Academic Integrity 🎯 Quiz
Test your knowledge and understanding of academic dishonesty by answering the following questions.
You are working on a paper and the majority of the research you’ve done is from the Web. You find a paper that is very similar to the one you are working on. You decide to use a few paragraphs from the internet paper, word for word. You include a reference to the work on your Works Cited page, but no in-text citation in your paper.
A. Technically this is plagiarism but since it is only one page, it is not that big of a deal.
B. This is not academic dishonesty.
C. You are responsible for plagiarism.
D. You included a reference on the Works Cited page, so that’s enough.

A reference list is a complete list of references used in a piece of writing including the author name, date of publication, title and more. An APA reference list must:
➡️ Be on a new page at the end of the document
➡️ Be centred
➡️ Be alphabetically by name of first author (or title if the author isn’t known, in this case a, an and the should be ignored).
🔵 If there are multiple works by the same author these are ordered by date, if the works are in the same year they are ordered alphabetically by the title and are allocated a letter (a,b,c etc) after the date
➡️ Contain full references for all in-text references used

Five Actions You Can Take to Develop ⬆️ Integrity as a Leader
❇️ Be a model for your team. It is critical for you to be consistent and clear about your ethical standards. Strive to provide facts, not smokescreens, speak up even when it may be risky to do so, and challenge any system that encourages or rewards dishonesty and unethical behavior.
❇️ Be a model for ethical behavior. Ensure you are consistent, open, and clear with your ethical standards and expectations. Encourage your team to express concerns about questionable practices and take the time to review any ethical concerns and your team will provide open, candid feedback.
❇️ Don’t be a political animal. Being competent in your job is the most effective method of achieving success. Avoid being political by increasing your own awareness of political behavior. Start by listing the tactics you are aware of and ensure you’re not exhibiting these behaviors. Then ensure you always share recognition, be a team player, acknowledge people for their unique knowledge and talents, and set SMART objectives to help with unbiased measurements of performance.
❇️ Be a risk taker and stand up for what you believe in. There is a direct correlation between risk, success, and excellence. These are key components in maintaining a competitive advantage. When standing up for what you believe in, approach any adversity with a positive attitude and always work to gain support and cooperation from key people in your immediate or broader team. Be sure to encourage others to speak up and voice their viewpoints.
❇️ Be a role model for living your organization’s values. If you demonstrate that you are a proud member of your organization and live its values, and explicitly articulate to your team why you’re proud and why these things are important, they will soon follow. Walk the talk, be an example of what you want your employees to be and ensure your performance reflects the standards you expect from your team.

Leading with Character: Integrity
Definition of Integrity Integrity can be defined as always interacting with others ethically and honorably. People with integrity aspire to the highest ethical standards and expect the same behavior of others. They conduct themselves honorably in any situation…
3 Ways to Grow ⬆️ Your Child’s Integrity
🔹 Articulate family values.
What are your family values? Can your child discuss and defend them? Family values impact healthy child and adolescent development in profound ways. Most families have positive values that are steeped in their cultures or religions. Their values elicit habits of thinking and behaving that honor human strengths, weaknesses, vulnerabilities, and imperfections. Learn why family values should be intentionally articulated and how children learn through a parent’s words and actions.
🔹 Develop a moral vocabulary.
Words like honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage are core to centuries of religious, philosophical, and family beliefs. Use them and others to express and reinforce your family values. Teach children the behaviors that flow from these principles. Use quotes to ignite meaningful dinner conversations and encourage kids to talk about these values. Check out an excellent list of quotes that were compiled by The International Center for Academic Integrity.
🔹 Reward respectful behavior.
When children feel good about doing what’s right, they learn to measure the quality of their lives beyond grades and extra-curricular achievements. Parents who let children know that courage, honesty, and respect for others is more highly valued than quantifiable wealth or intelligence help kids understand the true meaning of being wholly human. When your children show integrity, tell them what you admire about their behavior.

The Necessity of Sales 💰 Integrity and 4 Keys to Achieve It
▪️ Believe in your product or service.
Selling with integrity takes gumption and sincerity, and your ability to muster both probably doesn't come with just any product or service. Be sure to have some emotional weight behind your sales efforts.
Try to only sell products that you believe have legitimate merit. Otherwise, you'll wind up compromising your integrity and making meaningless sales pitches that will wind up burning you out.
▪️ Be respectful and rational when discussing your competition.
You need to have a reasonable picture of your company's brand position and competitive landscape. Understand your competitors' strengths and weaknesses relative to your company. Be able to speak to those features frankly and honestly.
It's tempting to totally downplay the competition's merit and present your product or service as the be-all, end-all option in your space. But there's no integrity in that. Instead, you need to understand what differentiates your offering and be able to articulate how and why it suits your prospect's specific needs.
▪️ Appreciate the fact that your prospect has taken the time to talk with you.
Selling with integrity means staying compassionate throughout the sales process. Remember, the sale is about and for your prospect. They're the ones taking on the most risk and financial commitment in the transaction.
Your sales integrity is often measured by your sincere commitment to the customer. Put their interests first, and make sure any negotiation or back-and-forth is done with patience and in good faith.

Further Tips to Preserve ✅ Integrity
➡️ Learn how to be assertive , so that you can defend an ethical position from an adult point of view, without whining or being aggressive.
➡️ Avoid white lies. They may seem harmless, but tiny lies are still lies. Always tell the truth.
➡️ Learn to take responsibility for your actions. If you make a mistake, own up to it immediately and do whatever it takes to right the situation.
➡️ Keep your word, and don't make promises that you know you can't keep.
➡️ Keep in mind that in times of fear, disaster and chaos, the temptation is even greater to make a wrong choice. Use these opportunities to demonstrate your true character.
➡️ Avoid seeming self-satisfied or priggish when you're acting with integrity: stay humble and down-to-earth, don't look for approval, and, where you sensibly can, try to let people save face.

Essential skills for an excellent career
3 movies 🎥 where the truth set people free
🎦 Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)
We're beginning our list with a James Stewart classic, one that preaches the value of honesty and truth without ever becoming too earnest or sentimental.
In the second of his three movies with director Frank Capra, Stewart plays an idealistic American senator who takes on the might of the establishment. But he doesn't do so with weaponry: rather, he uses words and good, old-fashioned decency to win the day. Given the politics is so often portrayed as venal and corrupt, the optimism of Capra and Stewart's vision is a breath of fresh air.
🎦 Pinocchio (1940)
Disney's classic animated fable is the heart-wrenching story of a wooden puppet who desires to become a real boy. Pinocchio's lies manifest in the form of an elongated nose, but in the end, the character's inherently truthful nature sees him rewarded.
After Pinocchio apparently dies during the climactic battle with the whale known as Monstro, the Blue Fairy gives him what his heart desires. She transforms him into a flesh and blood human, to the delight of his human 'father' Geppetto.
🎦 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)
This adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic book deviated from the novel so much, it left the author enraged. Nevertheless, these changes make it perfect for our Honesty Day list.
The essential set-up is the same: good-natured, poor kid Charlie (Peter Ostrum) wins a golden ticket to tour the chocolate factory of the mysterious Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder). Where the movie deviates, however, is in the subterfuge plot whereby Charlie is encouraged to steal trade secrets on behalf of one of Wonka's rivals.
This didn't happen in the book, and, as it turns out, it was all staged to test Charlie's truthful nature. Ultimately, he passes with flying colours, and inherits the factory from Wonka.

3 Tips 🌟 to Break a Lying Habit
🔹 Ask yourself, ‘What’s the worst that can happen?’
Remember the old adage, “honesty is the best policy”? There’s a reason it’s stuck around. Lying (or omitting the truth) really doesn’t help anyone, including yourself.
If you lie because you think the truth will upset someone or cause harm, ask yourself what the worst outcome would be if you decided to tell the truth. Chances are, it’s not as bad as you think.
🔹 Take it one day at a time
If you’re trying to be more honest, don’t attempt to flip a switch and stop lying entirely from that point forward. Sure, it might sound like a good plan, but it’s not realistic.
Instead, just commit to being more truthful each day. If you slip up or find yourself back in a lie, don’t get discouraged. You can make a different choice tomorrow.
🔹 Avoid trying to justify or validate dishonesty
“We lie because that’s what we were taught to do,” Egel says.
There’s a good chance when you were a kid, one of your parents said something like this: “Even if you don’t like your birthday present from Grandma, tell her it’s just what you wanted so you don’t hurt her feelings.”
Instead of justifying why a lie is necessary to protect someone’s feelings, put that energy toward finding a way to achieve that same goal by telling the truth.

How Cheating 🤔 in College Hurts Students?
Students cheat on coursework in a variety of ways, from classic classroom moves like scribbling hidden notes somewhere to using technology such as smartwatches to seek out information.
Morgan says he's even seen cases where test-takers attempted to use drones or affix exam notes 📖 to their dogs – kind of a reversal of the old "the dog ate my homework" excuse.
But students who get caught cheating on a proctored exam automatically fail the test, Morgan says, which in turn affects their class grade. And if a failed exam causes a student to flunk a class, there may be other consequences beyond disciplinary sanctions.
"If you fail the class, and it's a required ✅ class, a student would have to retake it and pay for those credit hours again," Roberts says. "With finances being one of the major stressors of college students, they don't always have (the money) to be able to retake a class."
Considering that there are thousands of universities in the U.S., there are also thousands of policies governing academic integrity. Individual policies and the subsequent repercussions for those who get caught cheating can vary widely, meaning an individual professor may deal with the action as a class issue or a student may be hauled before a disciplinary committee.
