Hola Amigos!

The last few weeks Iโ€™ve been spending time in the Caribbean region. First, I came to the great Bitcoin nation of El Salvador. Initially, it was supposed to be a short business trip to organize smooth communication between our LPs and local financial institutions. On top of that, I wanted to check out a few promising investment projects.

But, as things often go, plans changed. Instead of two days, Iโ€™m now on my third week here, all thanks to various bureaucratic procedures and whatnot.

While waiting for everything to get sorted out, I decided to explore what else I could do and figured, why not improve my health with some biohacking? I remembered that in the nearby Bahamas, thereโ€™s a branch of Cellcolabs, a Swedish startup thatโ€™s conducting clinical research on stem cells. I booked a quick call with them, and we agreed I could come ASAP. Luckily, my loved ones were close by in Canada, so I gathered everyone together, and we had a blast there. Of course, I also had an IV stem cell injection - 200 million MSCs in total, to be precise.

Back in El Salvador, I thought my business was finally wrapped up, but no - one more week of waiting! What to do now? Initially, I was hesitant, but boredom (and Bryanโ€™s example) gave me the push I needed. So, I flew to Roatรกn, Honduras, and got minicircle.io โ€™s Follistatin gene therapy. Sounds kind of wild, right? But after COVID vaccines, nothing really fazes me anymore. Also, the island is really niceโ€”Iโ€™m enjoying myself here, working remotely, admiring the beautiful coral reef, eating fresh food, and, well, sunsets are nice. ๐Ÿ™‚

So, now I guess Iโ€™m officially a biohacker! Letโ€™s see how this all works out. Iโ€™ll keep you updated.

Tomorrow Iโ€™m heading back to El Salvador to finally finish everything, and the day after, Iโ€™m hopping on a plane to Singapore for Token2049.

For me, Singapore isnโ€™t just some gleaming, high-tech Disneyland. I actually spent two years there, building my network and gaining valuable experience. This time, Iโ€™ll be there for a week with lots of meetings lined up with founders, and Iโ€™m excited to catch up with some old friends too. Seems like everyoneโ€™s going to be there!

We recently closed the deal with Bracket.fi (a platform for Staked Liquid DeFi), along with a few other projects:

โ€ข Shieldeum.net - a Web3 cybersecurity solution for 440 million crypto users, powered by an AI-driven decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN).

โ€ข Brkt.gg is leading a new wave in prediction markets, focusing on innovation, transparency, and strengthening BRKTโ€™s role in DeFi.

Weโ€™ve also made a few deals that will remain private for now, but Iโ€™ll probably post about them later.

Finally, weโ€™ve partnered with Movement Labs to help Bitlayer become the most popular L2 on Bitcoin.

See you later, guys!

๐Ÿ“ฒ Instagram Adds Broadcast Channel Replies
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”น Instagram has updated its Broadcast Channels feature, allowing some creators to enable replies from subscribers, enabling a new layer of interaction within the channel. While the main feed of the Broadcast Channel will still primarily consist of updates from the channel admin, the new reply option allows subscribers to comment on specific messages, fostering a topical discussion without cluttering the main stream.

๐Ÿ”น This change reflects Instagram's recognition of the increasing engagement happening in direct messages (DMs) rather than in the main feed. By facilitating connections through replies in Broadcast Channels, Instagram aims to keep interactions focused and relevant, allowing fans to discuss specific announcements without needing to move to separate forums.

๐Ÿ”น As user engagement shifts, with about 50% of content in users' main feeds now coming from AI recommendations rather than the accounts they follow, Instagram is adapting its strategy. The platform is blending elements of TikTok's content discovery with its traditional social networking features, emphasizing the importance of maintaining social connections.

๐Ÿ”น To enhance user interaction, Instagram continues to introduce new features like Notes and Story comments while expanding the Discussion feature in Broadcast Channels. This strategy aims to maintain engagement and keep users connected with their networks, balancing high-quality content curation with opportunities for communication within the app.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Meta fed its AI on almost everything youโ€™ve posted publicly since 2007
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”น Meta has confirmed that all public text and photos posted by adult users on Facebook and Instagram since 2007 have been used to train its artificial intelligence models. This revelation came during a local government inquiry into AI adoption, where Meta's global privacy director, Melinda Claybaugh, initially denied the claims but later acknowledged that unless posts were consciously set to private, they could be scraped for AI training purposes.

๐Ÿ”น Meta's privacy center and blog posts indicate that public content from Facebook and Instagram is utilized to train generative AI models, but the company has been vague about the specifics of its data collection practices. While it stated that non-public posts are not used for this purpose, it did not clarify when data scraping began or how extensive it is. Although users can stop future scraping by changing their privacy settings, this does not remove data that has already been collected.

๐Ÿ”น The implications of this data use are concerning, especially for users who posted content when they were minors and may not have understood the potential for their posts to be utilized in this way. Claybaugh asserted that Meta does not scrape data from users under 18, but she confirmed that public photos of children could still be collected. Additionally, there was uncertainty regarding whether accounts created by minors would also be subject to scraping.

๐Ÿ”น In contrast to European users, who can opt out of data scraping due to local privacy regulations, users in Australia and other regions do not currently have this option if they wish to keep their posts public. Claybaugh could not assure that Australian users would receive similar protections in the future. This situation has raised concerns regarding privacy laws and the potential exploitation of children's images on social media platforms, leading to criticism of governmental inaction on privacy issues.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Facebook and Instagram are making AI labels less prominent on edited content
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”น Meta is updating how it labels content on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads that has been edited or manipulated using generative Al. In an updated blog post, Meta announced that its "Al Info" tag will appear within a menu in the top-right corner of images and videos edited with Al - instead of directly beneath the user's name.

๐Ÿ”น Users can click on the menu to check if Al information is available and read what may have been adjusted. Meta previously applied the "Al Info" tag to all Al-related content โ€” whether it was lightly adjusted in a tool like Photoshop that includes Al features or fully Al-generated from a prompt. The company says the changes are being introduced to "better reflect the extent of AI used" across images and videos on the platforms.

๐Ÿ”น This label was introduced in July after Meta's previous "Made with Al" label was criticized by creators and photographers for incorrectly tagging real photos they had taken. "We will still display the 'Al info' label for content we detect was generated by an Al tool and share whether the content is labeled because of industry-shared signals or because someone self-disclosed," Meta said in the update, adding that the changes will start rolling out next week.

๐Ÿ”น The "industry-shared signals" Meta mentions refer to systems like Adobe's C2PA-supported Content Credentials metadata, which can be applied to any content made or edited using its Firefly generative Al tools. Other similar systems exist, such as the SynthID digital watermarks that Google says are applied to content generated by its own Al tools. Meta hasn't disclosed which systems, or how many, it checks for. However, removing tags completely on real images that have been manipulated may also make it harder for users to avoid being misled, especially as generative Al editing tools available on new phones become increasingly convincing.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Meta, Snap, and TikTok partner to stop the spread of suicide and self-harm content
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”น Meta, Snap, and TikTok have founded a new program called Thrive to help stop the spread of graphic content depicting or encouraging self-harm and suicide. Thrive enables participating companies to share "signals" to alert each other of violating content on their platforms.

๐Ÿ”น Thrive is built in conjunction with the Mental Health Coalition, a charitable organization that says it works to remove the stigma around mental health discussions. Meta says it provides the technical infrastructure behind Thrive that enables "signals to be shared securely."

๐Ÿ”น It uses the same cross-platform signal sharing tech used in the Lantern program, which is designed to help fight child abuse online. Participating companies can share hashes that match the violating media to signal it to each other.

๐Ÿ”น Meta says it's already made such content harder to find on its platform but that it's trying to leave room for people to discuss their mental health, suicide, and self-harm stories, as long as they aren't promoting it or providing graphic descriptions. According to Meta's charts, the company takes action on millions of pieces of suicide and self-harm content every quarter. Last quarter, it restored an estimated 25,000 of those posts, most of them after a user appealed.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Meta Expands Instagram Reminder Ads Placed via Its API
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”น This is handy. Meta has announced an update to its Marketing API which will ensure that those creating Instagram Reminder Ads in third-party apps will have all the same functionality available in Meta Ads Manager. Up till now, the API has not enabled all the same features as Ads Manager, which has been a pain point for many marketers.

๐Ÿ”น As explained by Meta:
"After consistently hearing feedback about this lack of parity, we are now supporting additional reminder ad features via the Instagram Marketing API as of August 19, 2024. These features include the ability to reach people on Instagram Reels placement with reminder ads, reminding people over the right time period, and adding events to ads optimizing for thruplay or reach."

๐Ÿ”น So it's not a major change, but it will ensure that people who are running Instagram ads via the API (i.e. third party tools), will be able to create more types of ads and experiences. Reminder Ads can be a valuable re-engagement option, and these new features will ensure that more businesses can make better use of the format.

๐Ÿ”น Theyโ€™re not new features, as such, but the expanded API access will ensure that more brands can access them in more ways. It's a handy update, which could make life a little easier for many social media managers.

๐Ÿ“ฒ You might start seeing Instagram comments on Threads soon
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”บ Instagram might roll out a way to share comments on other Instagram posts to Threads, according to Alessandro Paluzzi, who often reverse engineers Metaโ€™s social media apps to find coming features.

๐Ÿ”บ Paluzzi shared an image showing that when commenting on an Instagram post, there could be a new dropdown menu that lets users choose to share the comment only to Instagram or โ€œalso share on Threads.โ€

๐Ÿ”บ Meta has made a few moves to integrate Threads with its other platforms in the past, such as showing Threads posts on Instagram or Facebook (and, later, letting users opt out of that). The Twitter-like short-posting social network also lacks DMs of its own, but users can still receive or send messages through Instagram.

๐Ÿ”บ The bigger effort, of course, is Meta's slow work integrating Threads with the fediverse. The company's moves to do so include being able to actually see replies from the fediverse under their posts, and, more recently, others' posts.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Instagram is putting every teen into a more private and restrictive new account
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”บ Starting today, Instagram will introduce "Teen Accounts" for new and existing users under the age of 18, impacting how millions of teens engage with the platform. This new account type automatically implements a set of protections, with the default setting making all minor accounts private. Additionally, only users aged 16 and older will have the ability to modify certain settings.

๐Ÿ”บ The Teen Accounts will come with several features aimed at safeguarding young users. For instance, the accounts will restrict direct messaging from strangers and introduce a Sleep Mode that silences notifications from 10 PM to 7 AM. Meta's global head of safety, Antigone Davis, noted that these changes will standardize and simplify existing protections for teens, allowing them to select age-appropriate topics for recommendations on the platform.

๐Ÿ”บ Instagram is also enhancing parental controls, allowing parents to see their child's recent messaging activity and the topics they frequently engage with. While teens over 16 can adjust their settings, younger users will require parental permission to make changes like switching to a public account. The rollout of Teen Accounts will start with new users in the U.S., U.K., Australia, and Canada, followed by existing users within a week, with plans to expand to the European Union later this year.

๐Ÿ”บ Despite these protective measures, concerns persist regarding their effectiveness, particularly the potential for teens to misrepresent their ages. Instagram is implementing new verification methods, including using AI to detect age indicators based on user interactions. Since the release of internal documents by whistleblower Frances Haugen in 2021, lawmakers have intensified scrutiny on social media platforms regarding their impact on youth, leading to proposals for warning labels and new child safety legislation.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Instagram introduces new restrictions for under 18s!
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”น As social media becomes more popular, the age of use decreases, which can lead to security issues. Instagram also announced that it will be introducing new restrictions for users under the age of 18 in order to minimize these security issues. The application called โ€œyouth accountsโ€ will restrict underage usersโ€™ access to content and interaction with users.

๐Ÿ”น According to the statements, the โ€œYouth Accountsโ€ feature, which will be offered in the European Union towards the end of 2024, will also be available in Turkey in January. Instagram, which will automatically include accounts created by users under the age of 18 in the โ€œYouth Accountsโ€ category, will also allow these restrictions to be lifted for users under the age of 16 only on the condition that they are linked to a parental account.

๐Ÿ”น With this implementation, young users will only be able to message people they follow, content on the Reels and Discovery side will be filtered, and sensitive content will be less visible to users in this age group.

๐Ÿ”น Instagram will also issue a time warning for users under the age of 18. In addition, a notification will be sent to exit the app after more than 60 minutes of use, and sleep mode will be activated between 10 pm and 7 am, muting notifications and sending automatic replies to DMs.
Instagram explained Teen Accounts as, โ€œWe understand parentsโ€™ concerns, so weโ€™re redesigning our apps for teens with new Teen Accounts. This new experience is designed to better support parents and give them peace of mind that their teens are safe with the right protections.โ€

๐Ÿ“ฒ Teen Accounts Are Becoming Mandatory on Instagram
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”น Instagram is rolling out โ€œteen accountsโ€ that will allow parents to monitor the accounts of teens under the age of 16. Instagram has been on the platform for years safety of children and youth Meta has been under intense criticism for the way it provides this information. Meta aims to address this criticism with a new account type that will soon be mandatory for all users under the age of 16.

๐Ÿ”น This type of account, called a youth account, is available to parents more control It will also provide stricter privacy settings for teens, and only parents can change these settings. This means teens wonโ€™t be able to change them themselves. Actually Instagramintroduced some features in 2022 to allow parents to control the accounts of young people, but these features only if young people want could be used.

๐Ÿ”น Naturally, the number of people using the feature was quite low. In the new system, parents will be able to see which accounts their children are interacting with and who they are messaging with. Instagram also users who lie about their age when opening an account will detect and close these accounts. Starting next year, accounts that have lied when opening an account will be detected by artificial intelligence and sanctions will be applied to these accounts.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Meta Launches New Developer Hubs To Facilitate External Projects
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”น Now, you'll be able to access three developer centers:

1๏ธโƒฃMeta Horizon - For those building for Meta Quest and Meta Horizon OS.

2๏ธโƒฃSocial technologies - Incorporating Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Whatsapp and Threads.

3๏ธโƒฃAl - Insights into Meta's evolving Al platforms, and how external developers can utilize Meta's Al tools.

๐Ÿ”น As per Meta:
"Our goal with the new Meta for Developer marketing hub and revamped developer centers is to help developers build successfully for their future and grow their business globally with Meta by leveraging our industry-leading and open technologies, and a vast ecosystem of tools and tailored solutions."

๐Ÿ”น So, essentially, as Meta continues to develop its next-level platforms, each will now have its own focus, so that developers can better understand how they can access and utilize Meta's systems. Which, for general users, won't be a big deal, but for developers is an important change. Meta's VR and AR experiences are evolving, and it's continuing to build its Al infrastructure, which it's open sourcing as much as it can.

๐Ÿ”น As such, having a dedicated space that outlines each of these aspects will make it easier for developers to link into the right areas, and incorporate Meta's tools into their projects. Which is also key for Meta's future dominance.

๐Ÿ”น The more Meta's systems are used, the more critical Meta itself becomes, and as VR, in particular, comes more into frame, you're going to see why enabling external developers to build on its foundations is key for its development. Again, it's a more technical update, but it's an important step in Meta's broader evolution.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Meta Provides a Comprehensive Overview of Its Social Impact Efforts
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”น Meta has released its latest "Responsible Business Practices Report," which covers a wide range of topics, including the development of artificial intelligence (AI), the metaverse, environmental impact, supplier diversity, connectivity, and advancements in teen protection. The report, spanning 144 pages, primarily focuses on AI and Meta's initiatives to ensure broad access to AI tools, emphasizing the importance of democratizing AI to prevent a growing divide between regions with different levels of access to technological advancements.

๐Ÿ”น The company is actively integrating generative AI models across its operations, with an emphasis on open-source approaches to facilitate widespread access. Meta believes that equitable access to AI tools can foster greater economic opportunities in various regions, helping to maximize understanding and connection through immersive experiences. This vision aligns with Meta's broader goal of transitioning from traditional 2D screens to augmented and virtual reality environments as part of building the metaverse.

๐Ÿ”น Additionally, the report highlights Meta's commitment to data privacy and protection, noting an investment of over $5.5 billion since 2019 in privacy programs designed to identify and mitigate risks early. The report also addresses Meta's environmental initiatives and social impact efforts, reflecting on various achievements over the past year. Interestingly, it mentions Meta's support for political candidates whose stances align with its business interests, although CEO Mark Zuckerberg has refrained from publicly endorsing any candidate in the upcoming U.S. Presidential election.

๐Ÿ”น While the report aims to present Meta in a positive light, it also acknowledges potential risks associated with rapid AI development, reminiscent of the challenges faced by social media. The document provides insights into Meta's guiding philosophies, fact-checking processes, efforts to remove offensive content, and human rights focus. Ultimately, it serves as both a reflection of Meta's ambitions and a cautionary note regarding the implications of its technological advancements.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Mark Zuckerberg says thereโ€™s โ€˜no causal connectionโ€™ between social media and teen mental health
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”น Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has pushed back against the notion that social media directly harms teen mental health. In an interview with The Verge, he stated that the majority of high-quality research indicates there is no broad causal connection between social media use and mental health issues among adolescents. This perspective aligns with his earlier testimony before Congress, where he emphasized the lack of evidence linking social media to poor mental health outcomes for teens.

๐Ÿ”น Zuckerberg acknowledged the complexity of proving causal links and noted that research indicates social media can have both positive and negative effects on adolescents. He believes that the way platforms operate reflects the academic findings, suggesting that a broader conversation is needed to address public perceptions. Emphasizing a proactive approach, he argued that providing parents with tools to manage their children's social media usage is essential, even if the platforms themselves are not the root cause of mental health problems.

๐Ÿ”น In response to growing concerns about the impact of social media on youth, Instagram recently announced changes to enhance teen privacy. This includes moving all teen accounts to private settings, restricting direct messages, and implementing a "Sleep Mode" feature to limit notifications during the night. Additionally, Meta has introduced a suite of parental controls for Instagram and Messenger, allowing parents to monitor their children's activities on both platforms.

๐Ÿ”น Amid rising scrutiny from lawmakers and public health officials, particularly following revelations from the Facebook Papers about the negative effects of Instagram on some teens, Zuckerberg reiterated that age verification should be managed by app store owners like Google and Apple, rather than individual platforms. He believes that these companies should take responsibility for implementing such measures, given that age verification already occurs during payment processes on mobile devices. Despite his doubts about the direct links between social media and mental health, he affirmed that Meta will comply with any new government regulations aimed at enhancing child safety.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Metaโ€™s going to put AI-generated images in your Facebook and Instagram feeds
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”น Meta has announced a new feature for Facebook and Instagram that will integrate AI-generated images directly into users' feeds. During the Meta Connect event, the company revealed plans to create content tailored to users' interests and current trends, including images that may incorporate users' own faces. This feature, called "Imagined for You," allows users to share AI-generated images or generate new ones in real-time. Some examples showcase fantastical scenarios, such as users envisioning themselves as video game characters or astronauts, but the prospect of seeing AI-generated versions of one's own face could be unsettling for some.

๐Ÿ”น According to Meta spokesperson Amanda Felix, the platform will only generate images featuring a user's face if they have opted into the "Imagine Yourself" feature, which requires users to upload photos and accept specific terms. Users will also have the option to remove AI-generated images from their feeds if they choose. This approach mirrors practices found in other apps like Snapchat, where users grant permission for their images to be used in personalized ads.

๐Ÿ”น Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg described the integration of AI images as the "next logical jump" for the platforms, suggesting that feeds have evolved from solely displaying content from friends to including AI-generated content tailored to individual interests. The company aims to enhance user engagement by adding this layer of personalized content, although the ultimate success will depend on execution and quality.

๐Ÿ”น Currently, the feature is in the testing phase, and its future rollout remains uncertain in terms of scope and timing. The introduction of AI-generated images into social media feeds raises questions about the platforms' original purpose of connecting users with friends, potentially shifting them further away from that goal as they incorporate more algorithm-driven content.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Instagram Launches Signature Sound of the App
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”น Instagram has created a new "signature sound" for Reels, which will be appended to the end of every Reel that's downloaded from the app. It sounds like you're jutting into a curb on your skateboard in Tony Hawk Pro Skater, or you've clicked the mouse one too many times on an error message. But this, according to IG, captures the essence of Instagram, in one simple audio hit.

๐Ÿ”น What's a "signature sound" you ask? Well, it's not really anything, while it's also whatever you want it to be. It doesn't do anything or mean anything, as such, but it adds a branding element to IG content, which, ideally, becomes recognizable as the sound of the app. And again, the above is what IG's going with. So why this sound specifically?

๐Ÿ”น Instagram says that this is part of its new "sonic identity": "From mild to wild, our Creative Audio and Brand teams designed, iterated and tested a variety of different sounds to land the right vibe: a simple and iconic sound that's designed to fit with every Reel." Apparently, the IG team went through many tests of different sounds and assigned emotional value to them.

๐Ÿ”น "We brought a vibe where we intentionally wanted it to be punctuated, but imperfect. A metaphor for everyday creativity that doesn't have to be perfect to be shared." "Brought a vibe", as a professional statement, immediately puts your credibility in jeopardy, but for some reason, this audio represents an amalgamation of Reels sounds and feelings. So when you download a Reel and you hear it, this is what it is. It's not as cool as the TikTok bass drop then uplift, but it'll certainly grab attention. I mean, mostly because you'll think your phone has freaked out, but attention nonetheless.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Metaโ€™s AI Bots Run Counter to the Value of Social Media
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”น The recent enthusiasm surrounding AI in social media seems to be faltering as companies struggle to find genuinely valuable applications. Meta's experiments with celebrity-styled AI chatbots, designed to mimic famous personalities, have not resonated with users, leading to the shutdown of the initial text-based project. The allure of interacting with a chatbot impersonating a celebrity quickly diminishes, as users realize they are merely engaging with a programmed response system rather than a real person. This lack of real human interaction raises questions about the effectiveness and appeal of such technologies.

๐Ÿ”น Moreover, these AI interactions do not foster genuine social connections, which are fundamental to the essence of social media. The concept of social media is rooted in human interaction, yet these AI systems invite engagement with a non-human entity, potentially leading to unhealthy relationships with technology. Meta's plans to develop video versions of AI characters, allowing users to "chat" with digital renditions of celebrities, further blur the line between reality and artificial engagement, resembling a video game rather than a social platform.

๐Ÿ”น Traditionally, social media has enabled users to connect with real people, including celebrities, in ways that were previously impossible. This authentic connection has driven fan engagement and audience building. However, the introduction of AI-generated personas risks eroding this experience. Users might find it challenging to distinguish between genuine interactions with celebrities and those with AI bots, diminishing the value of social media as a platform for authentic engagement.

๐Ÿ”น While there is some demand for AI-generated avatars, particularly in live shopping scenarios in China, this trend has not gained traction in Western markets. Meta appears to be experimenting with various AI ideas to see what resonates, yet shifting away from the social aspects that define its products may not be a sustainable strategy. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has indicated that AI will increasingly influence the content users encounter, but whether this will enhance engagement or create a less meaningful social media environment remains uncertain. The prospect of forming virtual relationships with AI raises concerns about the nature of engagement and connection in the digital age.

๐Ÿ“ฒ The feature that has been requested for years for Instagram: โ€œYou have to wait a long time!โ€
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”น It seems that the โ€˜see only followed peopleโ€™ feature, which Instagram users have been requesting for a long time, will not be implemented anytime soon. Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, clarified this issue in the question-answer session he held last week and upset the user

๐Ÿ”น Mosseri explained that the company tested this feature many times, but the results were not as expected. โ€œWith each trial, a small group was happy, while the majority started using Instagram less and less over time,โ€ he said. Mosseri claimed that users became more dissatisfied with the Instagram experience after this feature was added.

๐Ÿ”น Instagramโ€™s current algorithm provides users with 50 percent of the content they see through artificial intelligence-based recommendations. This approach was adopted inspired by the success of TikTokโ€ฆ TikTok analyzes user behavior and highlights the most interesting content, and this strategy allows users to spend more time in the application.

๐Ÿ”น Although Mosseri accepts the need for users to quickly access the content of their connections, he said that they are not considering any changes for now. CEO of the social media platform,
โ€œWe created a Followed accounts feed, offered the option to defer recommendations for a month, and added the Favorites feature. But I am confident that we can do more in this area and we will continue to investigate.โ€

he said.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Instagramโ€™s โ€˜best practicesโ€™ tell creators how they should post
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”น Instagram is more explicitly telling content creators, businesses, and other users how they should be posting to the platform via a new feature called "best practices."
The best practices hub is available for professional accounts on Instagram and is accessible through the professional dashboard. The feature is marketed as an educational tool to help creators make engaging content, and the hub includes tips for making, sharing, and monetizing their videos and photos.

๐Ÿ”น Some of the tips are fairly generic social media strategies, like "track long-term follower growth" and "consistently post more." Others are more specific and could signal Instagram's corporate priorities: a tip on my account, for example, tells me that Reels that are longer than 90 seconds won't be recommended to new users, thus stifling discovery. This emphasis on truly short shortform content is consistent with what Instagram head Adam Mosseri has said in the past.

๐Ÿ”น On the one hand, it's perhaps helpful for creators to hear directly from platforms about how they should engage to maximize reach - content creators have lived through more than a decade of trying to crack the code for engagement and outsmart social media algorithms. But it also feels like more access to tips or recommendations creates a carrot-and-stick situation, where creators feel increased pressure to post exactly how a platform wants them to or risk having their content not be seen by audiences.

๐Ÿ”น It's also not exactly a secret that Instagram wants people posting more shortform videos as it continues to compete with TikTok. This summer, Instagram told creators that "views" are now the main metric across the platform, saying it was one of the most important signals for creators to understand how well their content is performing. Another key number that feeds into ranking: how often audiences send your content to someone else. "Don't force it," Mosseri warns creators trying to make grabby, shareable content. Just something to keep in mind.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Instagram Chief Says โ€˜Followingโ€™ Feed Option Wonโ€™t Work
#News #Insta

ใ€ฐ Instagram and Facebook users hoping for a "following only" feed that displays posts solely from accounts they follow will likely be disappointed, as Meta's leadership has indicated that such a feature is not on the horizon. In a recent Q&A session, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri explained that although they have tested this option, the results showed a decline in user engagement and satisfaction. Users in the "following only" setting reported feeling less happy with the app over time, leading to decreased activity and interactions with friends.

ใ€ฐ Mosseri noted that the data suggests users engage with Instagram less when they have access only to the content from their chosen accounts. Instead, about 50% of the content users now see comes from algorithmic recommendations, which enhance overall user experience and encourage longer app usage. While some users may find it frustrating to see posts from accounts they do not follow, the metrics indicate that this approach benefits Instagram by keeping users more engaged.

ใ€ฐ The shift towards algorithm-driven feeds is influenced by platforms like TikTok, which prioritize entertaining content over user-followed accounts. TikTokโ€™s success has prompted Meta and other social media platforms to adopt similar strategies, maximizing user time spent on their apps and promoting content based on viewing habits rather than social connections. This change reflects a fundamental shift in how content is curated and displayed, moving away from traditional social graphs.

ใ€ฐ While Instagram is still exploring ways to cater to users who prefer to see content from their connections, such as introducing features like "Favorites" and allowing users to "Snooze" recommendations, Mosseri acknowledged the challenge. Given the financial incentives for social apps to keep users engaged longerโ€”allowing for more advertising opportunitiesโ€”it seems unlikely that a strict following-only feed will become a reality anytime soon. The current trajectory favors monetization over a return to more traditional social media experiences.

๐Ÿ“ฒ A revolutionary innovation is at the door for Instagram: Here are the details!
#News #Insta

๐Ÿ”น Meta is trying to deliver more AI-generated images and content to Facebook and Instagram usersโ€™ social media feeds. In its statement at Meta Connect, the annual developer conference held last week, the company announced that some users will be able to see their own images created by Meta AI in their Facebook and Instagram feeds.

๐Ÿ”น This step is seen as an important opportunity to test how open users are to content created by artificial intelligence. How might usersโ€™ exposure to content that is not created by themselves, but that includes their faces, affect their social media usage habits? This move by Meta gives the first clues about what role artificial intelligence may play in social media platforms in the future.

๐Ÿ”น This expansion builds on the โ€˜Imagine Meโ€™ feature that was released in beta in July. The feature allowed users to take AI-generated selfies in direct messages with Meta AI or in their feed, stories, and profile pictures. However, Meta states that new artificial intelligence content can only be created based on usersโ€™ interests or current trends. In some cases, these contents will be created using images uploaded by users.

๐Ÿ”น Meta spokesperson, โ€œThis feature will only be available to users who sign up for the Imagine Me feature and add photos for the feature. โ€œThe content will be shown only to the users themselves and they will be able to share it with their friends if they wish.โ€ he said. If users do not want to see these images, they can block similar posts with the โ€˜Hideโ€™ option by clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner of the posts.
