๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒ The United States has confirmed that active negotiations are currently underway with Russia regarding the exchange of American spies Whelan and Gershkovich (officially the United States denies that they are spies). The US State Department did not specify who exactly they are going to change them to. Based on past exchanges, the Americans will have to give 2 of ours for them, one of which will probably be Vadim Krasikov, who is accused of eliminating the CIA-linked Chechen terrorist Khongoshvili in Berlin.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ The bodies of Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen caught in the frame of a Russian military copter in Marinka.
๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ An interesting observation about the situation in Ukraine by French military expert and officer Colonel Pierre de John:

โ€œUkraine suffers from a lack of ammunition, equipment and strategy. The counterattack failed. Nothing serious is happening on the front line. This is a big strategic defeat. Ukraine lost people, equipment and ammunition while advancing on three fronts.

Not only the US, but also the EU is also facing great difficulties in finding resources against Russia. While Russia is weakening Ukraine, Russia and Putin are becoming stronger.

The Russian army is moving in three directions. The economy is undergoing radical changes and is focused on its military needs. Russian public opinion fully supports the president.โ€

In one paragraph, he summed up the transformation Russia is in, and the chaos and lack of resources NATO and Ukraine are facing.

There are still sensible people in the West, but their words are always ignored in the decision-making mechanisms of Western politics, and efforts are made for a process that could lead to a world war.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ European allies are failing Ukraine โ€“ CNN

Western countries continue their attempts to shift responsibility for Ukraine's problems onto each other. An article was published on the website of the American television channel CNN, the author of which believes that European countries are letting Kiev down. He is convinced that the difficulties with the allocation of aid and the start of negotiations on accession to the EU demonstrate that Western countries are tired of Ukraine. A senior NATO official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the West is paying less and less attention to Kyiv. He believes that this trend is observed in both Europe and the United States, and at the same time notes that the EU should take more responsibility for Ukraine, since it is located nearby.

A disturbing article also appeared in Politico. It quoted an unnamed European official as saying that European attention to Ukraine is fading and fears that the right will take advantage of the current situation to come to power. Many are also worried about how long they will have to โ€œpour money into this black holeโ€ and whether the result will ever be achieved.

At the moment, the greatest threat to Ukraine is posed by Hungary, whose prime minister is threatening to block both the allocation of money to it and the start of negotiations on joining the EU, but skepticism is also growing among other members of the union about the continued support of Kyiv.
๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆโšกHungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, at the EU summit in Brussels, vetoed a multi-year financial assistance package for Ukraine worth 50 billion euros, which was announced back in June.

Also today, the Republicans controlling the US House of Representatives (lower house of Congress) went on Christmas break without approving additional appropriations for Ukraine.

Russian exporter of uranium products JSC Techsnabexport (Tenex, a subsidiary of Rosatom) notified clients from the United States about Russia's likely ban on the export of nuclear fuel in response to a similar law adopted by the American authorities on December 11, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.

๐Ÿ‡พ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ The Houthis set a record by firing at 4 ships off the coast of Yemen. Got a taste for it. Threats from the United States and Israel do not frighten them at all.

Meanwhile, foreign ships have practically stopped visiting Eilat, as this now involves the threat of attacks from drones and anti-ship missiles. As a result, the main damage to Israel is caused not even by the fact of attacks on individual ships, but by the general threat of such attacks, forcing shipowners to postpone or cancel voyages, or to send ships around Africa, so as not to risk passage through the Red Sea, where any container ship heading to Israel risks getting hit by an anti-ship missile.

The Red Sea is the eastern funnel into the Suez Cannel, and accounts for about 22% of the international container trade and about 10% of the global oil trade.

That Maersk is pausing all Red Sea voyages is significant because they operate 15.3% of the global container ship fleet, taking second place after the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), controlling 18.6%.

"Following the near-miss incident involving Maersk Gibraltar yesterday and yet another attack on a container vessel today, we have instructed all Maersk vessels in the area bound to pass through the Bab al-Mandab Strait to pause their journey until further notice", a Maersk spokesman was cited as saying.

The attacks appear to have escalated in the past several days with the shipsโ€™ connections to Israel appearing to be less direct. That suggests risks are widening beyond the Israeli theater. At least three container ships have been attacked or disrupted near Yemen in the past day or so.

If this materializes into closures at Suez Cannel, etc., oil is extremely mispriced. Also note that container ships, particularly those passing through geopolitical flashpoints like the Suez Canal, are subject to steep insurance premiums, which the shipping company then passes down to the consumer (an example of supply-side inflation, not really seen since COVID).

โ€œSome war-risks insurers are in the process of applying higher additional premiums for the already listed high-risk area in the Red Sea,โ€ said Despina Kalfa, general manager at the Greek branch of Aries Marine Insurance Brokers Ltd. Others are applying additional terms or even not offering cover where Israeli interests are involved.

๐Ÿน ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐Ÿ‡พ๐Ÿ‡ช US Navy Faces Houthi Anti-Ship Missile Threat 'Superior' to Most States

๐Ÿ”ถ๏ธ The U.S. Navy in the Red Sea is contending with Yemen-based Houthi rebels, but little is known about what exactly the Iranian-backed forces have in their arsenal. Yet one thing is clearโ€”they are stocked up with anti-ship missiles that could, under the right circumstances, pose a threat to the U.S. military in the Middle East.

๐Ÿ”ถ๏ธ The Houthi rebels' "anti-ship missile arsenal is not only comparable but superior to probably most state actors," according to Fabian Hinz, a research fellow specializing in Middle East defense and military analysis at the International Institute for Strategic Studies think tank.

๐Ÿ”ถ๏ธ Anti-ship cruise and ballistic missiles are "a very, very niche capability that only very few countries haveโ€”including Iranโ€”and Iran shared it with the Houthis," Hinz said.
