I've just heard devastating news my teacher Sensei Bryan Robbins passed away today. His impact on my life has been immeasurable. Without his influence, there would be no JDK. My martial arts world has lost an incredible teacher today. RIP Mr Robbins.

Currently researching and writing about events around the time of the Kanazawa treaty which opened up a closed Japan to foreign ships. So when I attended a batik canting session with Ems and Beth, I chose to do an interpretation of a Hokusai piece on The Great Wave of Kanazawa. The treaty, a metaphorical great wave, was initiated by Commodore Matthew Perry, and was the death knell for Ryukyu.
