Quick story if anyone needs more convincing that Windows STINKS. 😑 I'm forced to use Windows for my job. I'm trying to learn about Macros and VBA so that I can edit several hundred Word documents with content controls. Anyway, I posted a question on a Microsoft forum yesterday, and it reminded me how WONDERFUL, AWESOME, HELPFUL, AND KIND the people are HERE. The response I got was, and I quote, "This is not a free macro-writing service." πŸ˜’ I actually got scolded for asking a question. Grrrrrr. 😀 So once again, I'm very grateful for this channel and the climate of learning and helping that has been fostered and diligently protected here. πŸ₯°

Many are surprised when they discover that the Linux Operating System can easily be configured with the same look and feel as the "big tech" O.S.'s they were used to, but without any of the "big tech" spying and abuse at the system level when you use Linux.

In this video, see just how good your new GNU/Linux desktop can be!

WooHoo!!! MX-Linux live session is running on 20+ year old ThinkPad, gave up on USB boot option and wrote a DVD iso image, but clearly can see modern Linux on very old laptop.

I left Mozilla Firefox browser today.
I will not use a browser that is collaborating with Meta (FB). I downloaded and installed the Brave browser using sudo commands in the Linux Mint Terminal. Following the steps on the Brave browser download page was easy peasy!

I loaded Brave, but it seems like it’s using Firefox. Not sure what I did wrong, or still need to do.

I have been very happy with Libre Wolf and have been using that with Duck Duck Go instead of Firefox...

Brave runs great on Linux btw. Yes, change your default browser in your settings. Firefox is fraud - sorry to say. I hope Brave hangs in there.

Linux has a robust GUI, every bit as powerful as Windows and MacOS. Depending on your Distro, you can install software from the desktop Software Center.

If you are one of the several hundred learners enrolled in our Linux for Beginners course, your invitations for tomorrow's Weekend Linux Workshop (to be held Sat. Feb. 19th @ 5:00pm EST) are being sent out to your email right now! (If you can't be there live, the wekeend workshops are always recorded so you can watch them later on the LMS!)

This week we will cover, as review for some of our experienced learners, and as a guide for those who are new: What are the main differences I will experience between the 'big tech' Operating System I used before, and my new Linux O.S.? We review Desktops, software installations, virus protection, firewalls and more!

If you can't make it, don't worry, the Workshop will be recorded (as always) and posted in our LMS system, for you to view with your login and password, any time you like!

We are interested to hear your thoughts about Apple AIr Pods.

Love them, hate them, use something similar or completely different?

These sure became popular.

iFixit Tech Toolkit

We think this tech toolkit is pretty cool & useful for taking apart laptops, phones, and other tech equipment.

They have other similarly useful things on their website. Nothing to do with us. We just point stuff out. ifixit.com

According to recent reports, the MeWe Social Network continues to grow.

Anyone here have thoughts or opinions about MeWe?

A lot of people were talking about them early last year. Since then, we heard they were censoring and deleting some accounts so, there are mixed reviews.

Ironically, the Google Pixels are some of the easiest cellphones to "de-Google," then reinstall with a "non-big tech" O.S., for those who are interested in doing that. And they are pretty cheap on the refurbished marketplaces. Makes a good backup, or primary phone.

Look for them on your favorite auction site (Ebay?) or backmarket.com. Maybe some of you know better places to find them.
