Pope Francis d+ed From Stroke — Vatican.

The Vatican has confirmed that Pope Francis d+ed from a cerebral stroke that led to a coma and irreversible heart failure.

The 88-year-old pontiff had faced ongoing health challenges in recent years, including a chronic lung condition from his youth and a severe respiratory crisis in February that led to a 38-day hospital stay.

The Vatican also released his final testament, where the late pontiff requested a simple burial “in the ground, without particular ornamentation,” with the single inscription “Franciscus.” He wished to be laid to rest at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome, rather than the traditional St Peter’s Basilica.

An anonymous benefactor will cover the cost of the funeral. His coffin may be moved to St Peter’s Basilica as early as Wednesday to allow public viewing.

The Federal Government has announced the full closure of the Ijora Bridge in Lagos beginning April 27, 2025, to carry out urgent structural repairs.

According to the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the closure is necessary to replace worn-out bearings beneath the bridge deck—components that support the structure and absorb movement.

The deteriorating bearings have led to increasing vibrations, raising safety concerns. Though the bridge is not in immediate danger of collapse, Kesha stressed that the repairs are essential to prevent further damage. About 50 bearings will be replaced in this final phase of a multi-year rehabilitation project—the first major overhaul since the bridge was built.

“This phase will involve lifting the entire deck to replace the faulty bearings. We understand the inconvenience, but this work is crucial for public safety,” she said during an inspection on Monday. The Ijora Bridge is a vital link between the Ijora Causeway and the busy Apapa port area.
