Australia’s environment minister Sussan Ley has classified the koalas of New South Wales, Queensland, and the ACT as an endangered species due to bushfires, disease and urbanization.

Australia has lost about 30% of its koala population in just the last three years, with NSW’s figures the worst at 41%, with over 60,000 koalas killed or injured in the late 2019/early 2020 bushfires alone.

Sicily’s Mount Etna erupted for the first time this year. Spewing ash and and cloud as high as five miles into the sky.

The eruption occurred late Thursday and continued into Friday according to Italy’s Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology.

It’s just one of numerous eruptions and spikes in activity over recent years, however there has been no need for evacuation since 1992.
