Chabân 15, 1446 corresponds to Friday, February 14, 2025, it is recommended to fast on this day (and a day before) and to make optional prayers at night.

Ibn Majâh narrated that the Prophet ṣalla l-Lâhu alayhi wa sallam said:

« إذا كانت ليلةُ النصفِ من شعبانَ فقوموا ليلَها وصُوموا نهارها »

(‘idhâ kânat laylatu n-niṣfi min Shabân faqūmû laylahâ wa ṣûmû nahârahâ)

which means: « When it is mid-Shaban night, perform acts of obedience during the night and fast during the day » 

Imam ach-Châfiiyy said: « We have been told that it is said that the invocation is answered in five nights: Friday night, Eid al-'Aḍ-ḥā night, Eid al-Fiṭr night, the first night of Rajab and the night of mid-Sha`bân » narrated by al-Bayhaqiyy

Determining beginning date of Ramaḍān 2025 / 1446H

The sighting of the Ramaḍān crescent moon will be observed on Friday, February 28, 2025, which corresponds to the 29th day of Shabān. If the crescent moon is sighted with the naked eye on Friday evening, then Saturday, March 1, 2025, will mark the 1st day of Ramaḍān. However, if the crescent is not sighted on Friday evening, the following day, Saturday, March 1, 2025, will be considered the 30th day of Shabān, and the 1st day of Ramaḍān will then be Sunday, March 2, 2025, inshā’Allāh.

So, the beginning of the month of Ramaḍān, as well as the end of the month, is determined by sighting the crescent. If the crescent was not sighted, then the month would be completed by thirty days, as is the case with determining all the months of the lunar calendar. This is taken from the Hadîth of the Prophet Muḥammad صلى الله عليه وسلّم related by Al-Bukhâriyy and Muslim:

« لا تَقَدَّمُوا رَمَضانَ بِيَومٍ أَوْ يَومَين صُوموا لرؤيتِه وأفطِرُوا لرُؤيتِه فإنْ غُمَّ علَيكم فأكْمِلوا عِدَّةَ شَعبانَ ثلاثينَ يوما »

which means: « Do not fast one or two days before Ramaḍān. Start the month when you see the crescent, and end it when you see the crescent. If you are blocked from seeing it, then complete thirty days of Sha`bân. »

Ramaḍān Mubārak wa kullu âm wa antum bikhayr. May Allâh reward your fasting, prayers and acts of worship

According to the son of Umar, the Messenger of Allāh ṣalla l-Lâhu alayhi wa sallam said when he saw the lunar crescent of Ramaḍān:

« الله أكبر اللهم أهِلّه علينا بالأمن والإيمان والسلامة والإسلام والتوفيق لما يحب ربنا ويرضى، ربنا وربك الله »

(Allāhu 'Akbar, Allāhumma 'ahillahu alaynā bi l 'amni wa l 'īmān, wa s-salāmati wa l-'islām, wa t-tawfīqi limā youḥibbu rabbunā wa yarḍā, rabbunā wa rabbuka Allāh)

which means: "Allāhu 'Akbar, O Allāh grant that his arrival is accompanied by security and faith, protection, Islam, and ease to accomplish what Allāh agrees, my lord and your lord is Allāh", related by ad-Dārimiyy

According to Abdu l-Lāh son of Hichām: The companions of the Messenger of Allāh learned this invocation that they said when a new year or a new month began:

« اللَّهُمَّ أَدْخِلْهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالْأَمْنِ وَالْإِيمَانِ، وَالسَّلَامَةِ وَالْإِسْلَامِ، وَرِضْوَانٍ مِنَ الرَّحْمَنِ، وَجِوَارٍ (أيْ حِفْظٍ) مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ »

(Allāhumma 'adkhilhu alaynā bi l 'amni wa l 'īmān, wa s-salāmati wa l-'islām, wa riḍwānin mina r-Raḥmān, wa jiwārin mina ch-chayṭān)

Which means: « O Allāh, let his arrival be accompanied by safety and faith, protection and Islam, approval from Ar-Raḥmān, and preservation against the chayṭān ».
