The NeXT computer was launched in October 1988, initially developed for the higher education market. It had a 25 Mhz Motorola 68030 CPU. It ran the "NeXTSTEP" operating system, based on BSD Unix.

Fun fact: a NeXT computer was used by Tim Berners-Lee in 1991 as the first web server on the current version of the World Wide Web.
