๐Ÿ’ธ Apple plans to produce AirPods with in-built cameras by 2026

ใƒปChinese analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared an update on Project 'B798' โ€“ a variation of the AirPods headphones with a built-in camera. The headphones will have an IR camera similar to the Face ID sensor in the iPhone, and this could be used with Apple Vision Pro, among others, to improve the user's tracking in space.

ใƒปFor example, when a user watches video with the Vision Pro, but listens to audio in AirPods with IR sensors โ€“ when turning their head, the audio source will move in the same direction within the space that is projected to them. This would be some new variation of the Spatial Audio feature, at a more advanced level. Also, IR sensors in the headphones could give the functionality of gesture control in the air, the company also has a patent for such a thing.

ใƒปThe supplier of components for such AirPods is Foxconn, Apple's longtime partner. The companies are discussing supplying 18 to 20 million IR sensors by 2026, which is 9 to 10 million pairs of AirPods. It is not yet known exactly what model it will be.

๐Ÿ’ธ New AirPods Pro features in iOS 18

New features for the AirPods Pro should arrive after the release of iOS ๐Ÿ“ฑ and will be available on both the first- and second-generation models.

๐Ÿ—บ Head gestures to interact with Siri
This feature will allow users to answer or decline calls with a simple nod or shake of the head. Additionally, Siri Interactions will enable users to handle calls, messages, notifications, and more, all without speaking.

๐Ÿ’จ Voice isolation for better calling
Apple's iPhones have a calling feature that makes the user's voice clearer to the person they're speaking to, even in a noisy environment. With iOS 18, Apple is adding Voice Isolation to the AirPods Pro to reduce loud background sounds. Typically, the microphones on AirPods Pro pick up a wide range of environmental sounds, such as wind around the caller. However, with Voice Isolation, machine learning will identify these sounds, block out ambient noise nd prioritise your voice for clearer communication.

๐ŸŽฎ Personalized Spatial Audio for gaming
This featire will offer the immersive audio experience customers enjoy while listening to music or watching movies and shows. Additionally, game developers can integrate spatial audio into their games for a more immersive audio experience.

๐Ÿ”‰ More control over Adaptive Audio Control
Second-generation AirPods Pro feature Adaptive Audio, known as Adaptive Noise Control, which adjusts sound and active noise cancellation based on your environment. Currently, Adaptive Audio is an all-or-nothing setting, but Apple may introduce a "Customize Adaptive Audio" menu that may allow users to fine-tune the setting to permit more or less noise.

๐ŸฆปHearing Aid mode for improved accessibility
AirPods Pro may receive a new "hearing aid mode" with the release of iOS 18 later this year. While AirPods Pro already include a Conversation Boost feature that enhance the volume and clarity of voices directly in front of the wearer, Apple has not yet marketed the earbuds as a hearing aid device.

๐Ÿ“ฑ code suggests all iPhone 16 models will use same A18 chip

๐Ÿ“ฑCode references found in Apple's backend reveal that the company is working on five new iPhone models that will likely use the same A18 chip.

The code references were shared with MacRumors. They reveal the following iPhone identifiers:
ใƒป iPhone17,1
ใƒป iPhone17,2
ใƒป iPhone17,3
ใƒป iPhone17,4
ใƒป iPhone17,5

Apple typically uses identifiers that line up with the chip used. For example, the iPhone models with an A14 chip have a 13,x identifier. iPhone models with an A15 chip have 14,x identifier, and so on.

This year's iPhone 15 lineup has the following identifiers:
ใƒปโ€Œ iPhone 15โ€Œ - โ€ŒiPhone 15โ€Œ,4
ใƒป iPhone 15โ€Œ Plus - โ€ŒiPhone 15โ€Œ,5
ใƒป iPhone 15 Pro - โ€ŒiPhone 16โ€Œ,1
ใƒป iPhone 15 Proโ€Œ Max - โ€ŒiPhone 16โ€Œ,2

The Pro models with the A17 chip have 16,x identifiers; whereas, the basic models with A16 have 15,x identifiers.

If Apple continues with its current numbering scheme, all new iPhone models will likely feature the A18 chip. The first four models expected are the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The fifth model is uncertain but could potentially be the long-awaited new iPhone SE.

Apple might choose to use the same chip across all models to power the introduction of its new AI capabilities. However, it is anticipated that the Pro and Pro Max models will feature a slightly more powerful version of the chip, possibly an A18 Pro with additional GPU cores.

๐Ÿ”œ The iPhone 16 lineup will be unveiled at a special event in September.

โœ”๏ธ The correct answer to yesterday's quiz: Swift

๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ’ป It's a general-purpose programming language, accessible to beginners and powerful to experts. The creator of the language is Apple. According to the statements of official representatives, Swift was laid in the NeXT platform, which was released in the early 90s. The platform became the progenitor of modern iOS and macOS.

๐ŸŽ‰ This year the language turns 10 years old! At WWDC24, a new version of Swift 6 was unveiled.

๐Ÿ’ป It includes compatibility with C and C++, improved debugging, secure data transfer in processes, fast item processing, cloud tools, Swift Assist with AI for programming, Swift Testing for code exploration, a fresh SwiftUI, and new features in Swift Data.

๐Ÿ“ฑ The new SwiftUI features based on the new Swift 6 can be seen in the presentation video that Apple published for developers. From this material, we can see what UI innovations we will soon see inside Apple's fresh systems and third-party apps. Developers will find it useful to take a closer look at the new features to enhance the capabilities of their apps.

๐Ÿ”œ P.S. We'll tell you about the new Swift Assist tomorrow.

๐Ÿค– AI for programming

ใƒปSwift Assist, a new feature in Xcode 16, serves as a companion for all of a developerโ€™s coding tasks, so they can focus on higher-level problems and solutions.

ใƒปThe feature integrates seamlessly into Xcode and supports the latest software development kits (SDKs) and Swift language features, so developers will always get the latest features that fit perfectly into their projects.

ใƒปWith Swift Assist, tasks such as exploring new infrastructures and experimenting with new ideas are accomplished in just one voice request. The Assist uses a powerful model that runs in the cloud. It is designed to be confidential and secure for developers. The code is only used to process requests and is never stored on servers, and Apple will not use it to train machine learning models.

๐Ÿ”œ Swift Assist will be coming to Xcode 16 later this year.

๐Ÿ–ฅ Learn more about enhancements to code completion, diagnostics, and Xcode Previews.

โค๏ธ Leak confirms Apple's work on 'Home Accessory'

Code discovered on Apple's backend by MacRumors confirms Apple is indeed working on a long-rumored home accessory in addition to the HomePod and Apple TV.

The device runs on a chip A18 and has support for a variation of tvOS, probably homeOS โ€“ a new system that may be intended for a device that combines a display and HomePod. The model number of such a device is as follows:
ใƒปHomeAccessory17,1

For reference, the HomePod has an AudioAccessory ID, meaning it will be something brand new. And with the A18 chip, a device with the working name HomeAccessory could have the power to run Apple Intelligence.

This also converges with early rumors that HomePods won't get support for the new Siri due to unsuitable hardware.

Also found in the code are the numbers of two previously unreleased Apple TV models running on A15 and expected in 2024. It's likely, but not certain, that these are new cheaper models:
ใƒปAppleTV14.4
ใƒปAppleTV14.5

๐Ÿค– ChatGPT app for macOS raised privacy concerns for storing conversations in plain text but later it was fixed

๐Ÿ’ป Last week OpenAl' became available to all macOS users. The app was first announced ahead of Apple's WWDC 2024 in June, where the companies jointly announced integrations between OpenAl's chatbot and Apple's operating systems for iPhone, iPad and Mac.

๐Ÿ–ฅ Now on the latter platform, users can quickly call up ChatGPT by using the keyboard combination of Option + Space after installing the new ChatGPT app.

๐Ÿ˜ฏ Later it was announced that ChatGPT for Mac saved conversations as plain text. Anyone could read the story. After the problem became known, OpenAI released an update that encrypted the conversations. It is now impossible to access them.

โœ”๏ธ Make sure you update your ChatGPT app to the latest version.

Everything new in the third โ€Œโ€ŒiOS ๐Ÿ“ฑ beta

๐Ÿ†• In new third version iOS 18 beta there are additional tweaks like Dark Mode icons, the Photos app, emoji in Messages, and more, with Apple appearing to be preparing for the launch of AI.

ใƒปNow there are โ€ŒDark Modeโ€Œ icons for many third-party apps like Facebook, Telegram, Slack, Notion, YouTube, and more. Apple appears to be adding the โ€ŒDark Modeโ€Œ icons automatically to apps that have icons with a handful colors.

ใƒปSelect button is added for choosing multiple images to the main โ€ŒPhotosโ€Œ interface, so there is no longer a need to swipe down to get to the Select button. With this change, the Search button is now just a magnifying glass, but it is highlighted blue to make it stand out more.

ใƒปIn Messages, emoji, Memoji, and stickers have all been combined into one interface, which can be navigated using the tiny icons at the bottom of the display. Both stickers and Memoji can be created from this interface, and you can use stickers right in your messages like you can use emoji (this works with non-moving stickers only). Emoji themselves are displayed larger than before, so you see more detail but fewer characters and there are more emoji and stickers displayed at once in the Recent section.

ใƒปThere also appeared a dynamic version of the โ€ŒiOS 18โ€Œ wallpaper that transitions through different colors based on the time of day.

ใƒปThe Flashlight has a larger and more intuitive interface for changing the brightness and the spread of the LED Flash used for the Flashlight feature.

ใƒปThe interface for RCS in the Messages section of the Settings app has changed. Rather than just showing up as an on/off toggle, it is now a tap-in menu that provides some additional context. Apple explains that sending and receiving messages with โ€ŒRCSโ€Œ uses wireless data, and cellular network identifiers may be shared with carriers and their partners. Though it is unclear if โ€ŒRCSโ€Œ is working outside of the United States.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Know of a new feature in โ€ŒiOS 18โ€Œ beta 3 that is left out? Share in the comments below.
