A new type of Push notification was added to the latest Ingress update: Streak Reminders!

As this addition wasn't part of the Release Notes we are unsure how these notifications work and which streaks they are reminding about, but we assume it's a reminder for either the Sojourner streak, the Daily Hack streak or both. Activate the reminders in the settings and let us know if you recieve a Push notification about them!

As announced by Niantic at the start of the Anomaly Series, one last event remains before we say goodbye to Cryptic Memories.

The Cryptic Memories Bonus Week will start this Friday, March 22nd @ 17:00 UTC and will end on Monday, April 1st @ 17:00 UTC.

During this period, the following bonus will be in effect for all players:

🔸All actions will yield 1.331x AP
🔸Hacks on friendly Portals will yield 1.331x amount of gear

This is the perfect chance to gain some AP to level up, and to restock your inventories after the Anomaly effort!

Agents in the discussion group of our Italian channel (@IUITA) tested the previously-discovered push notification regarding hacking streaks. Here is what was found out:

🔸The notification will remind you about your Hackstreak, and will show you your current streak length.
🔸A few different variations for the notification text are possible.
🔸Agents appear to be receiving the notification even if an hack has already been performed for the day.

After a lawsuit against Telegram over copyrighted material on the platform and requests for user data (which Telegram didn't provide), a Spanish judge has ordered a temporary block of all Telegram services in the country. Once this block is implemented, Telegram will become unusable and Agents will have significant issues coordinating via Telegram.

📰 Update on 25/03/2024: The Audiencia Nacional has suspended the blocking of Telegram in Spain

Agents are reporting that the 1.331x AP multiplier for the Cryptic Memories Bonus Week is being overridden by the 2x AP multiplier for the weekly 2sDay, and not being added (2.331x) or multiplied (2.662x) on top.

We are still not sure whether this is a mistake or the intended behaviour, but will keep you informed with the latest reports from Agents around the world.

Niantic has fixed the 20 meter radius bug for new portals!

Normally, when a new Wayspot submission is accepted, it can only go online if there are no other portals within 20 meters. However, this check also considered Wayspots that never went online in Ingress itself, leading to areas with lots of accepted Wayspots in the database, but no portals that actually appeared in Ingress.

With the latest portal sync, this issue has been fixed and the 20 meter check now only considers portals that are already online in Ingress, even though another Wayspot is within 20 meters but not online as a portal. This also applies retroactively to Wayspots that were accepted a while back but didn't go online due to this bug, so if your submission was affected, check if the portal is now online!

Niantic has announced some updates regarding the Vanguards, XM Ambassadors as well as the Ingress forums.

🔸The Vanguard program, as well as the XM Ambassador program, will be going on hiatus on April 15th. Save for a few vanguards, all current sitting members are being retired. The Ingress team is planning a new initiative to replace these two programs by the end of 2024.

🔸The Ingress forum will be going into read-only mode on April 1st and will be retired on April 15th. After April 15th, all posts and comments will be wiped and the forums will not be accessible anymore. The team instead encourages Agents to use r/Ingress on Reddit to post stories, sitreps and everything else that was posted on the forums before.

Reporting bugs will be handled through the in-app report mechanism for the time being with plans for a new system in the future.

If you have posts or comments you want to save it is recommended by Niantic to use the Wayback Machine or other archive software to back these up.

Wayfarer has also just announced an update to their forum!

Instead of closing down it'll be migrated to another forum. While user generated content will not be brought over, posts in the News section will be copied. The new community will launch on April 3rd with the old forum being available until April 15th. Wayfarer Ambassadors will be working together with Niantic and will receive some moderation privileges to help keep the forum clean.

Signing in into the new Wayfarer forum will need a NianticID. If you haven't already created one you will be prompted to do so once you try to sign in. You can also create a NianticID in preperation here: https://my.nianticlabs.com

With the closure of the Ingress forum we will sadly lose the option to look through reported bugs and issues for the game as well as submit bugs so that others can see them. Once again the Ingress.Plus team sprung into action and has created the first alpha of the Community run Bug Tracker!

You can view a list of submitted bugs at ingress.plus/bugs and check when they were reported as well as their current status. Opening a bug report will also show you the first version the bug was discovered in as well as a description submitted by players.

You can also submit bug reports yourself! You only need to register at ingress.plus, after which a new button to submit bugs will appear.

⚠️Note that this should not be considered a replacement from or for Niantic. The tracker is built only so that agents can check if a bug is known to the community or if Niantic is already aware of it. Creating a bug report does not mean that it will be sent to or read by Niantic.

This is the first version of the Bug Tracker and should still be considered an early alpha. New features such as attachments, comments, upvoting and a search feature will be added soon.

Niantic has released Update 2.138.1 into the App Stores!

Keeping in the new tradition of changing the icon for the new anomaly series, the app icon now sports a new, golden look for the Buried Memories anomaly!

For fixes, the listed ones mention that Bounties should now reset correctly at midnight and not require a restart anymore, even if the app is in the background, and that the XM pickup animation was fixed and tweaked.

EDIT: Android users have two additional notes in their changelog.

Niantic talks about the addition of the Streak Reminder notification and how it'll send you a notification if you haven't hacked a portal in 25 hours, as well as the switch from the deprecated Safety Net to the Google Play Integrity API. Phones now need to pass at least "Basic integrity" to be able to download Ingress. This check can fail if the phone is rooted or running on a custom OS.

Thank you all for participating in our April Fools joke! We are happy that the community has worked together and helped each other to crack these puzzles. We want to give you the solution so you can take a crack at the next puzzles you see!

Each puzzle had two parts to it: a hidden passcode and a pointer to the next puzzle.

The passcode for the first puzzle can be found by taking the capital letters of the list of words in the image of the post. The trick here is to pay attention to the 5 words with two capital letters, these represent numbers instead (SIdetracked > SI > six). In the end, you should get the passcode MTC69FA8TULIH1P0KY.

To find the next puzzle you have to look at the scrambled text after the operators note. This text is encoded in Atbash, putting it into an encoder gives you the message "Here is the link to the pastebin, add the following to the site url: 10w4Q4hY". Pastebin is a site on which you can upload plain text, and putting it together to this link, pastebin.com/10d4J4sB, leads to the next puzzle.

Once again there are two parts to this, a passcode and a hint towards the next puzzle.

This passcode was found in almost the same method as the first one: Look at the lines that start with "Received" and note every number and the starting letter of each word, which gives you the passcode 5ES032S6C10MBQHQGX.

The next puzzle was found being the "unknown argument" string, encoded in base64. Decoding this string gives you the URL https://i.ibb.co/q9twQ6G/desktop-screenshot.png, a screenshot of a desktop, leading you to the final puzzle.

The encrypted passcode for the third puzzle was easy to find, but figuring out what to do with it wasn't as easy. The emojis at the top gave a hint towards the encryption method used to hide the passcode called RailFence. That, together with the ---3 at the bottom, which hinted at a RailFence with key=3, gave you the passcode YXX2E7IH838HUNQK0P.

To find the final part you had to pay attention to the string of text at the bottom of the screenshot saying "///owls.blocking.pools". This is part of a website called what3words which gives every part of the globe a unique three word combination to identify it. Plugging these words into it gives you the location of the Casa Batllo in Barcelona. Together with the initial hint from the channel post "find the name of the portal and redeem it", enter CASABATLLO into the passcode box and voilà, you have found the final passcode and have received the secret media the IUENG team wanted to hide from you.
