🏠No story for smart home Apple Intelligence just yet

πŸ€– Unfortunately, all the new Apple Intelligence and Siri features will not be available on the Apple TV or HomePod, arguably Apple’s most voice-orientated device. It’s unclear if Apple Intelligence support for those platforms will be available later, or if new generations of hardware will be required to run the various on-device models.

πŸ‘₯ Nevertheless, among upgrades to HomeKit and the Home app there is the addition of guest user access, allowing you to let visitors control your smart accessories temporarily, without adding them as a full permanent member of your Home. You can choose how and when guests are allowed to access your home. They can only control these accessories while they are physically located at your address, so there’s no risk of tampering from afar.

πŸ€ͺ Vacuum cleaner integration will be available in the Home app, starting later this year.
It will support features like turning your vacuum on and off, changing the cleaning mode, and reading current charge status. Users will be able to ask Siri to control your vacuum to start a cleaning session.

πŸ”Œ Finally, the Home app will allow users who live in homes supplied by participating Pacific Gas and Electric Company customers to see a tally of their electricity usage right inside the Home app. It will be possible to view usage in peak and off-peak times, and compare changes in your usage over time. By the way, if you are an eligible customer, you will be able to connect your account to the Home app in an update to iOS 18 available later this year.

πŸ’» Apple launches 'Help Me Choose' website for finding the right Mac

πŸ–₯ Apple yesterday debuted a new Mac website that's designed to help potential customers find the ideal Mac. The "Help Me Choose" site asks users a few questions and then suggests the Mac that will best meet the user's needs.

❔Questions include what the Mac will be used for, necessary day-to-day essentials, info on the user's creative pursuits, the need for portability, which peripherals will be used, and budget.

πŸ’Έ Apple's algorithm for suggesting a Mac takes all of these factors into account, and it doesn't just present buyers with base configurations. It suggests upgrades to memory and storage that would be useful, and it will also present options if your selected budget is a little flexible.

β˜‘οΈ You can answer the questions and share your result with us in comments.

πŸ”— Apple reportedly suspends work on Vision Pro 2

πŸ“° As The Information reports, Apple has suspended work on the second-generation Vision Pro headset to singularly focus on a cheaper model.

🧊 Rumour has it that fewer and fewer of the company's engineers have been involved in the development of its flagship second-generation mixed reality helmet in recent months, and now the Vision Pro 2 project has been completely frozen for the sake of developing a cheaper counterpart.

πŸ’΅ Previously, it was assumed that the Vision Pro 2 should be sold along with a more affordable model, but it seems that Apple's immediate plans now include releasing only a version with a price of about $1500 (remember, the Vision Pro starts at $3500).

βš–οΈ At the same time, according to the source, Apple is still struggling to find solutions when developing the "budget" variant, which would allow to significantly reduce the price, but at the same time do not significantly degrade the user experience, as well as reduce the weight of the device.

πŸ“† Maybe later the development of a flagship model will resume, but this does not seem to be in the immediate plans.

πŸ“Έ Apple has shared a preview of Apple's first Malaysian store

πŸ”œ The Exchange TRX is opening tomorrow!

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ By the way, it was reported about the company's plans to open at least three more stores in China. This means that the company plans in the future to cover the entire territory of the country with a network of its stores. Thus the number may exceed 60, and the total scale will become comparable to the coverage in the United States.

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί Apple Intelligence won’t launch in EU in 2024 due to antitrust regulation

・Apple will not roll out its Apple Intelligence AI product and three other new features to the European Union when it releases them later in 2024, the company said, due to privacy concerns stemming from the Digital Markets Act.

・The DMA requires that services be interoperable across platforms, to promote competition and stymie the β€œgatekeeper” effect that some large companies, including Apple, have.

・In a statement to Financial Times, Apple said that there will be a delay as it works to figure out how to make the new functionality compatible with the European Union's competition rules.

Due to the regulatory uncertainties brought about by the Digital Markets Act, we do not believe that we will be able to roll out three of these [new] features - iPhone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen Sharing enhancements, and Apple Intelligence - to our EU users this year.

πŸ“Έ First photos and video of the new iPhone 16 steel battery

The data was shared by well-known insider Majin Bu. Judging by the disassembly of the battery in the video, this is a real battery, not a dummy in a metal case.

In May it came to light that the iPhone 16 battery will have a steel body, and the thickness of the device will become significantly smaller.

The capacity of the new battery is 3,597 mAh, which is 248 mAh more than the iPhone 15. The numbers are engraved directly on the metal surface of the case. This design is presumably to improve heat dissipation from the battery to avoid the overheating problems that plagued the iPhone 15 series after launch.

πŸ”— Apple not to stop working on Vision Pro 2, but to focus on a second simpler prototype available

πŸ“° Contrary to rumors from The Information, which reported this week that Apple has halted work on the Vision Pro 2 – Mark Gurman on Bloomberg has different data.

πŸ”— According to him, work on the new version has not stopped, but has been scaled back for now. The next-generation Pro version is less of a priority right now. But the prototype of the model under the number "N109" is already inside the company. According to an insider – the new version is very similar to the current model, but includes a faster processor and improvements to the external cameras. The company has been looking for ways to make the next version lighter and more user-friendly, but it will still take more time. According to the latest reports, the "N109" project won't be released until the end of 2026 at the earliest.

πŸ₯½ Now the focus of the development team on a simpler version – the prototype number "N107", which presumably will be called Apple Vision. That is, it's a junior version that the company is considering making dependent on a connection to a Mac or iPhone. This will allow Apple to save on chips (there may be only one instead of two) and on components necessary for greater autonomy of the device. The "N107" prototype has no EyeSight display and simpler internal screens. Otherwise, it will be the same device format with all the software features. So the company wants to make a device roughly priced like the iPhone Pro version.

πŸ•Ά Gurman also said that Apple is still working on an augmented reality-only version of the glasses. By design, these would be lightweight everyday glasses that users could wear like regular sunglasses or medical glasses. But for now, it's still technically feasible to realize at the level the company envisions - even more expensive than the Vision Pro.
