Scott and later acquired by the parent company of eHarmony in March of 2020.

I was introduced to jeff.pro and Linux in September. My route was to resurrect a couple of dead windows laptops sitting in the closet and started diving in. I started with Ubuntu, checked out a couple other distros (Zorin & Mint) but reinstalled Ubuntu and I am happy there for my "initial learning" phase of this adventure — fewer distractions for me, just a good solid distro, with LOTS of Ubuntu users and LOTS of Ubuntu specific sources of info. I kept my 2020 MacBookPro until I was satisfied that my HP-Laptop-with-Ubuntu was doing all of my tasks. (Sold my Mac on Swappa two weeks ago!). I knew I wanted to replace my iPhone ASAP, so early on I chose to get a pre-degoogled Pixel from Rob Braxman (degoogling a phone is more technically challenging). I bought a Pixel 4 with LineageOS, and decided to try Patriot Mobile, and opted to get a new phone number. I kept my AT&T iphone, to take my time saving all my iphone data. I am 100% satisfied with these choices along the way, and have not felt rushed in the process. I will likely have a couple iphones and at least one ipad ready to sell on Swappa in a few weeks, and my household will be "switched to Linux and FOSS"! I think that 5 months to make the switch from Windows/Mac phones, tablets and computers for my husband and me was an admirable accomplishment. (We had begun our divorce from google, YT, FB, etc., January2021 and have completed this in 2021 also.) Just thought it might help to hear my journey. I don't think any two of us newbies have done it quite the same, but we learn from each other! Blessings @Katus on your journey!

Tomorrow is the last day of 2021. The new year holds so many exciting and new things for us all as we all work together in saving this great Republic we call the USA and restoring Freedom around the world. Let us make it a new year in which we all tell big tech enough by abandoning their products and services. Many of us have started doing this already and some of us have yet to make the move. The first real step in this journey though is recognizing we have been abused by big tech and that there are alternitives to big tech in the world of Linux and FOSS. Help spread the word of this movement through out the coming year.

In my almost 30 years in the IT world, I've used Linux, Mac OS, and Windows professionally for extended periods of time. I've built and supported all kinds of applications, networks, and servers. For almost 3 decades I have maintained Linux servers, but at some point, I switched to Mac OS for workstations because it was basically Linux with a nice user interface and hardware that just works. I trusted Apple until 2018 and will admit that convenience became complacency. Although I have the skills and experience to switch entirely to open source, I depend upon technology for my business and it is no small undertaking.

However, in 2022, I want to offer "the switch" to small businesses like mine, and as this is a case of the "mote and the beam" (Matt 7:3), I have been planning out a strategy to first rid my business of big tech. Implementation started this month with the purchase of a de-googled phone from Braxman, and a laptop and desktop from System 76. I will use these to leap frog my existing Apple hardware. The laptop and desktop were roughly 30% more powerful than equivalent units from Apple at about 30% to 40% less cost.

You may have heard "be the change you want to see in the world". I believe change starts with one. We must be the change we want to see in our families, our businesses, our communities, and in our country.

I would like to thank JP for helping me find the motivation and resolve to get this done.

Kodi Update #3: What I've learned about Linux and VPNs is making me feel extra smart today. 😁 I successfully connected Kodi (a FOSS media center program that I have installed on a Raspberry Pi 4) to my OpenVPN, which I am hosting on my own VPS with Linode. A few months ago I would have read that and had no idea what it all meant. Now I'm doing it myself, thanks to all the great help and inspiration on this channel. (Yes, that's my Christmas tree and window lights in the reflection lol)

Let us never let what we are doing be about ourselves but about our family, our friends, our countries, the freedom of all mankind. What we are working on can change the world, the course history. Thank you for all you do. I am completely converted on one of my laptops and now ready for the second and my desktop. I only did one because I wasn't sure if I would be able to hang with it. I am proud to say 'I can hang with the big boys'
This laptop will go to my daughter and I will move on to the next laptop. So she will have to learn Linux when she accepts this one lol. I created my first little video and am excited to learn more. I have also (sort of) got the GIMP program down that Will Welker and my son helped me out with getting.
Your support has been great. I am thankful for the way y'all just help us... just because. I am going into the new year with the determination of learning more about Linux.
