Woke AI Chatbot Costs Google $70B In Market Value

Google’s parent company lost more than $70 billion in market value in a single trading day after its chatbot’s bizarre image debacle stoked renewed fears among investors about its heavily promoted AI tool.

The stock plunge also came on the same day that Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, one of the company’s top AI bosses, admitted that Gemini’s image tool would be offline for a "few weeks" while the issue was fixed.

It was revealed Gemini was programmed in order to inject diversity into its content, even when prompted to create images of things like America's Founding Fathers or Vikings.

The chatbot’s bizarre behavior could fuel public concerns that Google is "an unreliable source for AI," Melius Research analyst Ben Reitzes warned in a note to investors.

According to a report, Elon Musk's X is set to launch an app "identical" to YouTube's TV offering for smart TVs as early as next week.

Musk's goal is to get users to watch "long-form videos on a bigger screen" — part of the billionaire's larger initiative to make X the "everything app," according to Fortune , which reported the news citing anonymous sources.

“He wants to compete with YouTube,” the source told Fortune, adding that X’s upcoming video app will initially be exclusive to Amazon and Samsung smart TVs.
