Ireland received almost three times the number of asylum applications in the month of January this year compared to January 2021 according to official figures. This was before the Ukrainian war started.
In January, there were 392 requests for asylum compared to 138 in the same period for last year.
The top countries of origin:
Somalia 18.9%
Nigeria 18.4%
Georgia 12.5%
Algeria 7.4%
Afghanistan 6.1%
Other 36.7%
The Sun reported almost 3,000 asylum applications were made in the months of November, December & January in total.
Last year, Integration Minister Roderic O’Gorman promised to spend half a billion euro constructing 'own door' accommodation for all asylum seekers arriving in Ireland regardless of the merit of their claims.
Up to 90% of asylum seekers have failed their asylum applications in past years, but most are never deported.
Minister David Stanton has stated the average number of family members refugees applied to bring to Ireland between 1996 & 2015 was 20.

>It is fitting, given that five of its 15 members have a direct personal involvement in the legal system, that the first item to jump out from the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission’s latest missive on racism and discrimination is a clarion call for “the need to extend access to Legal aid for people facing discrimination.”
>This might be completely appropriate given that there are no greater beneficiaries of the heroic struggle against racism and discrimination than, well, the legal profession.

Worth transcribing the third facebook comment here from a recent thread.
The author claims a majority of the "Ukrainian refugees" being put up in Cabra are of the non-European variety — men who were on work and study visas in Ukraine.
They are now conveniently "without documents".
She also accuses Sinn Féin of hiding the truth, and says homeless Irish people are being directed to leave their emergency accommodation to make room for these "Ukrainian women and children".
Sending non-Ukrainians back to their own countries would save a lot room and resources. I don't know why the State isn't trying to organise travel arrangements for them (I do).
Some punctuation has been added:
>Councillor Noleen Reilly, what are you lying for? Every time your lips move it's another lie from you.
>Tell your constituents exactly what's happening because none of your dirty cut-throat comrades bothered to inform us in Cabra what our centre was being used for, and it's a far cry from the UKRAINIAN women and children we were told were coming into our country.
>It's predominantly MEN OF COLOUR IN CABRA who we've been told were only working or studying there when they "had to flee undocumented".
>Now you tell me why these people have to be accommodated by a country already on its knees, and also why our own people in homeless hubs, hotels, and B&Bs were given days notice to leave where they are and back into tents to accommodate for this.
>How dare any of you call yourselves republicans. And men and women of 1916 must be standing on their heads in their graves looking at what is carrying on their name.
>You are an absolute shambles and the worst opposition in history of the state. I'm ashamed to say I carried a pen to a voting centre to vote for you.
>I know what I'd like to do with that pen right now though. TELL THE TRUTH FOR ONCE. IT'S NOT THAT HARD. YOU GET CAUGHT ALL THE TIME. HOW YOU ARE GOING IS STILL BEYOND ME.
