you can use sudoedit <file> instead of sudo nvim <file> to edit and save system files without losing your neovim setup.

Turns out, when you sudo nvim <file> , you’re launching Neovim as root (obviously 😁), which means: different $HOME, no config, no plugins and I thought there is no other way to edit and save files that need higher permission (like root) other than sudo nvim but there is a way.

sudoedit opens the file as your user (with your full Neovim setup) and only escalates permissions when saving. (you need to set the $EDITOR env for your shell to make it work tho.)

Parallel agents attempting different vague ideas I had but didn't have time to get started on. I didn't expect them to produce something I'd ever ship here, but perhaps could illuminate some unknown unknowns when I got to the task the next day.
