Things You Didn’t Know About President Morsi

3) The adhān takes precedence over his speech

When Morsi was delivering an important speech he was suddenly made aware that prayer time fell. Instead of ignoring the adhān and continuing his speech or even just staying silent for a minute – Morsi loudly and proudly repeated the adhān. The effect was electrifying and a generation of pious young Muslims saw that even their leaders submitted to the words of Allāh.

"They prevented me from a copy of the Musḥaf (Qur’ān) whilst in my prison cell. And they forgot that I have been a hāfiẓ of the Qur’ān for over 30 years. I just wanted to touch it..."
Manhood is in Stances

On 17th June 2019, President Morsi took his final breath on this Earth, and though he lived his final years as a wrongfully imprisoned man, his life story can be summarised by the Arabic proverb:

الرجال مواقف

"Manhood is in a number of stances."

He ruled Egypt as the lowest paid President in the world, whilst managing to increase agricultural exports by 20%, reducing the Central Bank’s deficit by 45%, and raising the economic growth to 2.4%.

Moreover, it was President Morsi who answered the cries of the Syrians, severing Egypt’s ties with the bloody regime and exclaiming “we hear your call, Syria” to all hearers, and supported its revolution.

No matter what the situation required, he never swayed from his principles, staying true to himself and his Creator.

As Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) says in the Qur’ān:

مِّنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ رِجَالٌ صَدَقُوا مَا عَاهَدُوا اللَّهَ عَلَيْهِ فَمِنْهُم مَّن قَضَىٰ نَحْبَهُ وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَنتَظِرُ وَمَا بَدَّلُوا تَبْدِيلًا

“There are men among the believers who honoured their pledge to God: some of them have fulfilled it by death, and some are still waiting. And they did not change in the least.”
(Al-Qur'ān 33:23)

Morsi remained defiant and upright, smiling in the face of his enemies, not changing in the least. Even after he was deposed by the Egyptian military in July 2013, for which many have cited as the cause of his eventual demise, he did not change.

The Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) said, as a funeral procession passed by, that a person is of two types when they die:

مُسْتَرِيحٌ وَمُسْتَرَاحٌ مِنْهُ

“He is relieved, and others are relieved of him”

When the companions asked what he meant by this, he said:

“The believing slave is relieved of the hardships and troubles of this world, and the people, the land, the trees, and the animals are relieved of the immoral slave.”
(Al-Nasā’ī)

The reactions to his death – in the form of likes, retweets, shares, comments, and donations – as well as the inhumane conditions he was trialled with in this world, have shown that if anything, he is the relieved one inshā'Allāh.

4) The worlds lowest paid leader

We get so used to seeing the sickening figures that business moguls, sports stars and so-called celebrities pull in that we expect our political leaders to be earning mega bucks as well. We’re not shocked when we see former Prime Ministers or Presidents become millionaires on the lucrative speakers circuit. Morsi could have taken the opportunity of being President to build a nest-egg for himself and his family. After all, he still lived in a rented flat. Maybe he could buy himself a house? It turns out that President Morsi was the lowest paid world leader. Read that again. In. The. World. He stipulated that his salary would be $10,000 for the entire year. At the time of his kidnapping, it transpired that he had actually not drawn any salary at all. He had been working for free.

The secret to success is sincerity
Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn. Indeed, to Allāh we belong, and to Him we are returning.

Mufti Mohammad Naeem has passed to meet his Lord (subḥānahu wa taʿālā), following a heart attack on the way to hospital. May Allāh have mercy upon him.

Mufti Naeem was one of Pakistan’s renowned scholars, the founder, and the chancellor of the International Binoria Islamic University Karachi.

May Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) expand Mufti Naeem’s grave, shower His infinite mercy upon him, forgive his sins, and grant his family patience.
