We are used to saying, "Well, I don't do anything bad," and we are satisfied with this state of stagnation." I don't do anything bad and the Lord will have mercy on me." Well, you don't do anything bad but you neither do anything good. You don't do it, while the Lord gives you every means and opportunity for it, so you could multiply goodness and holiness on earth. And you simply don't do anything bad.

Together with the unprofitable servant we might hear the horrible sentence of the Lord, "Sheep shall be at the right hand and goats at the left one." As the Gospel says, many people will be bewildered then, "Lord, why? We didn't do anything bad!" You are judged not because you did something bad but because you didn't do anything good when you could and had to do something every day. Everyone of us has means to do it, especially, Christians, who receive the Grace of the Holy Spirit at the Mystery of Baptism. And they can do not only good deeds in the format of this temporary life that will end but also they can do something in spiritual realm.

Often even Christians are too cautious: "I wish I don't fall into delusion, I wish I don't mistake! Well, I'd better do nothing." "Jesus prayer? Oh, it's too responsible! Oh, I can make a mistake and fall into delusion. I should better do nothing and just be a good man." Some good people will be very much surprised at hearing, "You go there, into outer darkness." "How can it be?" "There you go."

Today most people live in a kind of schizophrenia when our mind lives its own life and we live on our own. We are not masters of our mind. We say the Lord's Prayer but our mind goes shopping. We tell it, "Stop, you should be here." To which it says, "I'm not asking you. I just go where I want to." This is a mental disorder. It is benign but it is still a disorder.

Therefore, to submit our disobedient mind through the Jesus prayer is our most important and pleasant task. If you succeed in it, you can set your own tasks to your mind. In this case, it can say, "Jesus, Jesus" and help you go into the spiritual realm.
The realm of God is the realm of the mind, and when you are out of your mind, you cannot enter it. When your mind is organized and submitted to you, it becomes your instrument and you can give it a task. It is very pleasant when your mind listens to you and does what you ask it to do: it stands at Christ's feet and says, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus." An orgazed mind is not the purpose, it is a means. Christ is the purpose! An organized mind fulfills your spiritual task.

In the evening when the sun guilds the iconographers' shop and all work at the hermitage is almost done. Recently we went for a walk all together again saying our prayer rule and counting beads.
Do you like early morning or the hour before sunset more?
