What are peoples opinions of Freedom Phone

No dumb questions here. You can check out System 76, Star Labs for computers, and Rob Braxman for phones. Dell also offers a laptop with a Linux distro on it I believe (maybe Ubuntu). Sorry for not providing links, I'm on a roof at the moment, but will gladly find it and link it here in a bit. 👍

I would love to change, but I have so many questions. Will it work , for example, with Office…..spreadsheets, Word, etc. Or is it proprietary?

Same. I was excited to buy the freedom phone but once I looked into it more, didn't like what I saw. The silver lining is that it turned me on to other options. I'm happy with the de-googled phone I got on eBay.

I am looking for a new phone but it’s a bit overwhelming.

Great place to look is Back Market. They sell refurbed electronics and are very reasonably priced. Also, their customer service is second to none. I had a great experience with them about a week ago. What I purchased from them was rated "good" condition but it looks and operates like a brand new phone.

I got an old Pixel 3a from Swappa for $100 and switched it to Calyx this week.

IMHO Linux is the future. As soon as my Pixel 3a arrives will put Ubuntu Touch on it.

I have a pretty dumb question: when I want to put a distro on my computer, I download it onto a thumb drive and then install it. No problem there. My question is if I want to install programs like neofetch or word ops where do they come from? Do I go to a website to find them?

Linux is used on about 75 percent of servers I believe. Ubuntu and others are eventually going to take over the market. People are becoming disenfranchised with the other Operating Systems out there.

Extremely helpful. Downloaded installers and now Linux is installing. My computer is running hot (I should probably invest in fan attachments) so fingers crossed that this works. I will definitely be using Linux as a standalone bc I have hated the other since they shifted away from XP. No more invasive and bloated Windows OS in this house.

Linux Mint - my favorite distro. Been using it for a decade. I do automotive photography and don't use Photoshop or Lightroom. You can always find a good open source alternative - Darktable and GIMP baby!

I did it! I had been meaning to post this picture but every time I came back to my computer I just couldn’t stop playing around with it and kept forgetting to take a picture! Anyway, I am no longer a windows user, I’m fully set up on Linux Mint thanks to this group! I’m surprised at how quickly and easily I was able to do this. JP is right, just give it a little time and you’ll get there! Next project is my phone. I’ve ordered a nexus 5 and loading Ubuntu the minute it arrives. Also switching to Patriot Mobile. These are life changing steps to move away from big tech in 2 major areas of my life. THANK YOU to JP, Vasileios and this group for making this possible!!!
