Verizon loves making life harder on people who want to be free

I have Verizon too. I asked hubby for an unlocked Pixel 4XL for Christmas. If I get it, I hope to flash it with Lineage and start learning from there.
Friends, our great technology chat room is where Patriots have been learning by assimilation about Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and the Linux Operating System, the things we teach on this channel, by watching others.

It's already the biggest tech chat room on Telegram! Who would have thought? If you're not there yet, you can add our chat to your telegram, and start on your path to Digital Freedom yourself, by clicking here -> @jptchat

We've been very happy with our DeGoogled Pixel 4 XLs with Lineage OS. Not a perfect Linux solution, but we have not entered a log in to the Google Play Store, etc. to get the full gamut of apps we wanted, and we can get most everything to work. Still working on "notifications" issues on a couple apps, but even as an interim solution we TRULY feel the FREEDOM!

So, I did successfully put Mint on a older HP LT. Wow, just wow. An amazing crisp and quick environment. Now, learning the WP, SS, and photo/draw tools, and understanding how to ensure file compatibility...

Awesome! I made a convert out of my friend yesterday, he had a 2010 Samsung laptop that was useless, 4gb RAM, I installed Ubuntu and it runs fast! Getting much better with Linux, and spreading the word everyday to others. Thank you all on here.

What does it take to change the course of computing history in the United States?

It takes a catalyst, a reason it has to change -- and a clear vision.

Tyrannical 'big tech' companies dominating virtually the entire market, while working together with a tyranincal government regime to take away our rights, is a strong catalyst.

Free and Open Source Software (FOSS), already proven, is the vision.

It appears that Tmobile/Sprint is dropping the 3G CDMA. I believe that is what your Samsung 5 uses. So any carrier abandoning 3G CDMA will not accept your phone after the switch. Also your Samsung 5 is only 'unofficially' supported through "4.4.4 kitkat via three different ports of CyanogenMod" and even that now is discontinued. I'm kinda thinking it may be time to think about a newer phone.

I have had dealings with Patriot Mobile in the past couple months and I am very happy with them. A couple of telephone conversations have left me with the impression that they are a United States of American based expanding company geared toward customer support.

We switched over from Verizon to Patriot Mobile in the summer. Same experience. VERY helpful and great customer service, so different from Verizon, Sprint and the other "woke" companies.

Thank you Jeff!!! I started following your channel. One thing I like is all the people sharing all they have learned. What a blessing you are. I keep telling myself I can learn to do it, haven’t taken the plunge yet. But soon. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

BIOS means (B)asic (I)nput (O)utput (S)ystem.

For a long time, computer motherboards relied on a kind of read-only memory (ROM) called the BIOS, or Basic Input Output System, to store important system configuration options for when your computer first powers on.

The BIOS was configured with a screen like the one shown above, with options for which device to boot from, such as a CD-ROM or "boot from USB." On systems with a BIOS, the BIOS would load first at power-on, before the Operating System. In newer systems, the BIOS is being replaced by something called the UEFI, which performs many of the same functions the BIOS used to.

So thrilled that my Linux machine was able to play region locked DVDs when they would not play on my son-in-law's fancy schmansy TV/computer system. I have some US region DVDs of some of my favorite kid Christmas shows that I wanted to watch with my grandkids here in Europe. Linux and VLC to the rescue! Frosty and Rudolph can be enjoyed by another generation.
