This little one from the Giganturidae family lives at depths of up to 3,000 meters, where eternal night reigns. Its huge, tubular eyes look strictly upward — making it easier to spot the shadow or glowing silhouette of prey overhead.

The telescope fish can swallow prey twice its size: its jaws and stomach are incredibly expandable, which is crucial for survival in food-scarce conditions. And to prevent its dinner from lighting up the entire ocean, its stomach is like a black iron pot that doesn't let light through.
