Dozens of the most populous cities in the United States are slowly sinking due to ongoing groundwater extraction, according to experts. More than 34 million people are known to live in the areas where the most active flooding has been recorded. According to the researchers, at least 20% of urban areas in all the cities they analyzed are already drowning.
The fastest sinking city in the US is Houston. According to scientists, almost half of its territory is sinking at a rate of about 0.2 inches per year (about 2 mm per year), but in some places the rate reaches 2 inches. The list of sinking cities also includes New York, Dallas, Seattle, Los Angeles and others.

German software giant SAP has abandoned its 40 percent quota target and dismantled its diversity and inclusion unit. The Handelsblatt newspaper reports, citing an internal company statement, citing the changing political climate in the United States.
SAP explains the move as "the need to respond to external changes, including current legislative initiatives" – in particular, Donald Trump's executive order banning gender and racial equality programs in US government agencies.
SAP previously planned to double the percentage of gays and lesbians in management roles by 2030, as well as increase the percentage of women in technical positions to 40 percent. T-Mobile US is also mentioned among those who have abandoned similar programs in the US.
