2 days and 2 fresh installs later, I have Linux Mint installed correctly. Learned I do not like installing it as OEM. Nothing seemed to work that way. Also after trying all day, I finally have the Brave browser installed again- was not nearly as easy this time as the 1st time. And I have Telegram! Now to find other cool stuff in the coming days! I skipped the root password altogether so I only have one to remember. And I wrote that one down. I have an extra hard drive to use to back up everything I have done to make it easier next time.

I just wanted to share, I feel so excited and empowered! Today I installed Ubuntu on my Surface Pro! Before I did that, the Surface, *without being connected to the internet* and after changing the settings to NOT do the Windows updates, went ahead and updated. At first I was angry, then I thought, "This is the LAST TIME that will happen on this computer!" After that forced update, I installed Ubuntu and feel so happy. The tech walls that seemed to be closing in are suddenly expanded. I can breathe, knowing that I do not have to be under Microsoft control. I just followed the instructions on the video in Jeff's learning system. I am looking forward to exploring my new Ubuntu OS Surface, and excited to see what other wonderful things Jeff has in store for us! Thank you Jeff! Thank you to all of you in this amazing community.

G'day Frens,

Like many, I am giving big tech the two-fingered salute and moved from Win10 to Ubuntu a couple of weekends ago.

Despite building a solid Win10-based gaming PC, this poor simple Aussie is swimming up s**t creek without a paddle when it comes to this. Way over my head!

Thanks to those who have formed this forum and community on such a short time frame, i'm sure Linux is going to get a lot of attention in the coming months.

Reading telegram, making notes in Cherrytree, playing solitaire all at once - with the Vivaldi browser ready in the background. All this would bog down this desktop in no time when it was a Windows Machine. Linux is a beautiful symphony of code. 😍
And that disk cover is Transport Tycoon Deluxe (I am heavily into simulation games).

Wow!! Fabulous interview!! I am one month into this adventure--a granny who is doing this--and the freedom feels amazing! I converted two old laptops in the first week, started digging in to all the learning resources, bought a Linux OS cell phone, and all this from zero Linux knowledge! Its a journey, but I keep making progress day by day! An amazing support and encouragement group of very nice, regular folks @ Jeff.pro! So grateful my sis forwarded an intro to me! Congrats Jeff on this great podcast interview! Don Jr's words were so kind and encouraging too! Thank you!!

I tried both of them & Mint gave me graphic issues, would install then restart and failed, then tried Kubuntu which is Ubuntu with the KDE desktop & other software pre-installed like Libreoffice & that worked a treat & got this running on 3 computers now. So if you find one flavour of Linux doesnt work there are plenty of other distro's that could then work instead & best bit is they are all free, so easy to go-ahead and try.

Yes. I think people are ready to purchase or work with any OS that is Linux with freedom from data capture. People want ease and convenience. If there was an easy and convenient and private OS, what would happen to the OS industry.

Back Market is great. Just had an instance this week where their customer service went above and beyond.

I like your attitude. You might try Ubuntu 21.04. I have seen that solve NVIDIA driver issues.

Has anyone looked into the raspberry pi kits? I wanted to buy one but not sure if I should buy the extreme, starter, or max kit. The only thing about the extreme kit is that it doesn’t have a fan but it has a bigger MicroSD cardboard
