Family members trying to find their martyred loved ones at the #Rabaa massacre.
We will not forget!

#rabaa
In 2013, Muhammad al-Beltaji appeared on the news with tears in his eyes from Rab'ia Square. Some of the words that he said had such power behind them:

"I do not give my condolences to the martyrs. I WILL NOT. My young daughter did not give her soul today in vain. Herself and her friends. Rather I congratulate them as brides of Firdaws al-A'la. Al-Sisi and his men cannot use the fear of the army, snipers, and spies, against us. That time is gone. That era is gone..."

May Allah accept the shuhada' and grant them their greatest bushra (glad-tiding) today, amīn.
Afghanistan: Taliban surround Kabul after seizing control of all other major cities.

Ashraf Ghani is in emergency talks as the Taliban surrounds Kabul but says they have no plans to take the capital ‘by force’.
Reports: Taliban negotiators are heading to presidential palace to prepare for 'transfer' of power

A Taliban spokesman said earlier that militants are “awaiting a peaceful transfer of Kabul city” after they entered the capital’s outskirts.

Suhail Shaheen made the comment to Qatar’s Al-Jazeera English satellite news channel after Afghan officials said the Taliban were in the districts of Kalakan, Qarabagh and Paghman in the capital.

Afghan Interior Minister: Kabul will shift power to a “transitional administration”.
Taliban | Afghanistan:

Journalists on the ground in Kabul, say they are “witnessing government forces put on plainclothes and walk away from their posts, heading home to find loved ones. Streets are peaceful, mostly empty.”

This comes further to reports that Taliban forces are not expecting a great deal of resistance from government forces within Kabul.
Reports claim that Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has left the country bound for Tajikistan. Acting interior minister has said that peaceful transfer of power to a transitional government is being prepared.

Meanwhile, a Taliban spokesman says their fighters have been ordered to enter the city to prevent looting. They were told earlier to refrain from violence and allow safe passage for anyone wanting to leave.

The Taliban have captured more territory, including the former US airbase at Bagram and the central Bamiyan province. Eyewitnesses say the militants met little resistance along the way to the capital.

The Taliban are claiming to have taken over the presidential palace in Kabul.

"Palace employees were then reportedly told to leave and the palace was [left] empty," the aides said. The Taliban later told the Reuters news agency that they had taken it over.

Shocking video from Kabul Airport shows several Afghans chasing down a US Air Force plane as it takes off, with some reportedly falling to their death while clinging to the plane.
Hamas: “We congratulate the Muslim Afghan people for the defeat of the American occupation on all Afghan lands, and we congratulate the Taliban movement and its brave leadership on this victory, which culminated its long struggle over the past 20 years.”
RIA news agency, quoting a Russian embassy official who in turn quoted witnesses, said Ghani fled with 4 cars "full of money" and had to leave some money "lying on the tarmac," Reuters reported, adding it "could not independently confirm the veracity of his account immediately."
What an amazing amnesty! All your penalty charges have been cleared!

Imagine that you have accumulated an innumerable number of fines (like traffic and parking tickets) for an equally innumerable number of contraventions, where you were unequivocally in the wrong! In fact, imagine that this mountain of fines totalled hundreds of thousands of pounds. But suddenly the local authorities are offering a special amnesty for anyone who merely completes 24 hours of community service for them.

Would you let this opportunity pass you by and face a debt that you might be paying back for the rest of your life?

Would you not encourage all of your loved ones, families and friends to grab this offer?

What if those contraventions could lead to a severe punishment, where you would be imprisoned in a maximum-security prison with the worst prison guards whose duty it is to hand out a daily dose of torture? What if that punishment entailed the burning of your foreheads with heated metal bars daily for ten or more years?! A’ūdhubillāh!

Would any sane person aware of such an amnesty to avoid these punishments, ignore such an offer?

No way! Impossible!

My dear brothers and sisters, Allah ﷻ – The Most Forgiving, The Most Merciful and The Most Just – is offering us an amazing amnesty for all of our contraventions and sins that we have committed throughout the previous year.

How you might ask? By just fasting one day! One day! That’s all!

This day being the Day of ‘Ashūrā – the 10th of Muharram 1443 – which corresponds to this coming Thursday 19th August 2021.

‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah ﷻ be pleased with him) said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fasted on the day of ‘Ashūrā and told the people to fast, they said, “O Messenger of Allah, this is a day that is venerated by the Jews and Christians.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Next year, if Allah wills, we will fast on the ninth day.” But by the time the following year came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had passed away.
(Narrated by Muslim)

May Allah ﷻ have mercy on us to be with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Paradise!

The Prophet ﷺ also recommended that you fast one day before it, in order to distinguish our fasting from the fasting of other nations. Some scholars such as Imām Ahmad and others recommended fasting three days if there is a doubt on precisely identifying the day of ‘Ashūrā. Therefore, this hijri year 1443, we recommend that you fast this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday which corresponds to the 18th, 19th and 20th of August 2021.

In fact, the more you fast, the better, in this blessed and sacred month of Muharram where the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “The best fast after Ramadān is the month of Allah, Muharram.”
(Narrated by Muslim)

Finally, I would like to say that this offer of amnesty from Allah ﷻ is not for us to act carelessly for all of our lives in the belief that we will gain its forgiveness by merely fasting ‘Ashūrā or the day of ‘Arafah. To act in such a way defeats the very essence of a sincere desire for forgiveness from Allah ﷻ.

May Allah ﷻ accept all our good deeds and forgive all our sins and shortcomings!

- Sh Dr Haitham al-Haddad
Is this magnificent legacy that we have inherited limited to following a single tradition of his in fasting the day of `Āshūra? Or does our right to Mūsā (ʿalayhi al-Salām) extend beyond such a limited understanding?

Many are comparing Macron’s proposed hijab ban in France to those societies that force certain coverings in public.

But there is a false equivalence here.

Every civilised society has always had a minimum covering in public (not maximum). Those norms/rules that force us to cover are nowhere near as depraved as those that force someone to uncover - especially minors.

If I were Taliban I’d be offended at being compared to Macron. That’s a new level of sick!
