🤳 Instagram design is changing radically! This is what it will look like
#News #Insta

🔹 We are saying goodbye to the Instagram profile view we are used to. The company is preparing to make a radical change to the platform. The photos and videos in the square profile grid are being replaced by vertical rectangular photos and videos. This change is currently in the testing phase and some users have already started to experience the new format. However, this innovation did not please everyone.

🔹 Adam Mosseri, the head of the Instagram platform, explained the reason for the change, saying that the content uploaded to Instagram today most of them are in vertical format According to Mosseri, it is quite challenging to fit 4:3 photos or 9:16 videos into a frame, which is why Instagram give up on squares and stated that it should switch to a rectangular format.

🔹 Squares have been a defining feature of Instagram since its early days. Until 2015, only square photos could be uploaded to the platform, but this restriction was eventually lifted. However, squares still remained the dominant format in the profile grid. Now, rectangular views are set to take over this role in the Instagram app.

🔹 When it was announced that the app would be renewed, this change was criticized by many users. Especially users who designed according to the square format in their profile grids are worried that this new arrangement could make all their efforts in vain. Despite these reactions, Mosseri argues that the transition to a rectangular format is the right decision.

🤳 Instagram May Replace Its Highlights Feature
#News #Insta

🔹 Instagram is planning to relocate its “Highlights” feature. We could soon see these stories move to a brand new tab next to posts. Instagram, which has been facing access restrictions in our country for a while, has been regularly developing features to improve user experience.

🔹 Now, an innovation that will come to the application in the near future has emerged. We know him for his leaks about mobile applications. Alessandro Paluzzi which allows you to add your stories to your profile The location of the “Highlights” feature may change transferred.

🔹 When we look at the shared screenshots, we can see that Instagram is considering taking the stories we call “Highlights” to a different point. Accordingly, the stories now next to the posts we can see. As you know, when you enter your profile, there are three sections: posts, Reels and tagged.

🔹 Here is the change the platform is working on, Highlights will be added here to be in a brand new tab This feature was normally located below the bio section of your profile and at the top of posts. It’s not really clear why the change was made. It’s also debatable whether it’s necessary. Most users are currently quite happy with their featured stories, so we can assume it won’t be well-received.

🤳 Instagram is adding a Myspace-like ‘song on profile’ feature
#News #Insta

🔹 A new feature announced by Instagram today will allow users to add a song on their profile — much like Myspace in the early 2000s. The music added to a user’s profile shows up in the bio area, according to screenshots shared by Instagram. A song will be featured on a profile until the user removes or replaces it. But unlike Myspace, songs won’t autoplay — people viewing a profile with a song can play and pause the track.

🔹 Users can add a song by going to the “edit profile” page, where they’ll be able to search for and select a track from Instagram’s library of licensed music that’s also available for things like Reels or posts. From there, users will be able to select a 30-second-long portion of the song to add.

🔹 Instagram is launching the feature in collaboration with pop star Sabrina Carpenter, whose earworm hit "Espresso" has been inescapable this summer. Beginning today, Carpenter's official Instagram profile will include a teaser of a never-before-heard song, "Taste," ahead of her album release on Friday. Instagram says the profile music feature is the only way to hear the song ahead of the full release.

🔹 Instagram is also adding a few hidden features themed around Carpenter's upcoming album, Short n' Sweet. Using certain keywords like
"Sabrina" or the coffee cup emoji will turn temporary Notes messages light blue, and there's a Carpenter-branded chat theme featuring lipstick kisses.

📲 How Did Instagram Become So Successful?
#News #Insta

🔹 Instagram has experienced incredible growth since its humble beginnings in 2010, becoming an indispensable part of daily life for billions of people. The app was originally conceived as a location-sharing platform similar to Foursquare, but the founders quickly pivoted when they noticed users were far more interested in sharing photos. This insight proved pivotal, as Instagram reached 1 million users in just 3 months, far outpacing early growth of rivals like Facebook and Twitter.

🔹 The acquisition by Facebook in 2012 for $1 billion was a watershed moment, allowing Instagram to rapidly expand its feature set. Key innovations like video sharing, Instagram Stories, and most recently Reels have helped Instagram stay ahead of emerging competitors like Snapchat and TikTok. These new features have continuously given users fresh reasons to engage with the platform, driving its active user base to over 250 million.

🔹 Instagram's success is largely attributed to its ability to quickly identify and adapt to new trends in social media. Whether it was the popularity of photo sharing, ephemeral stories, or short-form video, Instagram has consistently rolled out features that align with user behavior. This responsiveness, coupled with Facebook's resources and scale, has allowed Instagram to maintain its position as one of the world's most dominant social networks.

🔹 Looking ahead, Instagram will continue innovating to surprise and retain its massive user base. As new social media models emerge, Instagram has demonstrated a knack for identifying and co-opting the aspects that resonate most with users, ensuring it remains a central part of daily digital life for years to come.

📲 Instagram Chief Shares Tips on How to Improve Content Performance
#News #Insta

🔹 Looking for ways to tweak your Instagram posting approach? This will help. In his weekly Q and A session on IG Stories, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri shared some quick tips to help improve your IG content performance. Which, to be clear, won’t suddenly triple your reach or anything crazy like that, but these notes could help to drive some additional eyeballs to your content, and boost your performance charts just a bit.

🔹 First off, on re-posting your content in different formats, Mosseri says that reposting your Reels to Stories will expand your reach.

As per Mosseri:

“Posting a Reel to your Stories will help a bit with reach. Usually, for most people, your feed posts get a lot more reach than your Stories, and this is because there’s a ton of Stories inventory, so there’s a lot more competition relative to feed. But it will just generally be additive, so it’s a good practice, as long as it’s not something that annoys your followers.”

🔹 So, straight from the head of IG, reposting your Reels to Stories is good practice. So long as your followers don’t get annoyed by it.
Mosseri has also shared a tip on Collab Posts, which he says see better performance when the account with a bigger following sends the collab request.

“In general, the ranking system [for Collab posts] biases more towards the original collaborator than the person who accepts. It really shouldn’t matter, but right now it matters a bit, so if the original collaborator is the larger account, that will help on the margins.”

🔹 What exactly that means, in terms of real world performance, who knows, but if the larger of the profiles in the collaboration is the originator, that will see your content get more reach.

🔹 Again, these aren’t game-changing strategic insights, but they are interesting refinement notes, which could help you expand your IG reach heading into the holiday shopping push. Some worthy considerations either way.

📲 Instagram adds what photos have always needed: words
#News #Insta

🔹 Instagram will now let you add text to your photos right from the post editor, meaning you won't need to edit your photos in a separate app just to add some text. A bit of text might help your post stand out from the rest of the photos on your feed - or help people see information that might otherwise get lost in your caption.

🔹 From the post editor, you'll also now be able to layer another photo on top of a photo as a sticker. When you tap on that layered photo, you can change its shape from a rectangle to a square, circle, heart, or star, according to Instagram's blog post. This feature seems fun to me - I suspect people will find some clever ways to use this in their photos.

🔹 Reels and stories are getting some text improvements, too. There are new fonts, as well as effects and animations that you can add to text to make them pop. The updates follow a slew of recent Instagram product improvements, including a test of a Snap Map-like feature, a way to add songs to your profile, and the ability to share 20 slides in one Instagram post.

📲 Meta is ending support for custom face filters in its apps
#News #Insta

🔹 Meta is shutting down all third-party face filters and AR effects on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, along with the tools used to create them, on January 14th, 2025. That includes any created by brands and other third parties, the company wrote in a blog post today. Meta's own AR effects will continue to operate, however, the Meta Spark platform is used to create face filters like those you'd see on Snapchat or TikTok that make you look old or reimagine you as a cartoon character, as well as AR games and ads.

🔹 Any videos that have used Spark-based AR effects will stay up on Facebook, Instagram, and in messages sent over Messenger, the company says in its FAQ about the change. Meta introduced its AR tools in 2017, giving it an answer to AR features Snapchat already had. It's been a popular part of the platform, and the change hasn't gone unnoticed by the platform's creators, as TechCrunch notes, pointing to complaints on Facebook's Meta Spark Community.

🔹 Meta writes that it's still committed to AR, through its "long-term investments in new computing platforms that will bring us beyond today's 2D experiences on mobile." Part of that involves "shifting resources" to other experiences, such as glasses. (It's expected to demonstrate its Orion AR glasses prototype at Meta Connect.)

📲 We say goodbye to the fun effects of Instagram and Facebook!
#News #Insta

🔹 Meta has announced that it will be ending support for third-party face effects and augmented reality (AR) effects on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger on January 14, 2025. This decision will apply to all filters created by brands and other third parties, as well as the tools used to create those filters. That means Meta’s own AR effects will continue to work.

🔹 Meta’s Spark platform has been offering tools that allow for facial effects, AR games, and ads that make you look older or turn you into a cartoon character, like the kind you see on Snapchat or TikTok. In its FAQ about this change, Meta noted that videos that use Spark-based AR effects will continue to exist on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.

🔹 Introduced in 2017, Meta’s AR tools were developed as a response to Snapchat’s already existing AR features and have become a popular part of the platform. However, some users in the Meta Spark Community have taken issue with this change.

🔹 Meta has said it will continue its commitment to augmented reality, but will shift its resources to new experiences, particularly platforms that will go beyond mobile devices, such as AR glasses. Meanwhile, the company is expected to introduce the Orion AR glasses prototype at the Meta Connect event.

📲 You’ll soon be able to leave comments on Instagram Stories posts
#News #Insta

🔹Instagram is adding the ability to leave comments on Instagram Stories, the ephemeral posts that many people use even more than traditional posts these days.

🔹Previously, replying to an Instagram Story sent a private message visible only to the person who posted the content. The addition of comments adds a more public way to respond to Stories. The ability to comment in the first place is more limited, though: only people who follow the poster and who the poster follows back will be able to leave a comment.

🔹Just like Stories, the comments are temporary and will last for up to 24 hours; Instagram spokesperson Emily Norfolk says users will have the option to turn comments on or off for any Story they share. It’s not clear whether comments will be archived after a Story post expires, but we’ve asked Instagram for clarification.

🔹Instagram has steadily added new features to surfaces like Reels and Stories that seem to suggest the company views them as key places for user engagement with friends, not just casual content meant to be scrolled through. Earlier this summer the platform added disappearing "notes" (essentially comments) to grid posts and Reels, meant to draw more attention to how your friends are engaging with content. Those disappearing notes expire after three days, and users can choose who's able to see their notes — either mutual follows, or a curated list of close friends. Temporary notes are overlaid on top of the post, making comments from friends more prominent.

🔹Instagram also announced today that some likes on posts will now appear more prominently as floating hearts, similar to how they appear on the disappearing notes.

📲 Instagram Is Removing All Kinds of Face Filters
#News #Insta

🔹 A decision came from Meta that concerns Instagram and Facebook users. The company announced that it has decided to remove face filters and AR effects that can be used in posts.

🔹 Meta, one of the world’s largest social media companies, has made a remarkable decision regarding Instagram and Facebook. According to this decision, third-party face filters and AR effects on Instagram and Facebook will be discontinued along with the tools used to create them. According to Meta’s announcement, the new period will be valid as of January 14, 2025.

🔹 When you want to share on Instagram or Facebook, you are faced with countless pre-made filters and effects. Here is the decision Meta has made to pull the plug on this service. As of next year, users will only be able to use face filters and AR effects created by Meta.

🔹 However, no explanation was given as to why this decision was made. After all, face filters and AR effects provided a very good experience for millions of Instagram users. Only the filters and effects prepared by Meta will reduce the options for users.

📲 Instagram of the former football player who opened kick broadcasts was closed!
#News #Insta

🔹Former football player Batuhan Karadeniz, who has recently made a name for himself with his sports content programs and Kick broadcasts on YouTube, has come to the fore with another incident this time. Karadeniz’s newly opened Instagram account, which was alleged to have been playing illegal bets and advertising them, has been closed.

🔹Everything started with a post by journalist İbrahim Hakoloğlu on X (Twitter). Stating that former football player and commentator Batuhan Karadeniz was broadcasting from illegal betting sites, Haskoloğlu claimed that Karadeniz showed the name of a betting site that is banned in Turkey on the screen.

🔹Karadeniz, known for her broadcasts on Kick, reacted very harshly to these posts, responding with insults and curses on her live broadcast. The journalist, who also shared this response video on her own Instagram account, demanded that the authorities take action regarding the issue.

🔹Although there is an account opened by former football player Karadeniz on Telegram and is still active, the Instagram account that is alleged to be related to illegal betting was removed upon the legal request of ICTA (BTK in Turkey) and it was announced that the account cannot be used in Turkey. Likewise, it seems that the invitation of a Discord account opened for the same reason has also been removed.

📲 Instagram Is Exploring a New Music Sharing Process via Spotify
#News #Insta

🔹 Music has been a key element in TikTok's rise, with music publishers now focusing on the app as a key platform to connect with audiences, with some even changing their artists' song names to better align with TikTok trends. But if TikTok leaves the U.S. next year, as the current sell-off bill implies, music publishers will have to shift their focus, and music fans will also need to go elsewhere to stay up to date with the latest song trends. And Instagram's hoping to be the app that picks up the slack on this front.

🔹 Over the past few months, Instagram has added a range of new music-related features, including its
"Add Yours Music" stickers, music in Notes, song lyrics display in Reels, and most recently, songs on profiles.
And now it's exploring another music element. As you can see in this example, posted by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, Instagram's testing a new integration with Spotify, which would enable IG users to continuously display the track that they're listening to, via their IG Notes indicator. That would act as a form of music promotion, by showcasing what your friends are tuning into at any given time.

🔹 Of course, you would also be able to opt-out of such sharing, if you didn't want people to know that you mostly listen to Billy Joel classics or Chipmunks remixes. But if you chose, you would seemingly be able to constantly highlight the music you're into, by sharing that info in your inbox Notes bubble.

🔹 Which is not a major integration, it's not like a game-changing tool that'll revise your approach in the app. But it's an interesting one, which, again, provides more music options in IG, as it seeks to supplant TikTok as the key music discussion space. And really, it seems like the most obvious alternative in this respect. Snapchat's also popular among young users, but it's not designed for public sharing like TikTok and IG. Which makes Instagram, really, the logical solution, and if TikTok does indeed exit the U.S. market, Instagram, and parent company Meta, may well end up being the major beneficiary.

📲 Instagram is adding new features for DMs
#News #Insta

🔹Instagram is adding a handful of new features to direct messages, including photo editing capabilities and stickers. Users will be able to edit photos by drawing on them or adding stickers before sending them via DM, similar to editing features that already exist for Instagram Stories. The company also said users will be able to make their own custom stickers from existing photos and use them in DMs. Put together, the photo editing tools in chats are expanding to be closer to Stories.

🔹Instagram is also adding new chat themes that change the look and design of DMs, like a fall theme or one promoting a new album by pop star Sabrina Carpenter. Users can also now add a birthday cake icon to Notes, the away status-like blurb that is visible at the top of users' DM inboxes.

🔹Direct messaging has been an area of growth for Instagram, according to company head Adam Mosseri, so it's not surprising that there's an emphasis placed on new tools and features. In fact, messaging is so important that Instagram uses it in part to rank content on the platform: in July, Mosseri said that a key thing Instagram looks at for ranking is how much a post is sent via DMs.

🔹"Think about making content that people would want to send to a friend, to someone that they care about, and it will help your reach over time," he said in a video.

Hola Amigos!

The last few weeks I’ve been spending time in the Caribbean region. First, I came to the great Bitcoin nation of El Salvador. Initially, it was supposed to be a short business trip to organize smooth communication between our LPs and local financial institutions. On top of that, I wanted to check out a few promising investment projects.

But, as things often go, plans changed. Instead of two days, I’m now on my third week here, all thanks to various bureaucratic procedures and whatnot.

While waiting for everything to get sorted out, I decided to explore what else I could do and figured, why not improve my health with some biohacking? I remembered that in the nearby Bahamas, there’s a branch of Cellcolabs, a Swedish startup that’s conducting clinical research on stem cells. I booked a quick call with them, and we agreed I could come ASAP. Luckily, my loved ones were close by in Canada, so I gathered everyone together, and we had a blast there. Of course, I also had an IV stem cell injection - 200 million MSCs in total, to be precise.

Back in El Salvador, I thought my business was finally wrapped up, but no - one more week of waiting! What to do now? Initially, I was hesitant, but boredom (and Bryan’s example) gave me the push I needed. So, I flew to Roatán, Honduras, and got minicircle.io ’s Follistatin gene therapy. Sounds kind of wild, right? But after COVID vaccines, nothing really fazes me anymore. Also, the island is really nice—I’m enjoying myself here, working remotely, admiring the beautiful coral reef, eating fresh food, and, well, sunsets are nice. 🙂

So, now I guess I’m officially a biohacker! Let’s see how this all works out. I’ll keep you updated.

Tomorrow I’m heading back to El Salvador to finally finish everything, and the day after, I’m hopping on a plane to Singapore for Token2049.

For me, Singapore isn’t just some gleaming, high-tech Disneyland. I actually spent two years there, building my network and gaining valuable experience. This time, I’ll be there for a week with lots of meetings lined up with founders, and I’m excited to catch up with some old friends too. Seems like everyone’s going to be there!

We recently closed the deal with Bracket.fi (a platform for Staked Liquid DeFi), along with a few other projects:

Shieldeum.net - a Web3 cybersecurity solution for 440 million crypto users, powered by an AI-driven decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN).

Brkt.gg is leading a new wave in prediction markets, focusing on innovation, transparency, and strengthening BRKT’s role in DeFi.

We’ve also made a few deals that will remain private for now, but I’ll probably post about them later.

Finally, we’ve partnered with Movement Labs to help Bitlayer become the most popular L2 on Bitcoin.

See you later, guys!

📲 Instagram Adds Broadcast Channel Replies
#News #Insta

🔹 Instagram has updated its Broadcast Channels feature, allowing some creators to enable replies from subscribers, enabling a new layer of interaction within the channel. While the main feed of the Broadcast Channel will still primarily consist of updates from the channel admin, the new reply option allows subscribers to comment on specific messages, fostering a topical discussion without cluttering the main stream.

🔹 This change reflects Instagram's recognition of the increasing engagement happening in direct messages (DMs) rather than in the main feed. By facilitating connections through replies in Broadcast Channels, Instagram aims to keep interactions focused and relevant, allowing fans to discuss specific announcements without needing to move to separate forums.

🔹 As user engagement shifts, with about 50% of content in users' main feeds now coming from AI recommendations rather than the accounts they follow, Instagram is adapting its strategy. The platform is blending elements of TikTok's content discovery with its traditional social networking features, emphasizing the importance of maintaining social connections.

🔹 To enhance user interaction, Instagram continues to introduce new features like Notes and Story comments while expanding the Discussion feature in Broadcast Channels. This strategy aims to maintain engagement and keep users connected with their networks, balancing high-quality content curation with opportunities for communication within the app.

📲 Meta fed its AI on almost everything you’ve posted publicly since 2007
#News #Insta

🔹 Meta has confirmed that all public text and photos posted by adult users on Facebook and Instagram since 2007 have been used to train its artificial intelligence models. This revelation came during a local government inquiry into AI adoption, where Meta's global privacy director, Melinda Claybaugh, initially denied the claims but later acknowledged that unless posts were consciously set to private, they could be scraped for AI training purposes.

🔹 Meta's privacy center and blog posts indicate that public content from Facebook and Instagram is utilized to train generative AI models, but the company has been vague about the specifics of its data collection practices. While it stated that non-public posts are not used for this purpose, it did not clarify when data scraping began or how extensive it is. Although users can stop future scraping by changing their privacy settings, this does not remove data that has already been collected.

🔹 The implications of this data use are concerning, especially for users who posted content when they were minors and may not have understood the potential for their posts to be utilized in this way. Claybaugh asserted that Meta does not scrape data from users under 18, but she confirmed that public photos of children could still be collected. Additionally, there was uncertainty regarding whether accounts created by minors would also be subject to scraping.

🔹 In contrast to European users, who can opt out of data scraping due to local privacy regulations, users in Australia and other regions do not currently have this option if they wish to keep their posts public. Claybaugh could not assure that Australian users would receive similar protections in the future. This situation has raised concerns regarding privacy laws and the potential exploitation of children's images on social media platforms, leading to criticism of governmental inaction on privacy issues.

📲 Facebook and Instagram are making AI labels less prominent on edited content
#News #Insta

🔹 Meta is updating how it labels content on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads that has been edited or manipulated using generative Al. In an updated blog post, Meta announced that its "Al Info" tag will appear within a menu in the top-right corner of images and videos edited with Al - instead of directly beneath the user's name.

🔹 Users can click on the menu to check if Al information is available and read what may have been adjusted. Meta previously applied the "Al Info" tag to all Al-related content — whether it was lightly adjusted in a tool like Photoshop that includes Al features or fully Al-generated from a prompt. The company says the changes are being introduced to "better reflect the extent of AI used" across images and videos on the platforms.

🔹 This label was introduced in July after Meta's previous "Made with Al" label was criticized by creators and photographers for incorrectly tagging real photos they had taken. "We will still display the 'Al info' label for content we detect was generated by an Al tool and share whether the content is labeled because of industry-shared signals or because someone self-disclosed," Meta said in the update, adding that the changes will start rolling out next week.

🔹 The "industry-shared signals" Meta mentions refer to systems like Adobe's C2PA-supported Content Credentials metadata, which can be applied to any content made or edited using its Firefly generative Al tools. Other similar systems exist, such as the SynthID digital watermarks that Google says are applied to content generated by its own Al tools. Meta hasn't disclosed which systems, or how many, it checks for. However, removing tags completely on real images that have been manipulated may also make it harder for users to avoid being misled, especially as generative Al editing tools available on new phones become increasingly convincing.

📲 Meta, Snap, and TikTok partner to stop the spread of suicide and self-harm content
#News #Insta

🔹 Meta, Snap, and TikTok have founded a new program called Thrive to help stop the spread of graphic content depicting or encouraging self-harm and suicide. Thrive enables participating companies to share "signals" to alert each other of violating content on their platforms.

🔹 Thrive is built in conjunction with the Mental Health Coalition, a charitable organization that says it works to remove the stigma around mental health discussions. Meta says it provides the technical infrastructure behind Thrive that enables "signals to be shared securely."

🔹 It uses the same cross-platform signal sharing tech used in the Lantern program, which is designed to help fight child abuse online. Participating companies can share hashes that match the violating media to signal it to each other.

🔹 Meta says it's already made such content harder to find on its platform but that it's trying to leave room for people to discuss their mental health, suicide, and self-harm stories, as long as they aren't promoting it or providing graphic descriptions. According to Meta's charts, the company takes action on millions of pieces of suicide and self-harm content every quarter. Last quarter, it restored an estimated 25,000 of those posts, most of them after a user appealed.
