I was ready to dowonload mint, but I noticed all the steps to verify iso, integrity, and authenticity... and they have different exe files to download and run. I didn't see this in the instruction videos in how to download linux distros. I am intimidated.

Don’t be intimidated! I installed it on my laptop. I took the steps to verify and it failed so I downloaded again verified and it passed so that want what I used to install!

I want to upgrade the ram in my Dell Latitude. Any recommended sources?

I have been using Plasma KDE for a while with Manjaro. It's definitely for someone that loves to customize nearly all aspects of their desktop environment. The system settings is my favorite aspect as every setting is laid out nice and in a list.

I am testing several Linux distributions... I have loaded Linux mint cinnamon, Linux mint Xfce, Ubuntu, Lubuntu, Manjaro, and Debian... It's so hard to choose but I'm kind of digging the simplicity of Debian...👍

Installed Ubuntu on a 2011 Macbook Pro. This computer was useless, running extremely slow and unable to update to the latest OSX versions. The installation from USB stick created on a PC went flawlesly, all function keys work fine. I'm amazed how fast the machine is now going!

My son-in-law built me a fabulous computer for Christmas and it is Linux Mint! I'm using it now. It's quite different from Microsoft, Windows, etc. So much to learn. I never thought I would actually get to do this! I'll be following ever single 101 class!

Silly question. I haven’t started switching over to Linux, just read this channel. My iPhone 11 is two years old and of course things are starting to not work because I haven’t updated the software. Any reason why I shouldn’t update to 15.2?

I have to say this group has opened me up to more techie stuff than what I would otherwise be doing or learning. I am so glad to be a witness to my growth as well as others sharing what they are doing. I am in the process of deleting apps off of the iPhone which is a tricky 5 step process!!

Right now, there's only two Mobile Operating Systems, Apple iOS and Android. Almost everyone with a phone is running on one of those two. That means, Apple and Google have absolute control--the ability to monitor, track and cancel whoever and whatever they want, 'at the system level', through every mobile device in our country and the world. How did we get here? By trusting them too much.

Some groups have tried to build, or re-build alternate tech Operating Systems with limited success. The way I see it, they were lackiing willpower and tenacity, more than resources. It's time for a change. Friends, it's really important for all of us, and our future, in so many ways.

This group is full of brave, bold American Patriots. We will see what we can do to make a difference to start levelling things out in the technology world, in the new year! 🥳

Good afternoon, Patriots! For those of you who are new to the Jeff.pro community, your host on this Telegram channel is Jeffrey Peterson, a former founder/CEO of a top-20 online Social Network in the U.S., QP/MeetMe Corp., previously traded on the Nasdaq Stock Market for 10 years, (QPSA, MEET) sold to Venture Capitalist (now Florida Senator) Richard L. Scott and later acquired by the parent company of eHarmony in March of 2020.

A good amount of the content you will read on this channel will be conversations from other Patriots learning about the world of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and the Linux Operating System. Learning Linux will allow you to take control of your technology, escape 'big tech', and put you on the right path for your digital future! 🥳

I was introduced to jeff.pro and Linux in September. My route was to resurrect a couple of dead windows laptops sitting in the closet and started diving in. I started with Ubuntu, checked out a couple other distros (Zorin & Mint) but reinstalled Ubuntu and I am happy there for my "initial learning" phase of this adventure — fewer distractions for me, just a good solid distro, with LOTS of Ubuntu users and LOTS of Ubuntu specific sources of info. I kept my 2020 MacBookPro until I was satisfied that my HP-Laptop-with-Ubuntu was doing all of my tasks. (Sold my Mac on Swappa two weeks ago!). I knew I wanted to replace my iPhone ASAP, so early on I chose to get a pre-degoogled Pixel from Rob Braxman (degoogling a phone is more technically challenging). I bought a Pixel 4 with LineageOS, and decided to try Patriot Mobile, and opted to get a new phone number. I kept my AT&T iphone, to take my time saving all my iphone data. I am 100% satisfied with these choices along the way, and have not felt rushed in the process. I will likely have a couple iphones and at least one ipad ready to sell on Swappa in a few weeks, and my household will be "switched to Linux and FOSS"! I think that 5 months to make the switch from Windows/Mac phones, tablets and computers for my husband and me was an admirable accomplishment. (We had begun our divorce from google, YT, FB, etc., January2021 and have completed this in 2021 also.) Just thought it might help to hear my journey. I don't think any two of us newbies have done it quite the same, but we learn from each other! Blessings @Katus on your journey!
