Woke AI Chatbot Costs Google $70B In Market Value

Google’s parent company lost more than $70 billion in market value in a single trading day after its chatbot’s bizarre image debacle stoked renewed fears among investors about its heavily promoted AI tool.

The stock plunge also came on the same day that Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, one of the company’s top AI bosses, admitted that Gemini’s image tool would be offline for a "few weeks" while the issue was fixed.

It was revealed Gemini was programmed in order to inject diversity into its content, even when prompted to create images of things like America's Founding Fathers or Vikings.

The chatbot’s bizarre behavior could fuel public concerns that Google is "an unreliable source for AI," Melius Research analyst Ben Reitzes warned in a note to investors.

CIA'S GOOGLE SERVICE YouTube GETTING COMPETITION ON SMART TVs

According to a report, Elon Musk's X is set to launch an app "identical" to YouTube's TV offering for smart TVs as early as next week.

Musk's goal is to get users to watch "long-form videos on a bigger screen" — part of the billionaire's larger initiative to make X the "everything app," according to Fortune , which reported the news citing anonymous sources.

“He wants to compete with YouTube,” the source told Fortune, adding that X’s upcoming video app will initially be exclusive to Amazon and Samsung smart TVs.

TikTok faces ban if House bill passes

A bipartisan bill was unveiled Tuesday that would force Bytedance to either divest TikTok or face a US ban, as well as expand presidential powers to clamp down on other foreign-owned apps.

The bill would give the Chinese owners five months to divest the video platform or see it banned in the US, which TikTok insisted infringes upon the First Amendment rights of Americans.

A more general bill that would have opened up powers to act similarly to any platform was shot down last year.

US Military Uses AI For Air Strikes

US Central Command confirmed the US military has been using computer vision algorithms in order to conduct air strikes in the Middle East.

The machine learning algorithms were used in more than 85 air strikes conducted on Syria and Iraq on February 2.

"We've been using computer vision to identify where there might be threats," US Central Command chief technology officer Schuyler Moore said. "We've certainly had more opportunities to target in the last 60 to 90 days."

Moore said the targeting algorithms, which were developed using the Pentagon's Project Maven initiative that started in 2017, are being used to identify potential targets, but not to verify them or deploy weapons against them.

"There is never an algorithm that’s just running, coming to a conclusion and then pushing onto the next step," Moore said. "Every step that involves AI has a human checking in at the end." (RT.com)
