The Worst can become the Best

Often, the people who work the strongest against Islām, they become the strongest for Islām after their conversion. Our history is littered with stories of such people, from the likes of Khālid b. Walīd, to a more recent example, like Malcolm X.

Though these men lived in different eras and amongst different communities, they were men whose contributions to the spreading of Islām has been etched and well-remembered in our rich history.

That is why ʿUmar b. Al-Khattāb (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) said:

"Sometimes the people with the worst past, create the best future.”

ʿUmar (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) himself was a living manifestation of these words. Before he accepted Islām, he was from amongst the elite in society, a well-connected, well-rounded, and well-respected individual from the Quraish.

However, he was also heavily against the Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) and the message of Islām; so much so, that he had planned to kill the Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) on the very day he converted to Islām.

By hearing the verse of the Qur’ān:

‎إِنَّنِي أَنَا اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنَا فَاعْبُدْنِي وَأَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ لِذِكْرِي

“Indeed, I am Allāh . There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.”
(Al-Qur’ān 20:14)

He (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) exclaimed:

“Surely, this is the Word of Allāh. Take me to Muhammad (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam).”
(The Sealed Nectar)

How he became Muslim is well-known to us all, but perhaps what may be overlooked is the Duʿā’ that the Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) made that jump started the legacy of ʿUmar (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu).

The Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) made the Duʿā’:

‎اللَّهُمَّ أَعِزَّ الْإِسْلَامَ بِأَحَبِّ هَذَيْنِ الرَّجُلَيْنِ إِلَيْكَ بِأَبِي جَهْلٍ أَوْ بِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ

“O Allāh, strengthen Islām with one of two men whom you love more: Abū Jahl or ʿUmar b. Al-Khattāb.”

Ibn ʿUmar, the one who reported the hadīth, said:

‎وَكَانَ أَحَبَّهُمَا إِلَيْهِ عُمَرُ

“The most beloved of the two was ʿUmar.”
(Sunan al-Tirmidhi)

This was the turning point in the life of ʿUmar (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu). Perhaps, this Ramaḍān could be the turning point in your own lives, In Shā’ Allāh.

Death toll continues to rise as Israeli warplanes and gunboats target areas in the Gaza Strip.

Gaza’s military have responded to the Zionist bombing in which at least six Palestinians have been martyred so far.

#GazaUnderAttack
In Light of ‘Israel’s’ Ramaḍān Offensive

As the whole Muslim world prepares for the Month of Mercy, the Month of Worship, and the Month of Giving, the Zionist Regime has nostalgically marked the same occasion by launching a campaign of indiscriminate murder and ravage on the Gaza Strip.

As of yet, 13 Palestinians have been martyred, including a pregnant women, her daughter, and her unborn child alongside dozens of injured. The damage to civilian infrastructure is at an enormous scale.

But as we enter Ramaḍān, we should recall that this is not the first time that the savage Zionist entity has chosen to assault during seasons where it deems its opponents as ‘occupied' or 'unprepared', military or sentimentally.

We remind the 'Israeli' savages and terrorists that just as Ramaḍān is the month of spiritual prepararion, it is also the month of Islamic military triumph, the month of zealous resistance, the Month of Martyrdom, and that of unparalleled connection to the unseen realm of Divine Intervention. It is the month that the doors of the heavens are opened. The month in which the angel Jibrīl (ʿalayhi al-Salām) and the greatest angelic troops descended to fight with the Muslims at the Great Battle of Badr; the month in which Makkah was conquered from polytheistic idolatory and rights were returned to its due owners; and the month in which the Mamālīk shattered the formidable and unstoppable Mongolian assault in a place called ʿAin Jālūt - a place that is very close to Gaza.

For them, there is no worse time to select. Just a few months ago, they were shuffling to keep their government from collapsing after being trounced and humiliated the last time that it met Gaza forces near the end of 2018. Who can forget how in its last major Ramaḍān encounter of 2012, 20,000 Palestinian soldiers took on some 180,000 active military personnel and half a million Zionist reservists, including the paramilitary 'Golani Brigade' that was sent back sobbing and with stories to tell?

The Zionist's characterisation as the most cowardly army in the world is far from stereotypical. It is one of the few that paradoxically tries to win by seeking to create Gazan public resentment towards their defenders, by massacring that very public from the air. In 2014, it killed more than 2,000 civilians but its troops fled like pigeons at Gaza's perimeter and even the Mediterranean Sea uncovered some surprises.

Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) says in Surah al-Tawbah:

"Say: Do you await for us but one of two most excellent things (victory or martyrdom)? And we await for you that Allāh will afflict you with punishment from Himself or by our hands. So wait; we too will wait with you."

(Al-Qur’ān 9:52)

So, as we enter Ramaḍān, be with the People of Gaza. Reinforce, then, through your Duʿā’ and in every way you can. May Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) grant them patience and victory, and may He heal their wounds and accept their martyrs in the highest abode. Āmīn.

If we really look at ourselves, we will only come to the conclusion that we are heedless of tying to maximise our potential for this blessed month every year. We are very neglectful of its blessings and we rarely make use of them, yet they only come once a year.
