So if I buy a dell with linux ubuntu from ebay....it will not have Facebook or Windows or Google? Correct?

I am using a Dell/Ubuntu I bought on Ebay very similar to the one several comments above my comment. It has worked very very well and has introduced me to Linux Ubuntu. I have since removed Windows on an older laptop and put Ubuntu on, just to see if I could. It came out fine. Though, I'm going to continue to use the one I bought on Ebay. No regrets. Was well worth the $289 to me.

Long story made short...I had an old HP laptop in the closet because it wasn't able to handle any more Win updates. I stumbled upon this group and figured I had nothing to lose by trying to switch it to Linux and I was right! I did a little research on what Linux flavor would work on my old machine. Linux Puppy Slacko won the process of elimination and now my old useless laptop is a usable again!

One question, if I backup files and install a new linux distributionOS successfully; what about the FB and Windows and Google that is still there? Can any of them "pop up" and show me what "friends" are posting; ask me if I want to update now or later?......you know can they still monitor and bother me?

I installed Ubuntu on an old HP Pavillion that was not working properly. That was about three months ago. It works wonderfully and has never given me another problem. Ubuntu si so much better than Windows. It overheated and turned itself off with windows.

I am a 65 year old machinist and am not very computer savvy. After following Jeff.pro for a while I thought what the heck, I’ll try it. I downloaded Linux mint cinnamon and made a bootable usb. I played with it for a while, running Linux from the usb. Finally I installed it on a Hp-15-db0xxx laptop and kept windows. I remembered we had a HP 23 all in one desktop with a new hard drive that never had an OS installed. So I drug it out of the closet (after 3 years) and installed Linux on it as well. I’m very pleased with both installations. I plan to remove windows completely soon. I know if an old man can do it, you can too. It’s not hard, you just have to pay attention to what you’re doing. My new Linux on both machines is clean, smooth and fast.

I downloaded Linux mint cinnamon to my laptop. It went into the downloads folder. I then downloaded balena etcher, plugged in the usb. I then opened etcher and followed the on screen instructions. It was easy.

On this Telegram channel, we teach Patriots how to defeat tyrannical 'big tech' organizations like Microsoft (Windows), Apple, Google, and more, by learning to use Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and the Linux Operating System.

We go beyond the concept of 'alternate platforms', to the place where you need to be to truly take back control -- the operating system level -- and show you how to get complete control over your technology, once and for all. Linux is the future, it is Digital Freedom!

I subscribe to the MakeUseOf.com daily ezine because it highlights lots of tech news, including quite a bit of Linux news. I thought you'd enjoy seeing this article by them: Isn’t It Time to Switch to Linux? 12 Reasons to Abandon Windows. https://www.makeuseof.com/switch-to-linux-reasons-to-abandon-windows/

Google just reported 92% year-over-year growth for it's non-mobile ChromeOS segment. Meaning, engagement and users almost doubled for ChromeOS, outside of the mobile market. These are "Chromebook" notebooks and laptops.

Impressive, except ChromeOS isn't Google's Operating System. It's Linux with a Google spyware/tracking layer and apps built on top of it.

Another example of a Unix-like Operating System driving fast growth. It's time for Patriots to realize what is happening here, and join this trend with our own Freedom-flavored O.S. that can get out in to the market, to start the road to balancing things out. That is what we are doing in this group.

The numbers are in -- 85% of you say you don't trust Microsoft Windows any more. Another 12% said, trust or not, Windows is not well built. That's 97% of you in this group who are ready to fire Bill Gates!

I switched to Linux 10 years ago. Not a single regret. I also recommend an open source router that runs dd-wrt.

If I could only get Linux on my phone.......
Bette Midler insults West Virginians because Joe Manchin committed the forbidden act of exercising independent judgement within the lockstep Democrat party to say he would vote against the "BBB" Convert the U.S. to China bill. What a joke. No one cares what you think, Midler! 😝
