In the face of ongoing antitrust investigations and at times damning press coverage concerning Facebook, Amazon and Google, the uptick in these companies' lobbying budget also seems logical. The increase in lobbying funds of a majority of GAFAM (G👀gle, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, and Microsoft) can also be explained by President Joe Biden's staff choices and the current political climate.

Our country has slowly slipped into a Big Tech oligarchy run by a powerful few vs We The People. It was subtle at first, but now it's blatantly obvious. We need to vote with our money, starving these criminals out. And by switching to a Linux based Mobile OS we will regain our Liberty and Fredom as Jeffrey P. has so wisely shared with us. We are holding the keys to the castle, ladies and gentlemen. Let's be Proactive and Act Now!

Everyday I read of another device happily disconnecting from big tech.
It is very refreshing to read about the numbers of owners who have learned how to install the various versions of Linux to allow them to put big tech behind them.

Unfortunately I'm forced to use Windows for college, but my personal machine is actually a Linux virtual machine within the windows laptop.

I run Oracle VM virtualbox to host the virtual machine. It's kind of nice because I can try many different flavors of Linux by just making a new virtual machine, I don't have to install it on a real computer to try it out, and it only takes about ten minutes to make a new one.

I'm ready to go Linux with my mid 2014 Macbook Pro. From what I've read, Ubuntu seems the way to go. My hesitation arises from the many pictures and important docs I have on this computer. I can save on external drive...but is there some kind of conversion process that I'll need to figure out? I don't want an OS that can't read my files. I'm not super tech savvy. Any advice is appreciated!

Exactly. Once you exit Windows, you are free and no operating system can contain you. There are no "wrong" choices with the various Linux distributions because none of them are designed own you, control you and prevent you from leaving.
