If you are one of the 400 Patriots in our Linux for Beginners ongoing course, Course 8 is up and available on the LMS!
Course 8 is a more technical look at a scenario in Linux where you may want to expand the storage capacity of your Home folder.
Congrats to our chat admin, Vasileios Kontodimas, for his great work on Course 8!
If any of you find Course 8 "too technical," don't worry, we will be back to Beginner topics in the next course!

I got a new "factory unlocked" pixel 3xl on Ebay for about 200. They are not from any carrier, and can be rooted. There were 2 sellers of these, and might still be selling them.

That’s my plan as well. Once i get the hang of the phone I’m going to look for a degoogled tablet and ultimately switch desktop to Linux.

See Robert Braxman on YouTube, he's a phone & 'non traceable' wizard.

I also deleted FB and Twitter. I’m still amazed at all the people still on there who get shadow banned and are in violation of the rules made just for Republicans🙃

I took me a year to wean myself off, because I was concerned I wouldn't be able talk with friends. I have found them elsewhere. I'm glad I dumped those sites now.

Wow!
3 weeks ago I had heard of Linux before but knew ZERO about it…
And now…
I’m soaking up as much as possible! And today, I created my first input/output/if/then Shell script!
Elementary from what a lot of "vets" here know I’m sure haha, but I’m hoping to have my RHCSA, RHCE, then Ansible certs in the next few months.
THIS is life-changing and I am very thankful.
Thanks JP and Vasileios👊

Worth looking into options.
T-Mobile is very competitive in coverage and much better for International travel these days. Coming from a Verizon customer that has been overseas and throughout the US in the past 5 years. T-Mobile co-workers had great service for less $$ and no cost roaming overseas for short trips. Meanwhile Verizon was $10 a day for me. My new Patriot Mobile service is riding on T-mobile in my home area working fine. Google Store Pixel Phones are unlocked. I think most non-carrier phones are unlocked.

5G is a mystery. Does it even exist? Friends and online reviews are saying that when the phone says 5G signal, there is no noticeable speed increase at this time. I have my Pixel 5a set to LTE only. This is a tip I found online to extend the battery life and prevent the phone from jumping between 3g/LTE/5G while driving around. Plus, I don’t want to have my phone generating 5G signals.

Hi Jeff, I would like to offer a HEARTFELT THANK YOU for what you have done! Four weeks ago I knew nothing about Linux than these 5 letters L I N U X. I am not technical geek and rather have very limited knowledge. Thanks to you that all machines (other than work laptop) in my house are linux based now. I have become more and more interested now and now operate my own cloud, vpn and adblocker. I am so keen and curious to find ways to get away from big tech. Planning on creating my own email server and convert all the people in my friend and family circle away from big tech. Once again, A MASSIVE THANK YOU! WWG1WGA! NCSWIC! God Bless You! God Bless America!

Random Access Memory ("RAM"). Every computing device, whether it is your mobile phone, laptop, or computer, performs logical instructions it reads from temporary "working" memory, known as RAM.
Although many CPU and component semiconductor 'chips' are made in Asia, there are numerous manufacturers of memory chips in the USA and Europe.
"Computer random access memory (RAM) is one of the most important components in determining your system’s performance. RAM gives applications a place to store and access data on a short-term basis. It stores the information your computer is actively using so that it can be accessed quickly."

The Great American Computer Memory Crisis of 1988 was an industry changing event that no one expected, and most have since forgot.
By late 1985, the computer industry was over extended. There was a feeling "everything that could be invented had already been invented" in the technology industry, that no new innovation would be seen, and computer sales were slumping. The cost-per-megabyte of RAM chips in September 1985 was about $300.
"Demand for computers started slowing, and the computer manufacturers found themselves with a tremendous inventory. So they stopped buying chips. For about six months there was no demand. People started selling chips for whatever price they could get.” Prices kept dropping: The cost-per-megabyte fell to as low as $133 in October of 1987.
People had no idea that the biggest invention yet, in the history of technology and computing, was waiting only a few short years away. Within a few years, four-megabit chips became available on the market, a massive upgrade in capacity that came just in time for the internet revolution to take hold, eventually leading to electronic commerce.

The Chicago Tribune wrote that The Great American Computer Memory Crisis of 1988 was like the "Oil Crisis of Computers."
The late 1980's was one of several times the American public felt the technology industry had reached its peak. In reality, the tech industry was still in the first five minutes of history, the greatest and most profitable developments were yet to be realized.
