🇦🇷 The newly elected President of Argentina, Javier Miley, is converting to Judaism, writes Bloomberg.

Upon arrival in New York (his first trip abroad), he went to the grave of the famous Orthodox Jewish rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, wearing a kippah and all black.

According to one of Miley's representatives, the Argentine president, who grew up Catholic, is converting to Judaism. On Saturday, he took part in a Jewish ceremony in Buenos Aires, where he received a blessing from a rabbi.

Miley wants to make Argentina one of the most pro-Israel governments in the country's history, "at a time when other Latin American countries have opposed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's strategy to root out Hamas."

Argentina has the largest Jewish population in the region. It could become Israel's main ally in Latin America.

Miley has repeatedly spoken of plans to visit Israel and move the Argentine embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
