Yesterday’s Telegram update led to an interesting situation.
For once, many in-app Telegram casinos were not the winners.
Some of these systems relied on forwarded emojis that carried a specific “dice value” via a forward tag. After the update, that tag was no longer present. A small technical change — but enough to break their logic and cause significant losses in payouts to users.
It’s a good reminder of something fundamental:
When a business is built on unstable platform behavior or unintended quirks, a single update can change everything.
Telegram evolves. Its rules evolve.
And in the long run, only systems built on solid, intentional foundations remain reliable.

The Fall of $TON
Recent reports say that Telegram sold around $450M worth of TON, information that was apparently shared with investors from a $1.7B bond deal.
It’s unlikely this sale happened in 2025 on the open market, since TON was already near its lowest prices. If the selling did happen, it was probably spread over time, mostly in 2024.
But the exact timing isn’t the main point.
Today, Telegram is the biggest merchant in TON.
Telegram Stars, Premium subscriptions, and many unofficial payments are done in TON because it’s cheaper than App Store prices. Most resellers and technical users rely on TON for this reason.
At the same time, Telegram introduced TON-only policies in early 2025. This pushed many apps and teams — especially those using other blockchains like Solana — out of Telegram, either because of restrictions or bans.
So the $450M number isn’t surprising. That value could easily have been collected from users over time through different monetization methods.
The bigger problem is the ecosystem itself.
What was supposed to become a WeChat-style platform with DeFi, games, mini-apps, services, and marketplaces has mostly turned into:
• a Telegram Gift market, and
• a small, unclear market for anonymous numbers.
Inside the Gift market:
• about 80% of the value goes directly to Telegram through fees and repeated releases
• the remaining 20% is controlled by a few big players, making the market feel manipulated or casino-like
For most users, these details don’t matter much.
They only see the result:
1. Telegram sold TON,
2. $TON dropped,
3. fell in rankings,
4. and lost attention.
Meanwhile, coins like BNB didn’t follow this path — they grew instead.
And that difference is what makes TON’s story disappointing for many people.

As social media grew after around 2016 — and especially after the content explosion during COVID in 2020 — everyone started looking for a “hack.”
A hack the older generation already knew well: attention hacking — how to get noticed.
Over the years, some people tried everything to grab attention:
dangerous selfies, shock content, public fights, personal drama, oversharing private stories, borderline explicit content, or selling “impossible success secrets at a young age.”
These paths were expensive and time-consuming, but everyone wanted fast growth and the feeling of being special.
That’s when fake followers slowly turned into an unfair advantage.
Between roughly 2018 and 2024, bots — especially on Instagram and old Twitter — helped many people build a fast “brand” with big numbers, likes, and comments.
At first, even platforms were fooled, and some of these accounts were promoted.
Later, algorithms became smarter, and fake followers turned into more of a visual branding trick than a real growth tool.
Today, in early 2026, follower count has lost much of its importance.
Even view counts — after the rise of TikTok and Instagram Reels — are no longer reliable signals.
Platforms have shifted from promoting people to promoting content.
In this shift, many creators got lost.
Content houses, collaborations, and new formats appeared, but in all this noise, finding a real audience and standing out became harder — because the platform is no longer on your side.

I’m genuinely curious where the next algorithm shift will go.

The Telemetrio 2025 report includes some interesting numbers.
On one hand, the number of wallets connected to bot and mini-app revenues has grown almost 10× compared to 2024 —
from 274 wallets to around 2,500 wallets.
But the more interesting part is this 👇
In October 2024, these wallets generated about 2.5 million TON in revenue.
By October 2025, that number increased to 5 million TON.
At first glance, this looks like strong growth.
But once you factor in the price of TON, the picture changes.
During the same period, TON’s price dropped from around $5 to $2.
So in USD terms, there was no real growth —
in fact, it was effectively negative growth.
In simple terms:
even though the number of wallets and participants increased significantly,
the actual economic impact didn’t improve.
More developers and businesses entered the game,
but the total value created stayed flat — or even declined.
The numbers grew.
The real money didn’t.

Two things Telegram shipped recently are worth noting: rich text formatting for messages inside Telegram and easier authentication for web apps. Small additions on paper, but the kind of quiet platform upgrades that make building on Telegram feel more serious.
