✔️ The correct answer to yesterday's quiz: Swift

🧑🏻‍💻 It's a general-purpose programming language, accessible to beginners and powerful to experts. The creator of the language is Apple. According to the statements of official representatives, Swift was laid in the NeXT platform, which was released in the early 90s. The platform became the progenitor of modern iOS and macOS.

🎉 This year the language turns 10 years old! At WWDC24, a new version of Swift 6 was unveiled.

💻 It includes compatibility with C and C++, improved debugging, secure data transfer in processes, fast item processing, cloud tools, Swift Assist with AI for programming, Swift Testing for code exploration, a fresh SwiftUI, and new features in Swift Data.

📱 The new SwiftUI features based on the new Swift 6 can be seen in the presentation video that Apple published for developers. From this material, we can see what UI innovations we will soon see inside Apple's fresh systems and third-party apps. Developers will find it useful to take a closer look at the new features to enhance the capabilities of their apps.

🔜 P.S. We'll tell you about the new Swift Assist tomorrow.

🤖 AI for programming

Swift Assist, a new feature in Xcode 16, serves as a companion for all of a developer’s coding tasks, so they can focus on higher-level problems and solutions.

・The feature integrates seamlessly into Xcode and supports the latest software development kits (SDKs) and Swift language features, so developers will always get the latest features that fit perfectly into their projects.

・With Swift Assist, tasks such as exploring new infrastructures and experimenting with new ideas are accomplished in just one voice request. The Assist uses a powerful model that runs in the cloud. It is designed to be confidential and secure for developers. The code is only used to process requests and is never stored on servers, and Apple will not use it to train machine learning models.

🔜 Swift Assist will be coming to Xcode 16 later this year.

🖥 Learn more about enhancements to code completion, diagnostics, and Xcode Previews.

❤️ Leak confirms Apple's work on 'Home Accessory'

Code discovered on Apple's backend by MacRumors confirms Apple is indeed working on a long-rumored home accessory in addition to the HomePod and Apple TV.

The device runs on a chip A18 and has support for a variation of tvOS, probably homeOS – a new system that may be intended for a device that combines a display and HomePod. The model number of such a device is as follows:
・HomeAccessory17,1

For reference, the HomePod has an AudioAccessory ID, meaning it will be something brand new. And with the A18 chip, a device with the working name HomeAccessory could have the power to run Apple Intelligence.

This also converges with early rumors that HomePods won't get support for the new Siri due to unsuitable hardware.

Also found in the code are the numbers of two previously unreleased Apple TV models running on A15 and expected in 2024. It's likely, but not certain, that these are new cheaper models:
・AppleTV14.4
・AppleTV14.5

🤖 ChatGPT app for macOS raised privacy concerns for storing conversations in plain text but later it was fixed

💻 Last week OpenAl' became available to all macOS users. The app was first announced ahead of Apple's WWDC 2024 in June, where the companies jointly announced integrations between OpenAl's chatbot and Apple's operating systems for iPhone, iPad and Mac.

🖥 Now on the latter platform, users can quickly call up ChatGPT by using the keyboard combination of Option + Space after installing the new ChatGPT app.

😯 Later it was announced that ChatGPT for Mac saved conversations as plain text. Anyone could read the story. After the problem became known, OpenAI released an update that encrypted the conversations. It is now impossible to access them.

✔️ Make sure you update your ChatGPT app to the latest version.

Everything new in the third ‌‌iOS 📱 beta

🆕 In new third version iOS 18 beta there are additional tweaks like Dark Mode icons, the Photos app, emoji in Messages, and more, with Apple appearing to be preparing for the launch of AI.

・Now there are ‌Dark Mode‌ icons for many third-party apps like Facebook, Telegram, Slack, Notion, YouTube, and more. Apple appears to be adding the ‌Dark Mode‌ icons automatically to apps that have icons with a handful colors.

Select button is added for choosing multiple images to the main ‌Photos‌ interface, so there is no longer a need to swipe down to get to the Select button. With this change, the Search button is now just a magnifying glass, but it is highlighted blue to make it stand out more.

・In Messages, emoji, Memoji, and stickers have all been combined into one interface, which can be navigated using the tiny icons at the bottom of the display. Both stickers and Memoji can be created from this interface, and you can use stickers right in your messages like you can use emoji (this works with non-moving stickers only). Emoji themselves are displayed larger than before, so you see more detail but fewer characters and there are more emoji and stickers displayed at once in the Recent section.

・There also appeared a dynamic version of the ‌iOS 18‌ wallpaper that transitions through different colors based on the time of day.

・The Flashlight has a larger and more intuitive interface for changing the brightness and the spread of the LED Flash used for the Flashlight feature.

・The interface for RCS in the Messages section of the Settings app has changed. Rather than just showing up as an on/off toggle, it is now a tap-in menu that provides some additional context. Apple explains that sending and receiving messages with ‌RCS‌ uses wireless data, and cellular network identifiers may be shared with carriers and their partners. Though it is unclear if ‌RCS‌ is working outside of the United States.

💬 Know of a new feature in ‌iOS 18‌ beta 3 that is left out? Share in the comments below.
