The sector is still deep in “Web3 Winter” mode - layoffs, closures, and talent displacement continue even as some parts of the market rally. No official “unemployment rate” exists for crypto/Web3, but here’s what’s happening right now:

• OP Labs (Optimism) just laid off ~20 people (over 20% of the team) to narrow focus amid Ethereum L2 shifts and Base migration. CEO confirmed it’s strategic, not cash-related.
• Multiple projects (Berachain, Eclipse Labs, Polygon, etc.) cut 30–65% of staff or shut down entirely. Over 10 Web3 projects have already ceased operations in early 2026.
• Broader tech layoffs hit 45,000+ in March alone (some AI-driven); Block (Jack Dorsey) cut 4,000+ jobs in February. Developer activity in crypto dropped sharply this year.
