❗️FINAL CHANCE to influence government's decision on permanent Health regulations — closes Saturday, 16 April❗️

If you have not yet participated in this extremely important policy amendment, please take two minutes to read the info at the below – and have your say at the link.

If you are one of the 215,000 who have already had a say, thank you for your active participation and impact on the government's suggestion to create permanent Covid regulations under the Health Act.

However, we need your assistance to get those numbers up.

Please encourage participation by sharing this message with your contacts and your community groups. This is extremely urgent as the comment window closes this Saturday, 16 April. https://dearsouthafrica.co.za/health-act-amendment/

TEMPORARY REGULATIONS UNDER THE DISASTER MANAGEMENT ACT BECOME PERMANENT ONCE UNDER THE HEALTH ACT.

Following the announcement by President Ramaphosa last Monday evening that the State of Disaster is lifted and temporary regulations withdrawn, the Department of Health has called for public comment on shifting all the regulations under the National Health Act — which will make all Covid regulations permanent.

“Going forward, the pandemic will be managed in terms of the National Health Act. The draft Health Regulations have been published for public comment,” Ramaphosa said.

“Once the period for public comment closes on the 16th of April 2022 and the comments have been considered, the new regulations will be finalised and promulgated.”

Once approved, the Department of Health said the regulations will be implemented without being tabled in parliament, since it is subordinate legislation already delegated to the minister.

The regulations also leave the door open for other restrictions, labelled as ‘advice giving’ between different departments. This advice can relate to curfew, national lockdown, economic activity and the sale of alcohol, among others.

Let us not forget that Covid did not wreck our economy.
Covid did not take your job away.
Covid did not prevent you from visiting your parents or children.
The government did.
And they did so through regulations – the same regulations which are now being made permanent under the Health Act.

No matter which side of the fence you stand on, this amendment will have a significant impact on every aspect of your life.

⭕️As the Department has called for public comment, I ask you to please click the link or image to have your say, and then share with all your groups and contacts.

As we have seen, public pressure creates impact – and your voice is a powerful influence on the direction of our democracy.

Thank you for being democratically engaged, active and responsible.

Chairman, Dear South Africa

Well now. This sure is a victory for civil society … and half our court case done. Clearly gov is afraid to go to court. Next up; we’ll make sure they drop the draft regulations too. 😊
