💸 Apple to pay $250m over delayed Siri AI features

🤔 Apple has agreed to pay $250 million to settle a class-action lawsuit filed by U.S. customers who purchased iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 devices expecting the AI-powered Siri features announced in 2024.

📰 According to Financial Times, plaintiffs claim Apple promoted “vapourware” – technology that did not actually exist at the time and may not become available for years. The lawsuit argues that Apple misled customers by heavily marketing advanced Siri AI capabilities as a major selling point of the new iPhones.

🤝 Apple says it worked together with Google and the GSMA to bring E2EE to RCS — the modern messaging standard replacing traditional SMS.

🔒 Encrypted chats are marked with a lock icon, and encryption is enabled by default. This means messages sent between iPhones and Android devices can no longer be read by Apple, Google, carriers, or third parties during transmission.

🔜 The keynote will begin on June 8 at 10 am PT. It will be streamed online via Apple’s website, the Apple TV app, and Apple’s YouTube channel.

🔨 Platform State of the Union – a special event for developers – will follow at 1 p.m. PT.

• All WWDC26 sessions and presentations will be available online for Apple Developer members from June 8 to June 12.

• Q&A sessions with Apple engineers and designers will take place from June 9–12. They will be available through the Apple Developer Forums and livestreams on the Apple Developer portal.

• Developers will be able to access the full WWDC26 content through the Apple Developer app and website, as well as on YouTube, LinkedIn, WeChat, and bilibili.

🔄 Apple is entering a major restructuring phase

📰 According to Bloomberg, the company is significantly reshaping its internal structure to bring chip development and product creation much closer together. The idea is simple: hardware, software, and products should be built as one unified system – not as separate divisions.

What’s changing:
• Teams working on Apple Silicon will now be more deeply integrated with product development groups.
• Leadership of product design is shifting to Shelly Goldberg and Dave Pakula, who will now oversee nearly Apple’s entire product lineup.
• Kate Bergeron will focus on device reliability and materials engineering across Apple products.
• Once John Ternus becomes CEO on September 1, leaders of Apple’s Home, Audio, and even robotics projects will report directly to Johny Srouji.

🤖 The most interesting part: Apple clearly seems to be preparing for its next era. If the company was previously centered around the iPhone and ecosystem expansion, this now looks like preparation for the next major cycle: AI + custom silicon + smart home devices + robotics.

Looks like that “smart Siri” from Apple’s ads might finally become something real – not just a futuristic concept.
