Market Closing
The FBM KLCI closed at 1,661.83 (+5.00 pts, +0.30%), ending higher after consolidating for most of the session, as early gains faded amid broad-based weakness across regional markets. However, most Bursa sector indices closed lower, led by the TECHNOLOGY sector. Asia Pacific markets mostly ended lower, with South Koreaβs KOSPI leading the losses, plunging 7.9% amid a selloff in U.S. chip stocks after Meta Platformsβ plan to sell AI computing power raised concerns over potential overcapacity. European markets opened higher, while U.S. futures turned mixed after opening in positive territory ahead of the U.S. June nonfarm payrolls report and a shortened trading week due to Fridayβs Independence Day holiday. Gold prices rose 1.1% to US$4,074/ounce, supported by a weaker USD following a less-hawkish speech by Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, which eased expectations for further rate hikes this year to curb inflation. Meanwhile, oil prices extended their decline to US$71/bbl after U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters that U.S.-Iran indirect negotiations in Doha were progressing well, while shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz continued to recover gradually.
