While making my coffee this morning I was thinking about how JP and the crew on this channel have taught me 2 very important concepts beyond just 'drop Windows and install Linux:'

1. We have been in the habit of 'taking things in' without knowing what's in them. We have been allowing Windows/Mac updates for years without knowing what's in them. Taking that further, we eat food and we don't know where it's from, or what's really in it. We listen to the news and believe it without checking the sources. We read without knowing the background of the author. This is a bad habit to keep in mind in many areas of our lives.

2. Nothing is free, and if a service allows your use for no charge, you are paying for it with your personal information. Every "free" social media app tracks you, watches what you do and what you watch, listens to you, then sells that information for other purposes. We use it for "free" but then THEY MAKE MONEY OFF OF YOU. (I would say a unique exception is FOSS because they have a goal and an agenda fueled by volunteers and people who support them financially. Hope I understand that correctly.) So be wary of free social media services because YOU become the commodity.

Admins Note We see the Telegram app as Free, at least it has been for a few years. Telegram will soon include advertising on channels which we do not see as a deal-breaker, if they don't track users--they've said they will not be tracking. We applaud them for this approach! And, Pavel Durov, Telegram's author, promises they will keep the code Open Source so we know what's in it. A good example for other App developers.

Howdy All...just My 2 Cents Worth....I have LinuxMint 20.1 and it is a Great Distro and also has a Support Group LinuxMint Tech Support on HexChat (Comes with the Distribution and is Installed when you Install Linux Mint. I have found this Distro and Tech Support Very Helpful over the last Several Years. I Hope this Helps.

It is true that the USA is more influential over the world's technology than any other country.

This chart (current as of April, 2021) is just one measure, but it is interesting. It shows the total number of internet domain name registrations by country.

Here you can see American internet domain names lead the next most influential country, China, by more than 3x.
