The FBM KLCI closed at 1,710.39 (-4.94 pts, -0.29%), snapping its four-day winning streak to end modestly lower as the key index succumbed with profit taking despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to extend a soon-to-expire ceasefire with Iran as uncertainties remain high given that the Strait of Hormuz remain closed. Bursa sector indices ended mixed with the ENERGY sector outperforming. Asia Pacific markets also delivered mixed performance with Japan’s Nikkei edging to a record high after exports rose for a seventh straight month in March, but Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 1.2% as technology stocks came under pressure following overnight weakness on Wall Street. European markets opened on a subdued note after UK March inflation came in higher Y-o-Y, driven by elevated fuel costs amid the ongoing Middle East conflict, while U.S. futures opened in the green ahead of upcoming tech earnings releases. Meanwhile, oil prices rebounded to near US$100/bbl as shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz persisted, keeping prices elevated above pre-war levels. CPO futures also extended gains to RM4,635/tonne, supported by firmer soybean oil prices.
