My experience with mint/cinnamon has been relatively easy on an old pentium pc, and i think a very important aspect if youβre just starting out is picking a commonly used version that has lots of help discussions/answers that apply.

I am in the same boat, this group is amazing and very helpful. I have also been very nervous about making the change but Iβm doing it slowly but surely. If it gets too much just step back for a minute and when ready just reach out and ask, the adminβs on here are fabulous at responding to any questions you might have. You can do this! Love this communityπ€

It is good to stay informed, this channel is the best I have found on the internet for that. Just this am I heard chatter that Firefox is Collaborating with Meta (Facebook) on targeting ads. So I just installed Brave Browser to My Mint Distro and put Firefox behind me..

Having suffered MS boot-up times approaching infinity, Iβm now on Zorin 16 OS with the CAD and vector art systems Iβve needed for a decade but wouldnβt purchase and Iβm digging into Python.
The entire evolution has been largely painless outside the Brother printer install that still doesnβt work. The best partβ¦ I am master of my own destiny, finally. Thatβs priceless.

Just finished switching over to Linux Mint Cinnamon on my main computer. Switched from Quicken to GnuCash for my personal accounting. Now have no Windows active on any of my three systems (desktop and two laptops). Next up is to replace my poor Galaxy S9+ phone with something deGoogled before it explodes from too many years of overcharging the battery.
Funny how much easier to switch than I expectedβand how little I miss Windows.

On this channel, we help you learn how to use Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and the GNU/Linux Operating System as a complete replacement to eliminate the spying and abuses of "big tech" O.S.'s like Microsoft Windows.
Linux is made available in numerous free "Distributions," or "Distros." One of the most popular websites in Linux World is Distro watch. At distrowatch.com Linux distributions are ranked by popularity, daily. They are provided along with breaking news about developments in the FOSS and Linux community.
Like many applications in the FOSS world, Distro watch is more practical than polished, but it is highly useful. For new and experienced Linux users, Distrowatch is a good site to bookmark and review often.

Linux is so amazing, it has reengaged my enthusiasm for learning a new system. And within a few months of reviewing and testing. Iβve upgraded an old windows 7 to Linux Mint, setup a nas server with remote virtual machines using VPN. And setup a custom image to install Linux to as many hard drives as I want, speeding up the setup time of a new machine, or restore to my own personal image.
It just keeps getting more amazing as I expand this knowledge to family and friends. And hope to one day help others that just need it done for them, setup and go.
I have not had a class with JP Technology, but I recommend it for beginners @Jeffrey_Peterson.

Quick story if anyone needs more convincing that Windows STINKS. π‘ I'm forced to use Windows for my job. I'm trying to learn about Macros and VBA so that I can edit several hundred Word documents with content controls. Anyway, I posted a question on a Microsoft forum yesterday, and it reminded me how WONDERFUL, AWESOME, HELPFUL, AND KIND the people are HERE. The response I got was, and I quote, "This is not a free macro-writing service." π I actually got scolded for asking a question. Grrrrrr. π€ So once again, I'm very grateful for this channel and the climate of learning and helping that has been fostered and diligently protected here. π₯°

Many are surprised when they discover that the Linux Operating System can easily be configured with the same look and feel as the "big tech" O.S.'s they were used to, but without any of the "big tech" spying and abuse at the system level when you use Linux.
