I'm a newbie too. Is this a program I download or a hard drive I need to install? I am excited to switch from the posts I have see 🤗

I put Mint on a 10 yr old Lenovo Think Pad. It's screaming fast and running like a champ!! Love Love Love Linux!

It's an Operating System. You can call it a program if you like, but it's much more. You know Windows or Mac OS? Those are Operating Systems. Linux is another—the best. You don't install a hard drive, you install Linux onto an existing hard drive. If you have an old laptop or desktop, just install on that.

I don't know about other vendors, but HP has service manuals for many of their laptops online and you can download them. It is nice to know that on some models there are hidden screws under foot pads, or stickers.. It also has part numbers so you can find replacement parts if needed. When I was looking for a used laptop on marketplace, I would ask for model number and then see what the manuals said about upgrades, etc.

There was a HP desktop unit that I was interested in for NAS server, but online manual showed limited upgrade potential. Turns out that was why the seller was selling it..

"Accidentally" uninstalled Windows 10, while installing something else, oh well. It's gone now. *throws my win 10 installation media out the window* not buying or making a new copy of it. It's gone.

I just got an old Compaq from my aunt, and I'm ready to try Ubuntu! I've done a few Mint installs and one Lubuntu but not straight up Ubuntu yet. Looks exciting!

I'm listening to the 3rd LMS class. Jeff says, "If you stick around my classes for a month you'll never look at your windows machine the same again." @ the 1hour03minute mark. ....I've been here 2 and a half months.....and I am now on my old Dell XPS with Zorin Core, which I installed on my own on Thanksgiving. (66 year old lady, non-tech casual computer user) I am totally loving Zorin, and I only pick up MicroShaft when I absolutely have to!! Thank you, Jeff!!!

Our group has given me so much peace of mind. As big tech seems to be tightening their grip we are escaping!

Two solid months on Linux. I had to log onto a Windows machine the other day because I was having a hard time aligning my HP printer cartridge. It was so slow, anti-virus was going wonky telling me I had to do all these updates. I got on the HP app, aligned the cartridge and did a clean boot of Mint. Done, Windows is a mess! Bye bye. Thank you Jeff! Couldn't have done it without you.
