Unfortunately I'm forced to use Windows for college, but my personal machine is actually a Linux virtual machine within the windows laptop.
I run Oracle VM virtualbox to host the virtual machine. It's kind of nice because I can try many different flavors of Linux by just making a new virtual machine, I don't have to install it on a real computer to try it out, and it only takes about ten minutes to make a new one.

I'm ready to go Linux with my mid 2014 Macbook Pro. From what I've read, Ubuntu seems the way to go. My hesitation arises from the many pictures and important docs I have on this computer. I can save on external drive...but is there some kind of conversion process that I'll need to figure out? I don't want an OS that can't read my files. I'm not super tech savvy. Any advice is appreciated!

Starting in the 1980's, Richard Stallman (L) and then Linus Torvalds (R) created the GNU+Linux computer Operating System. Available in numerous distribution versions, called "Distros," GNU+Linux runs on hundreds of millions of computers worldwide, today.
In development for more than 30 years, GNU+Linux is "Free as in Freedom," returning Digital sovereignty back to the people, allowing you to operate your computer, your laptop, and in the future...your Mobile device, independent of 'big tech' OS's that lock you in and spy on you, like Microsoft Windows.
Stallman, for many years, has been viewed as the most recognizable "anti-Bill Gates" figure by the international technology community due to his stubborn, never-ending advocacy for Digital Freedom.

My dad was responsible for naming the mascot, TUX after Torvaldβs Unix. He swore by Linux then and swears by it now.

Friends, there is no other movement like ours in Freedom-loving, America-first Patriot circles. We are proving everything "they" believe about us is wrong. What we are doing truly has the power to change the course of technology development in our beautiful United States of America.
Maybe they just don't understand how much we love and insist on Freedom.

The worst possible turn of events for big tech is that Patriots wake up to the realities of technology corruption, reject the tyranny of Silicon Valley and connect with the Free Software Community. This goes much deeper than only discussing 'websites'.
Why? Because Free Software goes beyond "alternative platforms" and "alternative websites." It returns complete control of technology back to the people, it removes their ability to spy on, shut down, censor, or disable the apps we use, once and for all.
This is the message Richard Stallman has been promoting to the world for 25 years. We all have a choice -- either the software controls the people, or the people control the software. The implications of Free Software, "Free as in Freedom," are massive for the future of humanity.

Likewise. My little old Lenovo laptop is trucking along like a dream since I loaded up Mint and I am still doing everything I was doing with Windows. I am thrilled that this Telegram channel was started because it provided the impetus I needed to make the move over the Xmas holiday season.

Got Linux Mint up and running today (thank you Jeff and everyone!) Anybody using Citrix Receiver on Linux? On which browser? Not looking easy on Firefox to download certificates (which is hoped to resolve a "trust" issue). Thanks in advance!

This is great info. It may allow me to get rid of Windows on our machine completely. Wife has to use Citrix for work when she's at home. π€π€
He gave thirty years of his career for the good of humanity. While he constantly promoted "Free Software," people heard, "Free stuff." That was a big misunderstanding.
What he actually meant was "Free, as in Freedom." He foresaw big-tech tyranny years ago, and led thousands of programmers to develop a computer operating system, GNU+Linux, that was Free from built-in spying, tracking and abuses like MS Windows.
Dr. Richard Stallman joins the Jeff.pro channel for a exclusive live presentation about your Digital Freedom, tonight from 7:00pm - 9:00pm EST.
