🌎🎓 We are happy that more and more international students take interest in MEPhI!

Today, we would like to post answers to the most frequently asked questions. If you have a different question, don’t hesitate to write it in the comment section below. We will include it in the next posts.

1️⃣Do you offer Bachelor’s programs in English?
No, we don’t. We only offer English programs at Master’s and PhD levels

2️⃣I don’t know Russian, but I want to study at MEPhI as a Bachelor. What should I do?
You can apply for our Preparatory Faculty. It’s a one-year foundation-level program that focuses on teaching you General Russian as well as Russian for Scientific Purposes. The cost of the program in 2024 was 215 000 roubles (no waivers). In April 2025, we will open registration for the next academic year. Please contact interadmission@mephi.ru if you have any additional questions.

3️⃣How much is the monthly stipend?
The stipend is given only to budged-funded students. If you are a self-funded student, you are not eligible for it. The average amount is 3600 roubles (around $35). There are also needs-based and merit-based payments.

4️⃣Where will I live?
Every international student is provided with a place in the dormitory. There are monthly charges, but they are very low ($9-12). Based on the availability, you can be offered eitherapartment-based or corridor-based accommodation. The dormitories are within walking distance from the university.

Happy International Day of Diplomats! 🌍

You might ask, what MEPhI has to do with it, but the connection is quite direct. Apart from political diplomacy, there is science diplomacy 🧬

Science diplomacy allows us to collaborate on global challenges like nuclear safety, sustainable energy, and innovative technologies, contributing to both scientific progress and peaceful international relations.

Every October, MEPhI opens its School of Science Diplomacy. The event was aimed at raising participants' awareness of the main areas and tools of science diplomacy, connecting students with industry experts, and practicing creating projects in an international team.

💤Even brilliant minds sometimes have to unwind.

For the Friday post, we decided to tell you about the hobbies of famous physicists. Who knows, maybe you will be the one MEPhI is going to write in the near future!

➡️ Nikola Tesla fed pigeons every day in the park near his lab. Once he even built a device that allowed a bird with a broken wing and leg recover faster!

➡️ Marie Curie was an avid long-distance cyclist. She and her husband Pierre cycled along the French coast during their honeymoon.

➡️ Max Born loved music so much that he listened to it even while working in the lab. Interestingly, his granddaughter Olivia Newton-John became a famous singer.

➡️ Albert Einstein taught himself to play violin. Sometimes he would invite another famous scientist, Max Planck, to accompany him.

➡️ Theoretical physicist Richard Feynman, was a semi-secret artist under the pseudonym "Ofey". His works were shown at exhibitions and received positive reviews.

And what is your hobby? Share in the comments 👇🏻

🎉 Russia's National Unity Day 🎉

Yesterday, November 4th, Russia celebrated National Unity Day (День народного единства) — a significant national holiday dedicated to the unity and strength of the Russian people!

🗓 This day commemorates the events of 1612, when a people’s militia, led by Kuzma Minin and Prince Dmitry Pozharsky, successfully liberated Moscow. Their leadership and the unity of the Russian people paved the way for a new era, restoring independence and integrity to the nation. The monument of Minin and Pozharsky on Red Square is a famous symbol of this historic victory.

🇷🇺 Traditionally, cities across the country hold parades, concerts, and various cultural events to celebrate this spirit of unity. It is a great opportunity to learn more about Russian history, meet new people, and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Have you heard about this holiday before? Maybe, you've attended any celebrations yesterday? Let us know!

🧠⚛️ QUIZ TIME!

Let's try out a new format today? Every Thursday we'll publish a new question. You choose the answer you think is correct and on Friday morning we'll reveal the right one! All questions will be connected with the fields we specialize in.

🧷 Russian physicist Lev Landau, the Nobel Prize winner and the founder of the fundamental classical course on theoretical physics, created many physical theories during his life: the intermediate state of superconductors, superfluidity of liquid helium, quantum liquid, fluctuations of electron plasma, superconductivity...
And also - the theory of happiness, which has nothing to do with physics. According to Landau, every person should and even must be happy.

What 3 components does the theory have?
👩‍🎓 The answer to our quiz!

Most of you answered absolutely correctly: 3 components of happiness according to Landau are work, love and communication with people!

At the same time, love should be given at least 30% of time, but not more than science 😍
