutley everything: all of your files, your passwords, keys pressed, screenshots, everything you view, websites you visit, etc.

Some might say “it doesn’t matter.” We are of the mindset that our privacy, security and sovereignty over our own personal information and data is sacred and getting more valuable all the time. When we started, many were not even aware that their Microsoft Windows Operating System was leaking their personal data all over the internet—but it is, and Windows 11 is the worst offender yet.

Jeff is a life-long technologist as are the admins of this channel. As much as we love technology, we do not blindly endorse it. We are family oriented Christian Americans who believe technology should be used for practical purposes to make our real lives better, to work for the people, not against the people.

We are not fans of the “metaverse,” “digital I.D’s”, and especially not “big tech.”

And so we set out on a journey to educate our fellow Americans about a better way to do computing — with the robust Free and Open Source software (FOSS) libraries that have been evolving for the past thirty years, and the Linux computer Operating System, a complete replacement for Microsoft Windows on your computer.

About a year after we started teaching our fellow Americans about Linux, we ran a poll to ask everyone what they thought about it…a simple question. Now that you have some experience using Linux, what do you think? Is it the real deal or not? Many of you already saw the results of this poll, but we will re-post it today.

In the month of July 2022 the Jeff.pro channel reached an important milestone for us as more than 1,000 learners total had enrolled in our Linux for Beginners weekly course throughout the year.

Maybe not a huge number by ‘big tech’ standards but for freedom minded citizens it is significant, it is the start of something—importantly those people will have good experiences and spread the word about non-big-tech alternatives to friends and family.

On average, it seems to take people two to three months (close to what we originally anticipated) to learn the basics of Linux, get rid of Microsoft Windows and switch their laptop over to Free and Open Source Software, to be rid of ‘big tech’ influence over their computers once and for all.

There were very few complaints in our first year of teaching people how to do this. Our class groups were full up to the number of licensed seats we had available, all year. There are a handful of people left over who are bent out of shape because we kicked them out of our chat room for one reason or another. In all there are a ton more people who feel they learned something useful, than not. Truly.

This is our way forward with technology built by “we the people,” not big corporations.

Our MVP for the first year of the Jeff.pro channel on Telegram was our channel admin Vasileios Kontodimas.

Vasileios is an amazing, talented computer whiz with more than twenty five years experience on the Linux Operating System.

Throughout the year, he answered literally thousands of tech support messages and tickets, while helping to educate everyone on our weekend classes. Vasileios is truly a gentleman, a scholar, and a Patriot!

We called it: Shortly after the Jeff.pro channel launched, on October 3, 2021 Jeffrey Peterson said Mark Zuckerberg and ‘meta/Facebook’ would experience their worst year of operations since launching twelve years prior. (link: https://t.me/jeffrey_peterson/2146)

The next day, October 4, 2021 at 15:39 UTC Facebook experienced its worst tech outage in history and the stock plunged. At the time it was the biggest drop in Facebook stock on record. (link: https://techcrunch.com/2021/10/04/facebook-stock-falls-as-global-outage-continues/)

The October 4 drop in Facebook share price was exceeded only by its 26% drop on Friday Sep. 9th, 2022, when news agencies reported Mark Zuckerberg had been seen “crying” on a company conference call, (attributing it to a ‘scratched eye’), at the close of business before the one-year anniversary of this channel. I am a total newbie to Linux and Python. I am so glad I have come across Jeff Peterson, thanks to Code Monkey. I joined the Linux beginners class at the end of 2021, and now Python.
