Instagram’s still got the spotlight in Europe! Meta’s new transparency report shows Instagram leading with 281.8M monthly users, while Facebook trails behind at 263.6M across the EU.
Instagram grew over 6% since last year, but Facebook’s numbers barely moved — even dipping in countries like Germany and Greece. Meta also revealed it’s keeping 40,000 moderators in the region, with fewer spam takedowns but more action on bullying and harassment.
Looks like Instagram’s winning the popularity contest while Facebook’s fading with the European crowd.

Denmark is turning up the heat on Instagram and other social apps after finding that most kids under 13 are using social media anyway. The government is pushing a new rule that could ban children under 13 from having accounts at all, and even 13–15 year-olds would only be allowed with parental approval and age verification.
Instagram is one of the main platforms being warned to tighten age checks, or risk major fines if it doesn’t comply. The plan includes verifying identities through Denmark’s national digital ID system to make sure younger kids can’t just fake their age in the app. Basically, Denmark told Instagram: “If kids are in here, you’re responsible for keeping them safe.”

Ever get stuck watching an ad in the middle of a Reel and wish you could skip it? Well, Instagram is now testing skippable ads inside Reels yes, just like YouTube.
A tiny countdown timer pops up, and once it hits zero, you can tap Skip and continue scrolling. But here’s the catch: creators aren’t getting revenue from these ads during the testing phase. So while users get more control, creators get… nothing (for now).
The goal is to help brands reach more viewers without annoying people, but whether this becomes permanent depends on how often people skip vs. watch. Basically, Instagram said: “Okay fine… you can skip. But we’re watching what you do.”

Thousands of users report similar wrongful suspensions, blaming Meta’s AI moderation for mistakes. The affected creators are now calling for better transparency and a more reliable appeals process. Basically… your account could get pulled without warning, and getting it back is a whole ordeal.

Ever wondered how your Insta growth stacks up against the competition?
It’s a handy way to benchmark your performance without leaving the app, though the data’s still pretty basic — no deep engagement or click metrics yet.
Looks like Instagram’s giving marketers a small but solid peek at the other side of the fence.

Instagram users aren’t imagining things — the app really started acting weird after a major Cloudflare outage hit multiple websites worldwide. From feed failures to login issues, reports spiked on Downdetector as people struggled to load content.
Cloudflare’s disruptions created a ripple effect, and Instagram ended up caught in the wave, leaving users refreshing their screens in frustration. Looks like even Instagram isn’t safe when the internet’s backbone sneezes.

Ever wished your Instagram videos looked cinematic? Now they can! Meta has added HDR and Dolby Vision support to Instagram on iOS, making colors pop and contrast sharper for videos shot on compatible iPhones.
This means your clips will now automatically adjust brightness and color depending on the environment, giving a richer viewing experience. Meta collaborated with Dolby to ensure the tech works smoothly behind the scenes.
For now, it’s only on iOS, but Meta plans to expand Dolby Vision support across other apps and platforms soon — so your feed is about to get a major glow-up.

Think the FTC could force Meta to sell Instagram or WhatsApp? Not anymore! A U.S. judge has ruled that Meta does not hold a monopoly in social media, blocking the government’s push to break up the company.
The court noted the rise of rivals like TikTok and YouTube, highlighting that competition is stronger than ever. So Instagram and WhatsApp aren’t going anywhere. This decision is a major win for Meta and a setback for the FTC, showing Big Tech still has room to breathe under U.S. antitrust law.

Worried someone’s stealing your Reels on Instagram or Facebook? Meta has your back! They’ve launched a new tool that alerts creators when their Instagram Reels are being reposted or copied.
When a Reel closely matches yours, you’ll get notified — plus insights on views and whether the other account is monetizing it. You can track, block, or add attribution to make sure everyone knows it’s your original content. You can even create an “allow list” for trusted collaborators so their reposts don’t trigger alerts. For now, it’s mobile-only, but Meta is testing a desktop version too.
Currently, it’s rolling out for creators in Meta’s monetization programs or using Rights Manager — basically, your Instagram Reels just got a personal bodyguard.

Think you can sneak past Meta if you’re under 16? Not anymore! Meta has begun warning Australian users it believes are underage that they have just 14 days to “download or delete” their data from Instagram, Facebook, and Threads. Although Australia’s law banning under-16s from these platforms begins on Dec 10, 2025, Meta will start deactivating accounts from Dec 4.
If someone thinks they’ve been wrongly flagged as under 16, they can appeal with a video selfie age scan or government ID. Meta advises affected users to save their posts, messages, and other data, then they can regain access once they turn 16.

A bold campaign called #IgnoredByInsta aimed to call out Instagram for scams, hacked accounts, and poor user support but the billboards never made it live. Media buyers reportedly pulled the ads because Meta, Instagram’s parent company, is still a major client.
Created by agency Insiders with advocacy group Refundee, the campaign flipped Instagram’s polished image on its head, showing the real struggles of hacked accounts, fake DMs, and emotional distress, things Instagram often ignores.
Even though the billboards were blocked, the move sparked a bigger conversation about corporate influence over advertising and who gets to control public messages. The campaign also launched a petition demanding faster human-led support and clearer reporting tools for Instagram users.
Turns out, silencing the message only made it louder.

A new study shows that although many Instagram users believe they’re addicted to the app, very few actually meet the criteria for addiction. In a sample of 380 U.S. adult Instagram users, 18% said they felt at least somewhat addicted but only 2% actually displayed behaviours consistent with genuine addiction (cravings, withdrawal, or loss of control).
The research suggests what feels like “addiction” may often just be habit. Frequent media references framing heavy social‑media use as “addiction” might influence how users interpret their own behaviour, making them feel less in control than they really are.

Want to make longer, more polished Reels without switching apps? Instagram just updated its Reels camera to let creators record videos up to 20 minutes long, perfect for deeper storytelling and extended content.
Plus, editing just got easier: there’s now an “Undo” button for multi-clip projects, a slider to fine-tune Touch-Up effects, improved green-screen tools, and updated timer/countdown controls.
Even with these upgrades, Instagram still favors Reels under 3 minutes for recommendations — so shorter content may reach more viewers. But now you’ve got the flexibility to go long when it counts!
