🧠 Most iPhone users won't get Apple Intelligence – AI proves finicky about hardware

Apple Intelligence will make 📱 devices the smartest ever.
It will allow users to ask the system to paraphrase text, summarise messages or emails, generate images and emoji. The Siri assistant will also get a significant improvement – it will now be able to understand the context of what is shown on the screen of the user's device, as well as provide advanced control over various aspects of its operation, and will be able to interact with apps.

🤖 The company has partnered to integrate the popular chatbot ChatGPT into Siri. Users will control when ChatGPT is used and will be asked before any of information is shared. Anyone can access ChatGPT for free, without creating an account.

However, not all users will be able to take advantage of the new AI feature due to hardware limitations even after upgrading to iOS 18, iPadOS 18 or macOS 15. Since some AI features require local processing, the following hardware is required for them to work:
・iPhone based on A17 Pro chip or newer (iPhone 15 Pro at least)
・iPad based on Apple M1 chip or newer
・Mac computers with Apple M1 chip or later

📱 Samsung as usual mocks 📱

Recently, Samsung Mobile US official X handle has posted some stuff that directly trolls Apple’s lack of feature availability. In the first post, it said “Adding Apple doesn’t make it a new or groundbreaking welcome to AI. With this statement, the Korean giant mocked Apple’s absence of AI power features.

In the next post, Samsung counts the basic functionality of moving application icons from one place to another; it says this function has been available on Galaxy devices since 2010.

🧠 What can new Siri be useful for?


🗺 Siri has finally become useful! It's powered by ChatGPT-4o and remembers the context of the conversation. 🪙 Apple isn’t paying OpenAI to use the chatbot

🤖 The pact with OpenAI is part of a broader push by Apple into AI. The iPhone maker laid out the plans during the Keynote, showing off AI features for the iPhone, iPad and Mac. However, the non-ChatGPT capabilities — branded as Apple Intelligence — were designed by the company in-house.

📰 As sources told Bloomberg, Apple has not started paying OpenAI anything for integration into its own systems, and believes that promoting the ChatGPT product to hundreds of millions of its devices in this way has even much more value. OpenAI has agreed to this option, even providing fresh ChatGPT-4o mechanics for use inside Apple's systems.

➕ But the agreement means that users can sign up for a paid, extended subscription to ChatGPT Plus to increase the speed and capabilities of the chatbot, which will be sold through an in-app purchase system. And from there, Apple itself will get its share in the form of a 30% commission. This way, both companies can make a little bit of money, and the user can continue to use the free version of ChatGPT.
